Congratulations, you just found the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they searched for a new bassist. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song, “Judgement Day” on December 22. Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed a little more than half of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics and is also getting involved in composing. In mid-2021, Miho left the band she had founded, for personal reasons. They recently announced their new bassist, Fami, who is a young phenom and herself a composer and multi-instrumentalist. Their first song with Fami is “Judgement Day” ua-cam.com/video/m3uGjp-P7DI/v-deo.html The instrumentalists studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance was that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like crazy). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It has been a little over 3 years since I dived into the world of Japanese rock/metal. I started listening to all female bands, all male bands and mixed bands. After three years it is the all female and mixed bands that have risen to the top of my list. My triumvirate at the top are Lovebites, Nemophila and Band-Maid. Band-Maid is an all female rock band that leans into punk. I saw them in Dallas this past October. I will be seeing Nemophila in Dallas in a couple of weeks. Lovebites has not yet been to the US but I hope that changes sometime this year. After you watch the Lovebites music video for Judgement Day there will be plenty of live videos to experience (you will get to see the previous bassist Miho who is metal to the core). Stand And Deliver is a special song because it is the first time Miyako, the long dark haired guitarist, and Asami, the vocalist, have composed a song together. With the departure of Miho, which happened in August, 2021, Asami is now the sole lyricist. Miyako is probably the most impressive of the group - she is a world class guitarist as you witnessed (as is Midori the other guitarist), a world class composer who has been involved in composing nearly half the Lovebites catalog and almost all as a solo composer, and a world class pianist which you will see in some of their live videos. The other Japanese bands just behind my triumvirate are Gacharic Spin (all female), Unlucky Morpheus (mix), Asterism (mix) and Hanabie (you know them). These 7 bands all have distinct sounds but they share one thing in common - amazing talent. Enjoy the ride!
Thanks for that info! It is truly a deep pool of talent to dive into. I've been scouting out some other bands and this sure helps. I rely mainly on fan suggestions because I don't like to preview anything, that way I can bring a true reaction. You have been an amazing help! Cheers!

They went on hiatus in mid-2021 following the departure of their original bassist Miho, who was one of the cofounders of the band. They announced new bassist Fami in October 2022, and this is the first album with her. This is the second music video released from the new album after the title track "Judgement Day," and the fourth overall track that was released (they released two audio-only tracks "The Spirit Lives On" and "Dissonance" prior to the release of the album). This song is atypical of their usual style, which is primarily rooted in 80s style European power metal, though they also have several songs that are thrash, prog, and NWOBHM-inspired classic heavy metal (which this song fits into with its obvious Motorhead influences).
@@jimmysrandom Check out their song "The Crusade." they are worthy to stick with them. you witnessed their musician skills. "supergroup" indeed. live they are even better. and their composition skills are on the same level: in their whole back catalogue of around sixty songs now you won´t find a single bad, stale or mediocre one. your description nailed it: maiden, priest and motorhead were surely influences for this one. but their influences are also early metallica, megadeath, anthrax, pantera, testament ... all the good stuff. the ladies have taste. thanks for your reaction and appreciation of them.
@@jimmysrandom then I suggest "hammer of wrath" with "the awakening" intro, live tokyo 2020 ua-cam.com/video/otJZPUCwyOM/v-deo.html and "set the world on fire" live tokyo 2021 from their official channel (audience is covid restricted, but band is on fire incl. miyako in the 5th month.) and it was the last gig with old bassplayer and founder miho.
Welcome to the world of Lovebites - the world of phenomenal musicianship and powerful vocals. Lovebites is a Power Thrash band and can't be painted as one specific genre because they can play so many different genres of heavy metal. Midori and Miyako are one of the greatest guitar duos I have ever seen/heard. You'll agree once you do more of their songs. Check out their song "A Frozen Serenade" next to see another side of them.
The member who left founder and bassist Miho was a huge fan of Steve Harris Iron Maiden Bassist and co founder drummer Haruna is a huge Helloween fan, Midori(blonde shredder) has influences like Malmsteen and Bettencourt whereas Miyako who plays Guitar and Piano is more into the Gary Moore's and Ritchie Blackmore's and Asami vocalist was singing R&B before joining lovebites and learning to sing power metal but she reminds me of a female Bruce Dickenson of Iron Maiden
As LOVEBITES, we have been exploring new metal fields. The girls continually come up to the challenge. It's fun. 【From an interview with Asami and Fami for a magazine project in Japan】 When Covid19 subsided and the audience was able to speak up, Asami thought it would be nice to have a song that everyone could sing, both on stage and in the audience. Asami wanted to use the sound of "river" in the lyrics, but thought it would be strange to use "river" as the chorus. Asami found "deliver" and thought it would be cool if everyone shouted it out instead of just telling what the word means. For many Japanese, pronouncing and hearing the English "r" and "l" is difficult. From there, Asami arrived at "stand and deliver. "Stand and deliver" is a pirate term that apparently means "Leave all your money!" Asami thought that if he wrote the lyrics as they were, it would be a song about a "pirate king. Asami wanted to avoid that. Asami learned that "deliver" can also mean "to carry out" or "to be free" in addition to "to deliver. Asami uses "Stand and deliver" with the following interpretation and meaning. Stand up and be free! Rise up and be free! Arise and be free! Let's get up and be free! From there, Asami put the following thoughts into the lyrics. Nothing satisfies me. It's boring to be like this every day! Let's go more bouncy! Let's be bold and do something different! Let's break out of our shell!
Jimmy, great reaction. LOVEBITES is the best metal band in the world, imo, and BAND MAID is the best hard rock in the world in my opinion too but always try to see them live official or fan cam...
Cheers!
@@jimmysrandom Let me help out a little more. Gacharic Spin, MindSet - ua-cam.com/video/QmL0V667QzI/v-deo.html Unlucky Morpheus, Black Pentagram - ua-cam.com/video/RUiRlUGMTwY/v-deo.html Asterism, Dawn - ua-cam.com/video/buQPvINJcA0/v-deo.html The Asterism video was taken in a small club by a fan standing right in front of the stage so the audio is surprisingly good
Thank you!
@@jimmysrandom If you are within a long day drive from Dallas, you should consider seeing Nemophila on March 19. I believe the club only holds 400 so everyone will be pretty close to the band.
They are as bad ass as it gets!!!🔥🎸🔥🎸✌️
Welcome to lovebites, this ladys are so good with their skills on instruments, LOVEBITES ROCK
LOVEBITES has the incredible ability to wear their influences on their sleeve yet sound completely original.
Very talented!
Turning on closed captions will allow your viewers to follow along with the lyrics.
I'll give that a try! I did turn them on watching some interviews.
Sweet! I dig the UK metal vibe and I love thrash. I think I'm in for a ride. Thanks for the info and Cheers!
@@jimmysrandom Check out their song "The Crusade." It is a direct tribute to Iron Maiden, with the music based on Aces High! ua-cam.com/video/ueKyQ4xI-mY/v-deo.html
They also have covers of Judas Priest and Helloween!
Painkiller (Judas Priest cover) - ua-cam.com/video/QQu9PQmmHKI/v-deo.html
Eagle Fly Free (Helloween cover) - ua-cam.com/video/To21HILZvYE/v-deo.html
I got the Painkiller cover on my list!
Another new song MV Judgement Day, other live songs Set The World On Fire, Raise Some Hell, Break The Wall, The Hammer Of Wrath, Holy War, cover song Pain Killer(Judas Priest)
I'm torn between Judgement Day and that Pain Killer cover for the next one. Cheers!
@@jimmysrandom Judgement Day first MV, Pain Killer only audio...
@@zabriabubakar5982 Sounds like a plan.
My bad,🎸and 🥁 so crazy good, LOVEBITES ROCK
Indeed!
🤘LOVEBITES🤘
they are worthy to stick with them. you witnessed their musician skills.
Oh that's get's me excited! I'm a huge thrash fan!
@@jimmysrandom then I suggest "hammer of wrath" with "the awakening" intro, live tokyo 2020 ua-cam.com/video/otJZPUCwyOM/v-deo.html and "set the world on fire" live tokyo 2021 from their official channel (audience is covid restricted, but band is on fire incl. miyako in the 5th month.) and it was the last gig with old bassplayer and founder miho.
welcome to the world of Lovebites the world of beautiful ballads, heavy, power, speed, thrash metal.
I'm down with all of that!
Fami Fami Fami!
Now check out their song Judgment Day. Then you'll be a fan for life.
That one is the most requested so it will be next. Cheers!
@@jimmysrandom it's truly incredible. Not even exaggerating.
They have so much better songs for you to check out, especially the live performances🤘🏻🐺🤘🏻
I can't wait because that one was awesome!
I will add that to the list, cheers!
It's a perfect mix. You can hear the Maiden and Helloween for sure with their own flavors. I also get a Tipton/Downing vibe from the guitars. Cheers!
As LOVEBITES, we have been exploring new metal fields.
The girls continually come up to the challenge.
It's fun.
【From an interview with Asami and Fami for a magazine project in Japan】
When Covid19 subsided and the audience was able to speak up, Asami thought it would be nice to have a song that everyone could sing, both on stage and in the audience.
"Stand and deliver" is a pirate term that apparently means "Leave all your money!"
Asami thought that if he wrote the lyrics as they were, it would be a song about a "pirate king.
Wow, that's really cool. I like bands that have the courage to be different.
Jimmy, great reaction. LOVEBITES is the best metal band in the world, imo, and BAND MAID is the best hard rock in the world in my opinion too but always try to see them live official or fan cam... Amazing + bands. When I say the best...I am thinking in male, female and 'plastic'. Keep going but use headphones to feel the wild quality of both bands and let me comment that Haruna ( Lovebites drummer ) and Akane ( BAND MAID drummer ) are close friends and I dont know yet who is more skilled and mad on drums...and I dont mind.
I would love to catch them live someday!
As Miho once used to say : Heddebango !
🤘
Nemophila, Hanabie and Lovebites. Three of my favorite Japanese metal bands. Along with SHOW Ya, Maximum the Hormone and Dazzle Vision (2006-2014). This song is an absolute banger and these ladies, like most Japanese bands, are fantastic musicians and great people as well.
There is so much amazing music coming out of Japan! The rabbit hole is deep!
