I agree every Knob Creek single barrel I've had has been fantastic. Even the KC 9 yr 100 proof is good really can't beat it for the price and availability.
@@TheUMIA ah, Wisconsin. Yeah, whenever I do a search for something, I always see cheaper prices at Total Wines up in Wisconsin. I'll have to stock up if I make it up to Door County or the Dells this summer. 😄
Just picked up a Knob Single barrel store pick this weekend! Super excited and now I can open my regular knob creek single barrel and enjoy it even more. I even passed up on a Bookers previously to buy either the ECBP or the Knob and ended up with a Knob SB pick. Thanks for the content as always
I have that same A&O flight set - the rubber grommets that securely hold the glassware in the tray are also labeled A thru D, and double as neck tags for the corresponding bottles in the blind! Friggin' awesome!!
OGD is one of the few whiskeys that I think needs just a bit of water or ice. The water cuts some of those sharp notes and really opens up some nice sweetness.
Love the A&O tasting set! The 1/2 oz pours keep you from getting schlammered when blinding 4 high proof beasts like you did here. And I remain a Booker’s fan at < $90 (what I pay in ME) but the last KC barrel pick I got was great, so I’m more bullish on KC single barrels now after having a few meh ones.
I have multiple KCSP, old grandad 114, and 2021-04 and I came up with the same conclusion. Also i needed the pants advice a few weeks ago. Though I heard something did a quick check but not good enough
I have to do my own blind, but I also have Jim Beam SiB 108 and Little Book to throw in the mix. Also the Bookers I have is the Bardstown batch. This was pretty fun to watch too.
@@inkynate9372 I think it will. Lot of Beam haters out there. It is excellent, but I don't think its quite as good as Bakers but I will love to try the blind and really see.
@@JACs_Stories_and_Whiskey I didn't love Old Tub, but ended up mixing it into a roughly 50:50 blend with Evan Williams bib and liked that a lot. Cheers!
That flight tray is sweet! I've recorded a few videos with the microphone off, it's super frustrating. It's hard to beat the value of a good store pick, especially with KC. Cheers Matt 🇺🇸🥃
Just ordered the flight kit, because I'm buzzed and love you too much. Subscribed and a Patreon and I'd recommend that for everyone. Love the new Nulu pick of yours!
I agree with your final ratings. Knob creek single barrel such a good pour & value! But don’t know where you are getting your Bakers. I find it for $55-$60) all over (multiple states) - even saw a few old Bakers (small batch) still on a few shelves for $49 -2 weeks ago.
Beam is hit or miss for me. I enjoyed Bakers, but I came across a Knob Creek store pick 120 proof that blows it out of the water. It's up there with ECBP.
I will always have a bottle of OGD 114, Bakers and a Knob Creek single barrel in my house. Bookers…..I won’t run out and grab another when I run out of a bottle.
Got a retail chain here that sells the Bakers single barrel for $39.99, don't know why. Most stores around here (central MN) sell it for $59.99. I miss the original 107 small batch version! Great video Matt, cheers!
I pretty much buy any KC product when I find it, outside of the standard 9 year, because it is available everywhere. I did pass up the 12 yr this past weekend in order to get a barrel pick. Not sure which would have been better overall, but there was a $25 difference, so it was a no brainer.
I've not tried Bookers (too pricey) or Baker's (harder to find for me, and also too pricey), but Knob Creek Single Barrell is pretty darn good. However, I'll still grab a bottle of OGD 114 any time I can find it and be super happy with the smorgasbord of flavor for the insanely low price tag. I'd love to try a blind tasting of KCSB and OGD114, to see if my favorite still holds up.
I’ve bought two different bottles of Baker’s Single Barrel and there is something about them that just doesn’t make sense-but in a good way (mostly). I’ve also been not that impressed when I just pour a glass and sip it normally. But after giving each a few months and then blinding them against some of my best whiskies (including Bardstown Discovery Series 4, etc), they’ve won both times. Better nose, better palate… I don’t get it but I ain’t mad about it!
Aged and ore do make good glasses (neat glasses at a good price) . I like Bakers 7 a lot. Knob Creek single barrels are generally good. Although got a Knob Creek Rye store pick once that I really couldn't shine a liking too (wife finished it).
Had opportunities to buy Bookers Tagalong & Noe Strangers batches for $100. Both times, I kept thinking - there's no way it's 2x better than Knob Creek SiB store picks, and refrained. I may never try Bookers, but I will say Knob is delicious. Maybe one day I'll try a KC12. Maybe.
I definitely grab any KC barrel picks I can. I do question how many KC picks I 'need', but they're all delicious. And I'll be hunting ODG114 during my out of state trips this spring/summer. Stupid PA....
I've had/have all four of those (The Booker's I have presently is the "Storyteller" Batch - will that suffice?). Time to grab another Baker's and an OGD 114, and one of those nifty flight kits... and do my own blind flight! 4:53 LMAO! Matt, you are a hoot. I knew that OGD 114 was going to be the last place pour. How did I know? Because I've had the other three, and none of them are "harsh" or "grainy". Baker's is one of my favorites... I can get it here in the Los Angeles area for around $55 - $65. Totally worth it - and then some, IMO. But I agree... Knob Creek is one of the most consistent brands I've ever had. The 9 year, 12 year, and the one SiB I have had thus far have been solid.
Those 7 year single barrel Bakers can be really good or a disappointment. Last year my local bottle shop had a case all from the same barrel; cinnamon, vanilla and (of course) peanut. I bought a bunch of them. This years bottle they had was not so good. Considering the price it was a disappointment.
We’re pretty much a hard pass on OGD and Booker’s at this point, and a soft pass on Baker’s. Knob Creek picks are a HARD buy though. Always. 100% the best buy in bourbon.
Agree 100%. OGD is good to have around for blends to spice up an otherwise flat bourbon. Add some Rare Breed and Russel’s 10 to Booker’s. The added age helps it a lot. And KC 9yr 120 proof is a great bourbon at a fantastic value.
Found a Stagg Jr B17 and a Magnus Cigar Blend B74 today 🤯 Celebrating with a pour of Stagg Jr and watching this video. Matt you freggin’ rock! Great content as always🙏 🙏
Thank Gawd they started doing Knob Creek store picks again. They had a hiatus on the program for a long time. The program is still great. It used to be the best deal in bourbon hands down. You could get 12-15 year bourbon with a 9 year age statement on the label. That isnt the case anymore but the smaller chains around me started carrying store picks again and they have all been great and under $60.
When I retire from chasing highly regarded bourbons, my daily drink will be Knob Creek. The 100 proof small batch is some of the tastiest shit I've ever had. OGD should be priced no more than $4 more than regular ass Jim Beam. I just finished a bottle and I'm underwhelmed.
Called it the moment I saw Knob Creek in the title. ODG still hits half way decent. But the Bookers, closely followed by the Baker's, are overpriced. The KC sits are the crossroads of flavor, cost and availability. Have not regretted any of the bottles purchase, including a single barrel.
You and ethanol sound like you guys go way back in pranks. 😉 When are you going to do another candy tasting video? The Russian candy one was great content!
Here I am…about to drop $80 for Baker’s thinking I found a sweet deal. Watched this video, walked straight outta there with $80 savings in the pocket. Bought a KC12 year for $20 less.

Those delicious guys are like $36 here in California and I think there is only two left in the state
$30 in the Chicago area. Plus around a buck Chicago liquor tax and like 10 or 11% sales tax.
