    When my son was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy many years ago I really questioned how I was going to deal with it. It was a huge blow and I doubted myself as a father. One day I went to my father to talk about it to him about it. His exact words were " you what your problem is, your not praying hard enough ". I knew there and then I could never reason with him or confide in him.

      @@LIZABETHYEAUX666 if the Bible was true, it actually does lol regret is only possible if you think you made a wrong decision, but he supposedly regretted the flood, changing your position means your previous position, and despite supposedly plainly saying he didn't come to change things, clearly said numerous things that disagree with the gods previous claims.
      There's also that time he lost a wresting match.... How do you do that if you aren't wrong somewhere XD and admitting defeat, as it says he did, would be admission of that error.
      Many books didn't originally paint a supposedly perfect being, or even try. They weren't evet meant to be a cohesive narrative, that's why it's so conflicting.

    ”No land, no law...”, “like 3 000 years ago...”
    Wow. Such ignorance.
    Civilizations in effect around 7 000 years ago - Babylonia, Harrappan, Egypt, China - all had laws, a police enforcement, rulers and bureaucracy.
    This guy has no clue. And it is really sad.

    • @LukeVilent
      @LukeVilent 5 років тому +10

      Sorry, not really.
      Sumerian civilization - eventually influencing and absorbed by Babylon, but speaking a totally different language, appears about 5500-4500 years ago. It is not commonly agreed that Sumerian proto-writing, initially used for goods accounting, was used by people speaking Sumerian, let alone a Semitic language, like the Akkadian spoken in Babylon.
      Egypt - appears even later than Sumerian civilization, with hits of direct influence by Sumerians.
      China - first major dynasty, the Shang, appears 4000 years ago.
      Don't know much about Harappan, but it is in the same time span.
      But "no land, no law before 3000 years ago" - this is just silly. By 3000 years ago, we have plenty written codes of law (including Ur-Nammu, ca. 2000 BC), first known attempt of establishing a state monotheistic religion (by Achenaten influenced by his astronomer uncle, the high priest Aanen), first codified peace treaty (of Kadesh between Ramses II of Egypt and the Hittites), well established calendar system, highly organized societies in America (ancient Mayans); darn we already have several collapsed highly developed civilizations by this time, like Hittite and Cretan.

      I'm currently in process of making a video analysis of this stupid claim about "fair handling of voluntary bonds". Disclaimer - I am a descendant of slaves that were not called slaves, but "serfs" or "bonds", depending on translation, that were bought and sold and force-married up until 1861, and built up some 1/3 of population of Russian empire, peaking >2/3 in its central regions. Whatever you call "obed" - slaves or "voluntary bond" - it doesn't change the fact that the same exodus 21 mentions that can be beaten and tricked into lifelong "voluntary work". Also, the word for buying the "obed" - "qanah" is translated to be exactly buyig, not hiring: it is applied elsewhere in the bible to purchasing land, the burial cave Machpelah, and alas, stone and wood for the temple construction!
      Funny enough, due to Putin's neo-imperial inclination, voices for restoration of the serfdom become loud, and those people claim exactly the same the evangelists claim about the bible - "that it was a caring custody" - despite abundant documents and testimonies show that the treatment was no better than that of black slaves in Americas.

    Thomas Jefferson, one of our founding fathers, wanted to keep religion out of government. He wrote: “All men are created equal; they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights that among these are: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.” Isn’t this a beautiful statement that you will not find in the Judeo-Christian Bible? How does the Bible treat women (like cattle) and how about blacks? By now, you do know that the Bible has nothing to do with God but all to do with Roy More and the Hitler-Pope pact that led to the death of 6 million Jews.
    Science versus Religion:
    1. The worldview guiding the moral and spiritual values of an educated person today is the worldview given to us by science, not religion.
    2. By stripping ecclesiastical (religion)) authority of its credibility on factual matters, cast doubts on its claims to certitude in matters of morality, women, gays, slavery, etc.
    3. The facts of science force us to take responsibility for the welfare of our species, our planets, and ourselves.

      You got that backward. It's to keep government out of religion. And your take on the bible is so wrong I feel bad for you. And due to your lack of biblical knowledge, you look like a fool. I'd recommend not talking to anyone until your intelligent enough to do so. Assuming you are an atheist. I'd be happy to work with you and help in any way to better understand what it is you don't believe in. But it's your faith and your free to believe what you want.

      It's both, that's why people simplify it as separation of church and state. It guarantees that people can observe any religion they want to, but it's also meant to prevent any one religion from gaining too much political power. While he's not the most articulate, he's mostly right about the rest. The bible does treat women like cattle. I don't know about blacks in particular, but the NT describes all non-Hebrews as heathen. If the bible does represent God, I hope he doesn't exist and wouldn't worship him if he does.

    The same people who say that slavery was such a common practice in Biblical times that God had to allow it are the same people that say that slavery in the US was wrong, even though it was an extremely common practice here until it was abolished. You can't say one is okay while condemning the other, simply because it wasn't written in the Bible.

    I used to be so obsessed with learning about Egypt. It was fascinating. I was surprised to learn that there is no history of outside slaves in Egypt, from Egyptians who were obsessed with recording their history. Their slaves were their own because they didn't trust the outsiders, just like their kids came from incest due to them not believing in mixing and keeping their blood "pure". Its been a while since I studied that stuff but I have a feeling no one has discovered any new info on slaves being anything other than poor Egyptians.

    • @MRayner59
      @MRayner59 6 років тому +6

      Not to mention that it can now be stated with a high degree of confidence that everything in the Bible talking about the enslavement of the Israelites in Egypt is pure fiction (much like everything else, of course) as there's no archaeological evidence to corroborate it. In fact, it's now widely accepted that the "slaves" who labored on the pyramids and such were nothing of the sort, but actually just ordinary workers recruited from the local populace.

    • @craigmccullough7333
      @craigmccullough7333 6 років тому +3

      Almost all the "labourers" used on the large scale Egyptian construction projects were Egyptian Agricultural farmers and workers temporarily unemployed because of the annual floods. The skilled workforce were professionals.
      There is no trace at all of a large Hebrew population in either upper or lower Egypt at the time that would be covered by late Genesis or Exodus.

      KandT-Venture I wasn't claiming that there were no slaves (owned or otherwise) in Pharaonic Egypt. I am saying that there was no significant Hebrew population in Egypt at the relevant time and that slaves (Hebrew or otherwise) were used in the large scale construction schemes.
