  • 5-year-old William has a severe form of epilepsy which means he can have silent seizures in his sleep. If he’s not given medication within 15 minutes he has to go to hospital. His parents have to take it in turns watching him all night and are sleep deprived and anxious. Computer scientist Haiyan Zhang is tasked with coming up with a system that allows his parents to monitor him (and get some sleep).

    Im not crying. I had epilepsy when I was 7 until 13 and it suddenly stopped (and stopped taking medication). Took tegretol back in the 80’s. I’m 50 and never had a seizure again.

    My son deals with the same; it’s been months since we’ve slept and I would love to know where or how I can get this machine?

      Try an antihistamine before his bedtime. My wife and I have been trying to legally get cannabis oil for our son to no avail. We were then told by my landlord about a friend with the same problem to look into making sure there was no nasal congestion while he slept. So we gave him an antihistamine before bed...................and yes first deep sleep we've all had in 13 years.

      My 3 year old son is going through this right now too I'm so tired, I wish his childhood wasn't like this his medication makes him almost drunk too I hate it I can see him slowly changing he is more aggressive and his speech is changing and being in and out of hospital with 2 other kids at home too I'm scared to sign him up for nursery cos he is always so tired now and he has had Seizures in the morning where I've had to go into hospital and my 6 year old has had to be very late for school too. I just want a good night sleep I don't want to spend my days in a hospital with my scared baby boy begging me to go home while doctors take full days on tests every time we go in and they put a cannula in his hand every time too for no reason he is suffering alot from all this Its so unfair that people have to go through life suffering like this. Once before I even had rescue medicine I called an ambulance and they said look you where in just last night for Seizures and they sent you home so I don't think you need an ambulance we will get a paramedic to call you back in a minute and talk to you 26 mins later his Seizure finally ended and he passed out the paramedic told us to let him sleep and see if he is himself when he wakes up and said its busy we have alot of emergency I've got to go. He woke up to another seizure we took him to hospital ourselves and they where outraged and said that they should have sent an ambulance as it lasted longer than 5 mins and that we where badly advised. Especially since we didn't have rescue medicine yet they realy should have made it priority to get that to him.

    Very Inspiring... thank you for sharing. Maybe William parents could try or consider the option for cannabis therapy for epilepsy? Looks like is offering positive results in some recent USA child's.

    My son has been diagnosed with a similar sleeping epilepsy known as benign rolandic epilepsy. We haven’t in 3 weeks and doctors are going to put him on medication I just pray it works. He’s had 5 seizures in a matter of 2 and half weeks all sleeping seizures.

    Soooooo it does absolutely nothing to stop the seizure?? Pffft !!

    • @_Kyprioth_
      @_Kyprioth_ 3 роки тому +1

      ‘stopping’ a seizure (stopping is not really the right word) requires medical intervention. As in medication.
      Even then, the medication doesn’t always work and complications of seizures (such as vomiting) are just as dangerous as the seizure itself.
