Is there no auto function on that gearbox? (I suppose there must be) You might as well have a manual gearbox for all that faffing around. Anyway, manual box for me. I've driven well over 1.5 million miles in my time and mostly on big trucks with up to 18 gears so changing gear is so second nature to me it's automatic:-) I have driven auto's and I do like them, but I like the feeling of connection I get with a clutch plus it's an extra brake:-)
Certainly automatic, and, stay off that shifter, put it in D and don't touch it again. It's automatic.I'm eager to test the new 9 automatic gearbox from fiat. Super interesting. Once driven automatic, always automatic. It's just so super relaxing
Hi Alan, I don't know if you realise it or not but your test drive was just so funny. We could see that you were not aware that you were driving an automated manual that can be driven in a fully automatic way or using a manual shift. We can always use a good laugh, however we weren't laughing at you but with you. Thanks for a great video. Downunada - Melbourne Australia
We have a Fiat based Jayco Conquest on order here in Australia and while we have been waiting for delivery I have viewed a video tutorial a few times where the automated/manual transmission is explained. Certainly the model we are getting can be used in automatic mode, or gear changes (clutchless of course) can be done manually if desired. Perhaps your test vehicle was different, but it was very amusing to watch anyhow as there's nothing like a loosely scripted video to bring out the best. However, please let us know if the test vehicle was the same as the one we have on order or perhaps somehow different. Downunda - Melbourne Australia
Alan, I have the same chassis and gearbox. From Fiat: you "may" use it as a semi-auto, and it will alert you, but in full auto it won't. It can be a little confusing for new "automatic" drivers.
Norman, I asked about this before taking it out and the impression I got was that it did not have this function - but as you have the van then you know best! I did go back into first gear when I stopped near the roundabout at the airport which I was not expecting! Maybe there was a linguistic misunderstanding as I was talking German at the time.
Alan, Das ist sehr interessant. Wer hat das Gesagte, Hymer oder Fiat? Yes, I'm guessing it may have been your British accent that threw them off. Love the channel! Keep it up!
Why are you constantly faffing with the gear lever, Alan? I was hoping for a good review of the Fiat robotised gearbox but you were changing the gears manually! Sometimes... ;o) I'd have an auto every time, but a Mercedes or Iveco one rather than a Fiat.
Hi Alan. I would rather have a manual, however my wife wants an automatic. I can assure you that I think that any automatic car stinks. However if she is to drive it an automatic is required. John
Auto every time. A proper auto though not a robotised manual. I have to drive a Peugeot 208 at work with a robotised manual and it is dreadful. My own vehicle is a Merc, now they know how to make an automatic gearbox.
It’s an automatic why are you concerned about changing gear????
Automatic. Great in traffic even better on winding mountain roads.

Was that the German satnav telling you that you were speeding? Did it print you a ticket automatically?
Good one Alejo! Don't give them ideas!
My wife also laughed at your rely. Her next comment was she can drive a standard about 10 feet at a time because that's when it stalls.
Auto gearbox please 👍
automatic motorhome essential !! mines a vintage hymer 1982 and has an auto box.
Automatic every time now. It took me thirty years to convert; now, changing gears is just barbaric.

If it turns out that there was a fully automatic option then I am going to be very embarrassed!

auto with cruise control thanks
It's an automatic. YOU don't change gears, it does it for you.
That is what I thought when I got in it as well.

I would rather not blame anyone Norman - at the end of the day it is my fault!
Auto of course

I will have to do the robotised gearbox another time!
AMT - Automated manual
That is a better term that semi automatic. In German it would translate something like robotic gear change.

So far it is just you and me John.
Manual please - that gearbox is the worst of both worlds.
So far that makes four of us.

Manuaaaal!!!
That makes three of us.
Automatic for me, can't drive manual anymore.
Auto!
It’s a bloody automatic.. stop driving it in manual mode.. omg 😳
Auto
Are you a wealthy man? Most people who love camper vans etc are not.
People who can afford six figure sums for vans must have some cash.
Automatic all the time
