These two remarkable beings bring me to tears every single time. Thank you so much you are caring on the ancestors so well its striking. Love you both!!! From across the seas!!!
Má fhaighimse sláinte is fada a bheas trácht ar an mhéid a báthadh as Anach Cuan. Mo thrua amárach gach athair is máthair bean is páiste atá ag sileadh súl. A Rí na ngrásta, a cheap neamh is Párthas, nár bheag an tábhacht dúinn beirt ná triúr? Ach lá chomh breá leis gan gaoth gan báisteach is lán an bháid acu a scuabadh ar hiúil. Nár mhór an t-ionadh os comhair na ndaoine a bhfeiscint sínte ar chúl a gcinn? Screadach is caoineadh a scanródh daoine, gruaig á cíoradh is an chreach á roinn. Bhí buachaillí óga ann, tíocht an fhómhair, á síneadh ar chróchar is á dtabhairt go cill. Is gurbh é gléas a bpósta a bhí á dtórramh is, a Dhia na glóire, nár mhór an feall? Loscadh sléibhe agus scalladh cléibhe ar an áit ar éagadar is milleán crua, mar is iomaí créatúr a d'fhág sé ag géarghol, ag sileadh is ag éagaoin gach maidin Luain. Ní díobháil eolais a chuir dá treoir iad ach mí-adh mór a bhi sa gCaisleán Nua. Is é críochnú an amhráin gur báthadh mórán is d'fhág ábhar dóláis ag Anach Cuan
It is the first time I heard this song though I remember learning it as a poem at school about 70 (seventy) years ago. It is a very sad story but I loved the song. Go raibh mile maith agaibh.
What stunning beauty, it is sad, it brings lonely thoughts to your mind, it brings tears to your eyes, it is spiritual, it makes you think of times past and present, It is a rare beauty that also gives hope and strength to carry on and cope. But why have I a fully grown man got tears in my eyes.
Actually it’s a bit sadder, it was just an ordinary boat used to ferry men women and children from once place to another, and although it was fine weather, the ship sprang a leak in a stroke of misfortune, no one survived.
It was a group of young people going in a boat with some cows from Annaghdown to a fair in Galway city by Lough Corrib a big lake. I was told the cows stamped and made a hole in the rotted wood of the boat, water leaked in and they all drowned. My grandmother from Annaghdown told me the story. Eanach Dhúin is the Irish name for Annaghdown meaning the Marsh of the Fort, a beautiful ancient village by the lake shore

Annaghdown is west Galway...definitely not east Galway...great song by a Garda by the name of Richard Farrelly, who also wrote Isle of Inisfree. He was married to a woman from Headford, that connection is maybe what inspired him to write the song...they were headed to the fair in Galway, when one of the sheep put it's foot through the floor of the boat. 20 people drowned, 11 were rescued...RIP +++

Per square mile, the Conamara Gaeltacht has to give any place on earth a run for its money for great singers.
The singers of the south wales valleys would give them a run for their money! 🏴

There is something crazy spiritual about this. It's so haunting.
You got that completely correct, it is a cry or the deepest sadness, it is a prayer, it brings you into the mystic,
🙌 brilliant song which is sang by two amazing and talented individuals 👏👏👏🍀⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A song of mourning about a ship wrecked in a storm and all hands were lost
Actually it’s a bit sadder, it was just an ordinary boat used to ferry men women and children from once place to another, and although it was fine weather, the ship sprang a leak in a stroke of misfortune, no one survived.
My dear departed Father & Mother would have known about this story, this song, they came from that area
