it amazes me how often people say bts can't sing, specifying that jimin can't sing but then i see numerous vocal coaches like you and singers praising all of their vocals
I like how you don't just react and say WOW like others do but you explain things in an understandable way
@@marissa1341, , Hi! You are right! In their mind, they really do not understand why BTS are receiving so much love & support from all around the world, because they are only looking for one particular reason! They also don’t understand this strong bond between BTS & Army.
And for Jimin, I think it is also because of Jimin’s medical condition call “Tonsillar Hypertrophy” which is born with enlarged tonsils that causing him some frequent inflammation of throats & vocal cords, causing weakness of vocal cords, lacking of vocal strengths, causing loosing voice & vocal stability, especially when person is physically tired like during demanding & tired BTS’s concert tours & year end hectic schedules. >. On top of that Jimin’s lack of vocal training prior to BTS debut hasn’t help him ether.(Jimin’s total vocal training before BTS’s debut was less then 3 months & his first ever vocal training song was BTS debut song “No more dream” & until now I still don’t understand why BigHit didn’t give him any vocal training from the beginning of his trainee days.)
Furthermore Jimin is born to be “A Truly Great Dancer” & the dancing is in his heart. So naturally when he performed on BTS stages, his dance has always comes first instinctively then his singing. It is his natural response as a dance focus performer & actually most of BTS fan love that about him.
Also Jimin has a natural beautiful vocal tones with crystal clear sounds of high range vocal(some vocal coaches calls him “a natural countertenor”). So naturally from the beginning, he would mostly sing live those high notes of climax parts from the earlier BTS songs while still performing those hardcore choreography even though he hasn’t had proper vocal training like other BTS members who has received average vocal training of 2-4 years before their debut.
However past 7 years, Jimin has constantly worked hard to train & practice himself tomakeup for his lack of proper vocal training & improve his vocal stability & skills even though his physical difficulties.
On top of that Jimin is the one who has developed different types of vocal sounds & skills the most, when it was required due to the change in BTS songs when they have broadened to various genres & sound throughout the last 7 years & he has always come up with different sounds of beautifully unique vocal tones & colors which is perfectly matched & uplift each different BTS songs to its unique BTS colors. It is just like as a BTS leader RM said “Jimin’s vocal has made BTS songs uniquely BTS.”
These couldn’t be achieved if Jimin has satisfied & settled down as just a BTS’s great main dancer & part of the vocal teams. As all the BTS members said for last 7 years, Jimin has constantly practiced & worked tremendously hard to become a better singer & a better performer & he is still working hard to become a better singer, a better performer & a better musician. Lately I have noticed that consistency of his vocal stability has improved a lot since their long break caused by Covid-19. Even though we all have to go through this difficult times, part of me is glad for him to have bit of times for him to rest & actually receive some proper vocal lessons & get bit of long term professional vocal training. When he said he was currently getting some vocal lessons, he looked so happy. And I am sure together with his beloved BTS members, Jimin will work hard & constantly evolving into a truly amazing all around artist!
Jimin once told on their “Burn the stage” BTS documentary - “I don’t know why our fans & so many people loves us so much. Our Fans said because we work hard but everybody(it means other Kpop idols) work hard. It’s not just us. So why? I don’t know. But one thing I know is that in order for us to repay & return all these great love that we have received from our fans, the ARMYs, we all have to work harder everyday to be better & becomes our best! I think that is the only thing we could do!”

It's because they are jealous of him i have never seen someone who get so much jealousy haters for himself like jimin do but the same time he has extremely loyal fanbase (like i can't believe he got 12M votes in king of kpop place #1)
Jimin is always standout in whtever he does. Btw idc of haters who behind the fandom but who in the fandom they think hating someone will make their faves standout.

No matter how much you hate, you can't hide the talent or charisma.
Not to brag but i'm kinda proud how educated professionals are keep praising him. How professional singers/ vocal coaches/producers (almost all) keep pointing out jimins vocals and praising them. How professional dancers keep praising jimin even tho jimin is not the only main dancer of BTS. How idols keep covering jimin solo songs the most.

I wanna add that Jungkook harmonizes live with Suga and RM alot in many songs (not just J-Hope). I think it shows that even though the rappers aren't necessarily good singers (as in they would never go on a singing talent show), they still understand vocalization really well and Jungkook has excellent rhythm to keep up with the rapline (he actually used to rap in their early songs). I'm glad that they chose to perform "Save Me" and "Spring Day". I think that the desperation in both songs forces them to employ very specific singing and rapping techniques to convey that emotion.

It's because jimin is talented
J-hope can definitely sing well and also RM and Suga can sing, I believe in the last few years they've all been having lessons. I know in this song you said Suga has more of a talking rap sound but you should listen to Seasaw he raps and sings in the song.
Also Jimin does tend to use this tone (what I would call softer and higher tone) a lot but on other songs you'll notice he doesn't, he really does have a great range. Also some of the techniques they use could be because the songs normally have chorography, so they're used to singing them with that in mind. There is something so special about this group I'm so glad you're reacting to them again.

I always put Suga and J-hope on the same scale that you listed between speaking and singing. Surprisingly, I never once thought about putting RM on that scale and It could be, as you noted, that he falls somewhere in the middle. J-hope's background in dance definitely affects the way he raps because you can feel that rhythm and pull that he has ingrained through dancing. He moves with the rhythm. I know ppl are asking for Choreography, but I think you should keep in going with these types of songs. You have more to offer us by listening to just them singing and cutting out the extravagance of them dancing. I would recommend "The Truth Untold", "Magic Shop", "Your Eyes Tell", and "Stay Gold" for them just singing. Lovely reaction as usual! I learned quite a few new terms.
I love everything you just said, but I would like to add that a reaction with choreography can be interesting to get from a vocal coach because he can explain more about how they use their voices when moving and dancing from a different perspective.

Regarding Jin, it's interesting that you said he has almost the "same" voice as V, so when they have to sing the lower notes, it's usually V & Jin (also listen to Awake & Dionysus).
Yet Jin is a tenor also able to hit really high notes (listen to Epiphany & Crystal Snow).
That's why when it comes to the high notes, it mostly falls on Jimin & Jin (Fake Love, Answer: Love Myself, Magic Shop, Stay Gold, 00:00 O'clock).
So what do you think about Jin's register then?
In Dionysus we can hear how Jin starts from a low tone followed by a high tone that makes me particularly fall in love. When he really lowers his tone to the bass, as in the acoustic of No more Dream, OMG....
I notice that most vocal coaches here on youtube likes and praises Jimin's voice a lot..and I'm happy because his vocals is really strong
*@ **6:38* that rasp from *Jungkook* up to this day is the best part in this performance. I've never heard him in a while sing with such rasp in his vocals and I love it!
Most of the west is just finding them now, but for context, they have been officially together as a band for 7 years, and some of the members have been working/living together for close to 10, so, yeah, through a lot of hard work they have learned to really "make it work". lol
Great reaction, even though you don't know them, for me, you got everything 100% right about their voices and styles. Though you might find out later, they are too diverse and talented to really be categorized into one single box. :)
I think the thing that really gets us with Jimin's voice is that his vocal tone itself is interesting and then it becomes more so when he plays with his techniques and the dynamics of how he chooses to sing certain phrases or lines plus it's done so well. You can't help but want to hear more both because of how good it sounds but also because you want to know where he's going to go next.

Fun facts -
Jin only began learning to sing at 20 years old (he focused on studying acting before joining BTS) and has absolutely wowed us with his hard work and beautiful progress. Jungkook wanted to focus on dancing, which he's excellent at, but quickly became the strongest, most stable singer (now lead vocalist). Jhope started off as a vocalist in the group, then shifted to rap, while Suga and RM were already established, popular rappers before being signed by Big Hit. Tae (V) was told early on by a famous gospel singer (sorry can't remember her name) that he had something very special about his voice that grabs people's attention and inspires an emotional reaction (we couldn't agree more). Early on in his career, Jimin felt he was lacking vocally (though we all already thought he was amazing) so he worked day and night to improve his singing. He dreamed of one day being someone whose voice moves people so I know he would be overjoyed to know that an experienced vocal coach loves his voice so much 💜
Jimin’s and V’s voices got me the most when I started to listen to BTS. But you always end up loving all 7 of them 🥰

You're right, we all want to protect Jimin. His voice, much like his whole self, is precious and needs to be protected at all costs. He has self esteem issues at times and he holds himself to such a high standard if you watch videos of him crying after a concert because his voice cracked or something, he is very hard on himself. He is my bias and I think, vocally he is your bias as well haha
I'm not a singer or coach but what I see to Jungkook like what you said that he can command to his voice. I hear a lot of covers of Jungkook with different genre but he made it really amazing. He collab with different singer with different style of their voice but he match his voice unto them. Is that even possible?

When BTS performs
you get their positive energy, they’re genuinely having fun and it just shines. This is what separates them from the rest.💜😊
These guys are so multi-talented and versatile, they sing, they dance, they harmonize, the rappers all can sing (yes, even SUGA - 'SNOOZE'), the singers all can rap, they write, compose and produce their own music and have a stellar work ethic/self-discipline. And just to make them stand out even more, they are kind, humble and care so much for their fans that they suffered from depression during COVID, because they couldn't tour or do live fan meets. I have never seen anyone like this and probably never will in my lifetime.
That 😀 you get when Jimin sings proves that when you Jimin, you can’t Jimout. It’s called the “Jimin Effect” and there is no cure for it.
I really like your analysis from a vocal technique perspective. I like that you highlighted how distinct their voices are but can still match each other and blend. Many people can be have great voices but aural skills and the ability to blend and match tones is the mark of well rounded musician imo
the first rougher ohh sounded like Jungkook and Jimin together but the other raspier parts was Jimin if I'm not misstaken, Jimin often have very raspy growling hyping up sound he does , Jimins voice is so sweet and high and you wouldn¨t expect him to sound so raspy but he's often does such parts in the live performances

You're doing great with names 😊 Jin was actually never a singer before signing to be in BTS, he was hired by bighit originally as a "visual", an attractive person often used in the industry for the sole purpose of looking good. So his entire musical skill has come from training and being in BTS, and you can see his progress if you listen to older stuff vs newer songs like his track moon from mots:7

Jimin is actually a dancer, he trained in contemporary and ballet in a performing arts high school and dance academy - he was the top student...he went to the company never having sung before - he only had a few months to bring something else to the table, he wouldn’t be able to debut with BTS if all he could do was dance...so he started singing. A lot of vocal coaches pick him out for his unique tone and beautiful high notes - he is very humble though, and doesn’t believe he is a good singer, and wants desperately to improve, plus he often thinks he is lacking in dancing too - and you should see him dance, he is art and grace in motion...they all are very humble, they all say they have to work harder and improve themselves...

I just had a fun idea! There’s a new Bangtan Bomb on their side channel, BangtanTV, where the title is something about being musical actors. A few of them mess around a little bit with their voices and it may be interesting/fun to react to (or just watch on your own!) :) Just a thought 💜 (if you do react to it, it may help to pause a bit! I think the Bangtan Bomb videos have ended up in more copyright things recently so pausing would probably help)

Jimin just is so special in all ways. While we hear his vocal & some of his elegant dance performance, then he got that other side of him practiced years of martial arts i.e. kendo and taekwondo. He is just one of a kind

When you heard J-hope rap and he added a little vocal in it, it's because before the band was formed he didn't do rapping he was singing but BIG HIT wanted him to do rapping so I think that's why when he raps you can hear a little vocal too!!!!!!!

Really enjoyed this. Some advice though. Most Army prefer to watch a half hour video altogether, rather than wait for separate parts to upload. Watching in parts means we also miss nuances in reactions (like your reaction to the speaking segments for example).

8:55 RM and Suga took vocal lesson for a while (not long time ago) because they want to be better even if they are rappers :)
I really like hearing your thoughts, explanations and insight so don't worry about pausing or making longer videos, that is one of the main reasons we click on these professional reactions after all. Very impressed that you've pretty much already learnt most of their names and voices in such a short time with so few videos. It took me half a week of intense watching and listening to finally get them right and I would still mess up V and Jin (like you said they can sound very similar to an untrained/unfamiliar ear especially when they're matching their ranges/singing in the same way, and save me was my favorite song from BTS when I first found them).
That "rattle" that you thought was Jungkook when Hope was rapping was actually Jimin. He does that a lot live :) I love your explanations and reactions :)

the versatility among the vocalists and the rappers is so well balanced. it speaks to both how long they've worked together and how hard they've worked to create a sound as a group that simultaneously showcases the intricacies of each members style. just like you said they move around quite a lot in an uptempo song like this this, but it doesn't feel awkward or stressed. I think an element like that makes listening to a group so captivating.

This is one of my absolutely favorite BTS songs. And the MV as well. That crazy dancing between singing is one of my favorite BTS choreo to this day. If you haven't seen the MV and their live performances where they sing this song you won't have the same perception and the same enjoyment of this performance. This is so nostalgic....
You are very accurate when while describing them. Specially pointing out how RM can control his rap rhythm. His song "Joke" is all about him rapping to different sporadic rhythms on a dime. It's really impressive
