"Battotai" - Imperial Japanese March
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 лис 2019
- Although created in the 19th century to serve as a Japanese "Die Wacht am Rhein", Battotai didn't garner much attention until WW2 where it was considered as the military anthem by many soldiers.
My channel is dedicated to anthems, hymns and patriotic songs, here is the link to our discord server: / discord
This song is basically, "Yeah my enemies are strong, but the will of the emperor is stronger."
Imma use that line now haha
That's now my Favorite line to say to my Team
The will broke on Aug. 15, 1945.
@@winchesterchua3311 Aug.6 and Aug.9: *WE A YOKE TO YOU?*

Fun fact:Today, this song is still in use by the Japan Self-Defense Forces and the Japan Imperial Guard Headquarters for their military parade.
In Japan, many of the military songs of the former Imperial Japanese Army and Imperial Japanese navy are still inherited by the Self-Defense Forces.
😮
cause they dont hide there past like certain countrys "cough cough" germany turkey and italy. yes im calling them ou for there bullshit
Not all of those songs were from the IJA/N times, a lot were from the times before. Like this one, it was from the Satsuma Rebellion in 1870s.
This was in the times of Meiji, it's appropriate I think
Sides I think we should stop associating a song with era and associate them based on the level of bangerness
This song wasn't during or inspired by WW2 so I'd say that's really cool

For others who may not know:
This song is written just after the Satsuma rebellion. Right after the beginning of the song, the lyrics praised "the enemy general" whose "bravery is equal to none". This enemy general is Saigo Takamori. He was a samurai general who resented the modernization of the Japanese military which erodes the samurai bushi class. Both the samurai rebels and the imperial army fought for the emperor but the emperor chose to side with the imperial army. After the rebellion was quelled, Saigo Takamori was posthumously pardoned by the emperor for his struggle to uphold Japanese traditions. They chose to die in the battlefield instead of surrendering their swords. For their valour and bravery, they were renowned and respected even by the army that defeated them
I know this from the last samurai movie xD
WTF I swear I wrote "It happened in 1877" and it GOT DELETED!
no Saigo Takamori never resented the modernization actually japan has firearms since 1543 when the portuguese arrived in nagasaki, in fact the first thing that he made when he meet whith the other samurai of the rebellion was give them rifles to fight, the reason that they betrayed the emperor was becaouse he didn´t like to lose the samurai privilege like don´t need to pay taxes and have free rice
ps: sorry for bad english

This song was made to combat the Tokugawa Shogunate, which is why the line "The sword was made obsolete" is there. It referrs to the traditional warfare that Tokugawa used during the Boshin War
This song has nothing to do with the war that toppled the Tokugawa Shoguns. At the time of the Satsuma Rebellion, the last civil war in Japan, the Japanese army consisted mostly of farmers and merchants, and they were afraid of the close-range sword fighting by the enemy, the former samurai class soldiers led by Saigo Takamori, and could not fight. Therefore, Toshiyoshi Kawaji of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department gathered former samurai class personnel and organized the Metropolitan Police Department Battoutai, which used swords in close-range combat, to fight against Saigo's forces. This song was composed to honor the Battoutai.

Underated
True, they should just say for Hideki Tojo instead of the emperor.
This was made way before Hirohito was alive, this was made in the Satsuma rebellion when the Samurai class rebelled against the imperial court. It was a war not one side really wanted against the other, hence the first lines; the samurais were brave and honorable in rebelling, however they will still be enemies of the empire, the imperial court, and the emperor.
@69 420 yup
Thats the funniest part
Everytime i run out of bullets in a plane game this plays in my head
one thing i notice is that the song mentions the enemy general is a hero. implying the Japanese have immense respect for the enemy general or commander, though I'm Shure that's not the full case.
I have heard it was some Samurai general who opposed the westernisation of Japanese Army and Society during Meiji Era which caused the civil war between Samurais and Imperial Japanese Army.
Damn, I thought that Map is the mainlands of Japan, but when I looked at it again, it's the Japanese Empire's largest extent. It's good looking tho.
Sir u were supposed to defeat Japan
@@mayankchandrakar8333 I know, but you can't deny their success as an Asian country.
@@mayankchandrakar8333 No he was supposed to defeat the Axis in Europe einstein.
My Brother!
@@mayankchandrakar8333 That's MacArthur's Job mate
It's actually interesting that the main march of Imperial Japan, is basically acknowledging the bravery and prowess of the enemy.
Are there other military songs applauding foes as warriors? Mostly it is like "my enemies are scums" such as Sacred War. A pretty neat idea so that the soldiers would be braver facing attacks.
When I do a shitty job I begin to hum this song to myself and it keeps me going.
Love Japan

Seems legit
@@angelinobernal6899 Totally legit
Instead of mocking or down playing the enemy The japanese thought of them as fearless warriors who are worthy adversaries.
i love how the japanese respect all to some degree. you can still see this today lol
@@arl4422 truly admirable
@@BADBOY-rq8py i agree
FYI this song is about Satsuma Rebelion. Saigo Takamori as the leader of the rebels was a great hero to the Imperial since he lead the Imperial army in Boshin war. The rebelion itself is about the government's plan to erase Samurai caste.
Even rumors said before commiting Seppuku Saigo had one las bow towards Imperial palace and at the end his rebelion was pardoned and recognized as tragic hero
Well they need the Red army and 2 nukes to Surrender.
Happy birthday Hirohito
This military song was originally composed for the police officers who fought as a death squad during the Civil War in 1877. For this reason, the Japanese police still use this song in their marches today.
Good to know
