- As online shopping sees its biggest holiday season ever, hackers are sending fake delivery notices impersonating Amazon, UPS and FedEx, with scams up 72% from last year and 440% from October to November. Clicking a fake shipping notification link can launch ransomware or launch a counterfeit branded site to trick users into entering credit card and personal information to “reroute” a package that never existed.

When you didn't use UPS service but receive a message on a UPS package, that must be a fraud
I hope nobody makes business with the BBB or in other words the Better Business Bureau. They are a private organization. They are scammers themselves 🤦♂️

I keep getting mail from "insurance companies", "companies" trying to sell me stuff, "delivery stuff",... all of them are "American" companies, but I don't live in the US or any area where they operate lmao...

I received three different delivery scam emails pertaining to DHL. Each offered a nonworking tracking number. The reason such scams continue is that DHL itself makes it difficult for victims to contact human beings at DHL. Everything is automated, without recourse for victims. The company should get its act together -- provide a special phone number in each major market -- for those receiving questionable notices, rather than apologizing (also impersonally) after the fact to the victims.
I checked the tracking number. Didn't work. Checked Amazon and realized it was a scam. Just as I suspected.
As long as you don't have any order on deck, u know they are fake. I receive many of them and recognize immediately. Not only from delivery companies, many rewards sent to my email as well.
One of my friends received a fake "Best Buy" sweepstake email saying "you won a PS5", which is a very obvious fraud.
I started getting those the moment i subscribed to notifications to ps5 stock on the best buy website.

Here is how to stop them, if your in the US join this -> www.donotcall.gov/ . I usually go on a long rambling story to the scammers or use a russian accent and threaten them and they usually stop.

I highly recommend making an email that is ONLY for resetting passwords on your main email. Otherwise if your email gets hacked you could lose everything.
This is a fair point but something else that people should do and is far simpler is just have a password manager and create strong random passwords for every website. That along with 2FA should make you pretty bullet proof.

Your odds of being able to crack all three are slim to none. Since you would need to have my phone to finalize it all.
@@dennisp8520 well since your phone is also connected to the internet , i dont think it will be hard for a hacker to simply send you a trap email with malware to gain control of it , that is if they ever dedicate their efforts solely on you most of the time hackers either do volume attacks or go after rich folks money
@@arnoldshmitt4969 so even if they have my phone they still don't know my master key so it's still a moot point. Plus that's really not how "hacking" works. Plus in order for the type of attack that your describing to work I would first need to download a piece of malicious software onto my device. Which even if they did have control of my device they would still not know my master key, they would still not know the password which is enycrypted and then they would still not have the means to do the 2FA through the app that I use as that is also protected by yet another password.
We can keep going down the rabbit hole if you so choose but most "hackers" are really just people that take advantage of the biggest sercurity vulnerability of all which is you the human giving up the information needed. I.e phishing attacks. If I the human do not perform bad habits that many others do than it makes me incredible hard to break into. I'm definitely not worth the effort and even if I was I have so many redundancies in place that I feel pretty secure with my most valuable information. I have passwords that are double blind so that even if you did manage to somehow get every password I have saved it doesn't matter because there is still more than needs to be added to make it the whole password.

@@eltopo71 Technically ransomware doesn't require "installation" at all, but you still need to download executable and run it, most likely ignoring several warnings in the process. And this was exactly what this guy did, he didn't "just clicked the link".
PSA: If you receive a suspicious email from a delivery company that you’re not 1000% sure you ordered from - DON’T CLICK THE LINK! Instead click on their email (in the ‘From’ section at the top of the screen) *if the sender’s email is from a ‘gmail.com’ but the name of the sender says Amazon or Walmart or Target, etc.* DO NOT CLICK THE LINK IN THE BODY OF THE EMAIL!! Report it as spam immediately and delete the email! If you really are expecting a package and are concerned about the status, *call the company and tell them your order number and they will verify the status for you, if there is one.* Just a tip 💁🏽♀️

Sometimes it's worth buying online especially if you can buy in bulk and/or regular intervals. Check out Amazon's Subscribe & Save, up to 15% off goods many of which are already cheaper than supermarkets - you can compare prices as the main supermarkets are online so you can check individual items. Also, many online shops have internet-only deals or discounts especially online butchers and fishmongers. For Amazon you can use CamelCamelCamel to set your preferred price and it'll notify you when the price drops to that price or lower.
Old tricks on the book perpetrated by overseas hackers. Here’s how to avoid being exposed , or prevent such situations ...
1. Use a VPN if you are to transact online frequently
2. Clean up up your browsing history on a steady basis.
3. Perform regular clean ups on your hard drive.
4. Use, if at all possible , Linux Based OS.
5. Do not respond unsolicited messages , delete them immediately
6. If you are tracking a shipment , inbound or outbound , go to the official site.
7. Demand a shipping tracking number from your vendor. If the said vendor can’t provide, then go elsewhere.
8. Prefer using a vendor that has a usable calling phone number.
9. Always check the root domain of the incoming e-mail. If it does not match whom you ordered from, it is suspicious.
10. Patronize your local retailers as often as possible.

Tyler Johnson I get strange text and WhatsApp messages to. I delete them. Everyone whom I have a positive direct communication with , I will save. The rest is delete and block.
And btw, I avoid posting on a Facebook, and flat out refuse connections through LinkedIn with strangers.
And to finalize , black market sales of contacts lists, I’ve been solicited to. So assume , despite what companies PR mouths tell you , your contact is being sold to a spammer or telemarketing database supplier.
On unsolicited calls , be rude or play with them if possible. Like James Veetch.
If u get an email, go directly to the vendors site and check order status there. DO NO CLICK LINKS IN EMAIL!
Also, if on a computer you can mouse over the links thus previewing the ACTUAL link, seeing they are not legit. Check the reply addresses as well as almost always something random.

Me too. Very annoying. And you cant really block it cause they just use a million other numbers. I even get text messages from emails. Theres no phone number. So I cant block it. Its crazy.
Me too. In an attempt to prevent their efforts I keep a tight record of my online purchases and try to track packages from the original confirmation email from the sellers. Anything outside that I discard.
My experience with this unregulated company has been a complete nightmare. I lost a very huge amount to them. I had to take actionable steps to initiate a charge back through the help of a forensic expert you can contact her via mail Sunshinewilliams120@gmail.com She was able to recover my funds within a week. Hopefully this information can help any one that has been a victim.

usually they add just a comma or a dot or when it shows on your phone it'll have the exact layout of what you are waiting for. . can't 100% blame people.

Everytime i get an email that contains detail about something of importance, say financial info, i double check to make sure the email is actually legit before replying or opening any links. Then again, majority of the time it stated my login have been compromised but little do they know that i don't type in password no more but login with fingerprints using the apps instead of actually logging in on the website. Recent ones I've been getting so far is from fake pay pal. I can see why some folks would fall for it when it looks exactly like the site but just gotta verify the email being used.

Amazon, UPS, and others always gives you a confirmation number and description of your products the moment you make an order. Save it. Print it or write it down.

There's a 100% way. Don't order on line. It saves your local businesses which leads to people not losing their jobs and there's less room for fraud. I don't even have my blanking on line anymore.
It's been a tough year for everyone but we can't let down when it comes to safety these hackers don't stop and they've become very clever and smart in their approach.

majority of my shipments come through USPS, UPS, FedEx and Amazon directly. All of them have apps for tracking. Thankfully I have not received any phishing scams on my email.
These scams started months ago, a little late to report them now.

@@donew1thita11 Funny thing is, it's so simple to spot those scams : just by looking the sending adress. scammers use crap like "fdtgtfygyjnkykuiogkjbkvhikvik@ghnhvjhkukugkglkuhjk.com. So, as always, its more of a a PEBCAK than anything else.
@@lamikal2515 the email address looked real i went on link looked at address looked almost exactly the same as ups login, when I went to chrome and manually searched ups login . Everything seems legit. None of my stuff has been messed with since that day. Also changed password just to be safe.

I distanced from Social media a few years ago. Very few problems now. BTW: Most important...don't trust anything that arrives in email or social media messages...assume the worse 1st.
Here's an idea. When you know that you haven't ordered anything recently, and you get an email from whomever about a shipment en route to your home/business, delete the email.
That's sort of obvious and it avoids the issue that most are ordering things. So here's an idea, suggest something helpful instead of snippy.

This has been going on for over 10 years. I still get notices from the "Swiss Post" and I have not lived in Switzerland for 7 years! Plus don't click on any link hover over it and see it's real address. Plus look carefully at the email. Normally the email address is bogus and can easly been seen.

There's scams all over the internet. No where is safe. You just have to be smarter.
This is very hard to escape from, and it's also hard to avoid- totally. It could happen to everyone, and that is the main reason for being conscious/paranoid of every action on the internet.

Yes, you don't get ransomware installed by just clicking the link, he must have downloaded and installed program even even after multiple OS warnings.
Unless:
1. They are using zero days - Highly unlikely
2. He is using super outdated system - Highly likely.

@@joanfrederick9176 - also have a Chromebook (which is another flavor of Linux). While it IS possible to get a virus on any Linux system is way less likely to happen. Way fewer viruses for those OS's as well as much better protections for the ROOT.

I would suggest you try that. The easiest OS is Ubuntu.
Yes, you have to do certain things in preparation, but with some help, you can do this. I've done it myself several times.
I would suggest finding a Ubuntu group - say, on facebook, for example. People there will help you with the steps.

If you opened the link the only way to secure ur documents from hackers is to shut down the system and remove the drive

Golden rule of email links from your bank, government correspondence or business. Correspond with them directly at their official sites. Only time I click on a link is after I clicked on an account 2 step authorization bar that then sends me a 5 minute link.
The more you rely on technology the more hacking will increase.

Here's a thought.... never store your personal info in your PC. Have a separate drive or cloud service. This way if you get ransomware just reinstall the image to your computer.

I get emails in my spam constantly like this and have been for 7 months now. I also get phone calls saying my amazon account may have charges I didn't make.. I don't have a Amazon account, you are having issues with your computer..I don't have a computer and tons more 😡 it's ridiculous. So now I assume everything is a scam at this point
I have had a surge of government and fortune 500 companies calling me because their servers were lost to ransomware. It's a real problem even for users who have been trained to spot this. Luckily, larger organizations are more advantageous targets. One moment of sloppiness can ruin you. I have to watch myself too. Be careful everyone.

I was really confused when I got an email about a package being shipped when I knew that I didn't order what they said was being shipped. My first instinct was to check my bank account to be sure I wasn't charged for it. Thankfully I checked with my friends before sending them a response email to tell them that it was not my order.
When the younger generations ask what was so good about the 60's, 70's, 80's & early 90's?.... Well for starters, they didn't have to deal with this kind of Sh*t - CONSTANTLY!!!....
People in impoverished nations can make 1000x more money than their peers if they just make an operation to do this with knowledge, a computer, and internet access. Imagine how attractive that is for them. Its never going to stop. Bleak stuff.

I got this call this morning and was dumb enough to call back then immediately realized it was a scam. It was a amazon call saying they were gonna charge my account $99 for my prime membership which made no sense but I “trust” amazon so I was like hmm okay.. so I called the number..
once I called the number back.. they kept asking me to get on my computer which was weird so I hung up. After that they called back FIVE times. At that moment was when I immediately knew I was almost scammed.
I’m only sharing this because they almost got me..
I know what I ordered and just track it from the email verification I got the same day.

There is some bad advise in the video. While keeping your devices up to date is a good idea, it won't stop bad things from being installed if the user is agreeing to install X thing. This is why phishing emails are so common.
Second, HTTTPS only verifies that the connection between you and the server is secured. It doesn't verify who you are talking to. It is very easy to setup a fake website with a HTTPS.
They didn't once mention using a password manager like LastPass.
The video is ok but it could be better.
@@agisler87 Even that's not completely accurate. HTTPS is a different protocol than HTTP which encrypts the traffic. Sure, it's not a magic bullet, but it should be the bare minimum.
Its hard to use differrent password on every single account. The fingerprint function is really helpful on accessing my bank apps or payment wallet apps. For the rest of apps that is linked to one email, just make sure that that email is not hacked by minimising click baits otherwise it would expose your main account that you use to register your social media apps

Not just online. Lots of scam calls too. All saying that you have a package that was undeliverable or held at depot and require more information. Also calls in different languages too. So far, I got English, Spanish and Chinese. This is getting a little ridiculous. Why is the Federal government moving so slow at the these issues?

No, two important reasons:
A) Unemployed English speaking youth on the rise, and they get hired at very cheap prices.
B) Lack of stringent cyber crime laws. The cops here don't care unless an Indian is scammed.
I am an Indian and it's really disgusting. On an average an Indian gets atleast 2-3 scam calls a week.

The number one way to protect your accounts was mentioned just briefly: two factor authentication. There are different types depending on your account: Google and Microsoft support USB security keys which are cheap and offer 100% protection against phishing. Almost as good is requiring a temporary code generated by an app on your phone: all the major tech companies support this. The least secure but still way better than nothing are codes sent by text message. To protect yourself against malware use a Chromebook or Linux or almost as good is a Mac.

there's a VERY simple solution to these on-line scams. STOP ALL INTERNET COMMERCE! its all a scam being perpetrated by amazon, box makers and the shipping companies!

0:30 i always hear stories from people saying "i clicked on this and my computer is not booting anymore". This is litterally imposibile unless you download an executable file, run it AND give it elevated permissions. A link that runs ransomware and bypasses windows uac would be a huge exploit (a rce exploit). So this guy might be running really outdated software or he's lying.
Or maybe he's running Windows 7, if his computer is old Windows 7 has numerous exploits to achieve elevated permissions without You explicitly giving permission

@@bastoscc You mean, just about any Etsy store, a lot of drop shippers who happen to use Amazon and make their business there, local pet stores using doordash to pick up and deliver pet food for customers, just about any "as seen on tv" product and hoemmade soaps etc that are sold on their website and ship through USPS within the 50 states, are almost always operating out of a home.
This is ridiculous, if you don't have an order coming from that company, don't open the email. Come on people, use your brains. Pay attention.

Someone send a message to my dad and we told him not to click it because me and my sister saw a tiktok talking about this scam plus we haven't order anything

Watch out for so called bank companies saying your account has been compromised. I've been getting these scams lately.

"I clicked on the link" Why?
I am currently the victim of buyer fraud on Amazon. Someone ordered a package from me and then claimed that they never got it. I tracked the package to that person's house and the person is claiming that they never received it. This person also filed a claim and Amazon is not being helpful at all. Amazon is 100% for the buyer. Me, as a seller, now have to do everything I can to try to solve this person.
Apparently, if you go on Amazon and you want to buy something but don't want to pay for it. You can just order it and then wait about a month and then file a claim saying that you never got the package. That is what my Amazon customer has done to me. Amazon is not at all being helpful in the situation.
The stuff is simple just look at the At your browser bar it’s pretty easy to tell if it’s legit or not

@@satyam8875 True my father gets himself in trouble all the time with spam and clicking on stuff his debit card gets compromised at six or seven times a year but that’s his own fault I tried to teach him but he’s stubborn and won’t listen
The average person probably has 50 different accounts they log in and out of every week. Bank accounts, social media, emails, streaming services, bill pay, etc.
Its just not plausible to have a different password for everything. Nobody would ever remember their password
