  • I have quite a few instruments, most of them cheap and not well suited for recording. So, what if I took my cheapest flute and based a song on it?
    It's the most temperamental little piece of plastic I've ever laid my hands on. I'll eventually get my hands on a dizi or two for my far eastern inspired tracks. Experimentation is always fun though, and it was a great learning experience trying to record with something as fiddly as a $5 plastic whistle.
    I hope you like the track, have a fantastic day, and thank you so much for listening!

    This man just casually returns with a masterpiece created by a cheap plastic flute. I’m amazed.

    This is quite the tune! Reminds me of a once dead land being restored by what was stolen from it. And the background goes very well with the song too! Very well done indeed :)

    your talent is always appreciated! you could make music with a trash can lid

    • @Vindsvept
      @Vindsvept  Рік тому

      Thank you! I've tried using my IKEA trash bin lid before, but it doesn't work well for percussion, it has a really pronounced note that is hard to fit into just about anything. I have used spoons, pans and random bits of whatever I can find in lots of songs. I only have one shaker and I bought a bag of pistachios just to build it, and yes, they were delicious, and the shaker is probably on about 30 of my songs :D

    Many years ago, a band of heroes paid the final and ultimate price to stop the cataclysmic serpent. However the aftermath brought about something unexpected: the fracturing, a tragedy where magic became lost and a whisper of a better time, the gods were dead, and planes that were once connected severed apart. But now, magic has begun to return and be reborn into the world once more though hampered but the forces that claimed it's place.

    This just proves you don't need $5000 worth of instruments if you got good mixing and composition

    • @Vindsvept
      @Vindsvept  Рік тому

      That's true, most of the percussion for my folk tunes are kitchen-based. To be frank, though, I'm not very happy with the mix. I just couldn't get it to sound the way I wanted to, but I can't keep poking away at it forever. Just another learning experience that will hopefully make me improve over time :)

    Is there a way to make music without well having an instrument or knowing how to play one? I mean, is there any software that mimics actual sounds from an instrument therefore allowing you to put some stuff together without using a physical instrument?

    • @Vindsvept
      @Vindsvept  11 місяців тому

      To some extent, yes. Here's a pretty simplified explanation of how modern sampling works. Let's say you want a piano sound, someone has to record that piano. They record all 88 keys at least 4 times in 4 velocity layers and map that to a keyboard, you can then play a note, and one of the 4 samples assigned to that key in that velocity is repeated.
      The problem that usually comes about is if you have no knowledge about how a particular musical instrument works, if you play it on a MIDI keyboard it won't sound right. If you play a guitar the same way you'd play a piano, it would just sound ridiculous. That's why I try to record as much as possible myself, it's time-consuming but having a blend is a good compromise for me.

      It's been said before that I have a flute problem and should not be encouraged to even look at new ones. That being said, a new high whistle wouldn't hurt 😅
