My wife watches your content without fail(using my email account 😊). She says that you are one of the hardest working, passionate people that she has ever seen. We are grateful that you care so much about God, family, country (and people like us, that you will never even meet). Thank you!
We actually lost a baby goat last night. My daughter is devastated. Unfortunately we just couldn’t keep him going and it was one of those situations where he was doing good and then a couple hours later he was gone. Once again your content is great and very necessary for real life.
About a month ago, my daughter in law lost a goat. She thought it was old age, but wasn't sure. Then yesterday, I found out the other 2 died a day apart. They died a couple weeks ago. They were all fine one day and that afternoon or next day they were dead. The first might have been sick the day he died, but the other 2 showed no illness.
Native Americans have such respect for taking an animal’s life for food. I wish we all could be so spiritual and grateful. Blessings from Kentucky Angie
I agree and all the food we waste and take for granted. I dont see how anyone could not have a connection with there animals. Makes me wonder how they are with there families and children
Happy Birthday sweet woman! This IS a great community. I hope you know that we’d fight a bear for you Patara! I’m always so excited to see you post. Praying for your goat.
I'm praying for you honey,we lost our family cat. All of us bawled like babies when she passed on a new years day. Years ago. They become family. I'm a 71 year old widow and live with my little doggie. She keeps me company. Prayers. God loves animals. ❤️
I feel you Patera, we name ours too. I have found after several months in the freezer it no longer bothers me as much. I do have family that when they complain about the cost of food, I offered some pork that they watched us raise and they emphatically refuse to take any. 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️ Their loss Name your critters, take excellent care of them, process them, eat them, raise more.
My thoughts. If you don't love your animals, then you shouldn't have them. Just my thoughts. Thank you Patara from your friend in Northwest Alabama. You have a friend here.
My heart is with you! We had a set of lamb twins 4 days ago, only to find out that the mama had mastitis. While we are treating the ewe, we lost one of the babies. I am bottle raising the other one...in my dining room. It is so difficult to not get attached to the animals, be it chickens, ducks, sheep, goats, cows or pigs! It doesn't matter if they have names or not! Sending prayers for Vinnie, and for you...his human!
Goats are hard because they are as smart as dogs. I could ask my mama goat "where's your baby?" and she would immediately start calling for it. Very intelligent creatures.
I appreciate so much how you treat your animals. It is spiritual. Native Americans have it right. It shows the type of person you are. How we treat God's creatures is important.
I always come here for comfort. I grew up in a life like yours. This world is so unstable now. I remember a movie I saw as a kid. A Mother and son were sitting at a table getting ready for their last meal. Many people had died. They always prayed before they ate. The son asked,” Mom what do we pray for?” The Mother said,” that we remember the good times.” Some things you never forget. Don’t mean to be gloomy. Your channel is so comforting because it reminds me of the good time as a child. Thank you.
Boy sounds like our goat a couple weeks ago. Our vet didn't really know what was wrong with her, we did what you are doing and she gave her thiamin. She is doing fine now thank the Lord! Hope yours is up soon!
You have a way of steadying the boat. You have humour, common sense and a hard work ethic and I love that combination. The only thing I lack is this: you are not my neighbour! I wish I had a neighbour like you and your family. You might even convince my husband to let us have chickens.
I don’t have goats, but I do have horses and I know the exhaustion that comes with around the clock care. You do the best you can until they get better or not. Sending prayers for the little guy. Always great to have a vet that trusts your judgement.
Sorry to hear about Vinnie, Prayers that he will make a full recovery. I had goats from 2007 until 2022 and understand your frustration. It's so hard when they get sick. I see that you are wonderful with your critters. I do miss having goats and may have some again but not as many since I'm getting older. I do still have my chickens, ducks, geese, one Turkey, a female pot belly pig and my 2 Livestock guarding dogs. Blessings & Prayers
Happy Birthday Patara! I’m sorry about your wether Vinny and hope he recovers quickly. My last goat passed at age 18 a couple of years ago and there were some rough times like you mentioned. I love my animals like you do and am facing some hard decisions too. We’re just recovering from Icemageddon here in Oregon and 11 days without power so I feel like a real survivalist now 😉. Prayers and blessings ❤
Sounds like goat polio, Patera. Lots of Thiamine (B complex) and Penicillin- both every 4-6 hours. You’re on the right track ❤ hope he pulls through for you.
The wonderful thing about animals is that they pretty much don't judge how your hair or clothes look. You can just be yourself with them. I hope Vinny improves. God bless you and your fur babies (and James, too).
I know you will make the best decision about Vinnie. You have the guidance of the Holy Spirit and I KNOW that is the case. Blessings from SE Illinois. As for the current political issues and especially Texas border issue I believe with all my heart that the true Patriots will make their voices heard. Much Love my dear. Carry On.
Our two youngest goats just died, they had a reall hard time during this past cold Appalachian life, we had to bring them inside the home for 4 days. They were doing great so back outside they went as temps came back up, but sunday morning the 8 week old was dead, this morning the 16 week old was dead. B vitamin, electrolytes, probiotics, pellets, hay. They were doing great! Then just dead.
Did they have access to baking soda? I had that happen to me with kids at the same age. Finally found out about baking soda and made all the difference.
Happy Birthday Patara! Hope your special day was wonderful. My son had to put down one of his mama goats recently. He had been doctoring her for awhile and decided even if she improved her quality of life would never be like it use to be. She was almost 10 years old. Like all living things sooner or later it's nature's way to leave this world. Blessing to all.
I was raised to Treat your animals well and they will take care of you. Our feeding chores were done before we had our own supper. We name our animals, greater bond. The hardest is losing one by no fault and then its choosing the ones for our freezer. Great job Patera
I understand how hard this decision is way to well. I had to make this decision for one of my cows. She loved and trusted me and gave me beautiful calves for years but she developed arthritis and age was taking a toll on her. I gave her a beautiful life and refused to send her into the slaughter pipeline so I gave her the last bucket of grain and the last back scratching and she followed me on the trailer and I sent her to the butcher. Of course it hurt, and yes I cried, but having lived this way all my life I know what I did was the best thing I could do. It is a life style I chose and I have to do the responsible thing. These are decisions that homesteaders have to make, bless you sweetheart and prayers sent your way.
🎉 Happy Birthday 🎂 Patara. You look lovely,my husband calls it farm beautiful.❤So sorry about Vinny, praying he recovers.Although it is a reality with farm life, doesn't make it any easier. We do get attached.Alot of people don't understand the hard decisions that we make.My prayers are with you.
Your goats are so cute. My Boss and dear friend back before "Covid", wonderful woman...she had a little off season bbq at her homstead, she was so proud of, It was beautiful, serine... she had these few young goats and there was one who just took to me, he was so sweet. Your one remind me of that time. hilarious and indearing...love your talks. Many blessings
We lost a set of goat twins recently and a very young farm pup. She was beautiful and truly one of the best dogs we’ve ever had. She had eaten a chicken and showed no signs/was acting just like a puppy until a couple days later when it hit hard and fast and it was too late to take her to a vet. She had swollen bones and as they do, they got stuck somewhere…we are gathering. We just adore each of our babies and these were so hard.
🍰 Happy Birthday... Hugs & best wishes. Hope your animals thrive. So glad to have found your channel & have enjoyed your insights over the last few years.

Awww hang in there Vinny! Patara I just love how you love on your animals and have the connection with them. You obviously don’t see them just as commodities but rather respect them for the companionship and also the products that they provide for you. I pray for strength for you to make the difficult decisions that you may have to make. Love and prayers to you, James and everything on your farm.
Happy Birthday & sorry about Vinny. 💞 I raise goats for meat, milk, & fiber but don't eat them myself until a recent accident with a young doeling. I love them dearly as my own kids so it is very difficult to let them go. I will never be able to detatch myself from them knowing what I know. I agree that you have to make hard choices to benefit the entire ranch & home. With more possible droughts coming & illnesses in my herd, I had to drastically downsize to a more managable herd. You are doing an awesome job with your animals & I personally love watching you enjoy them so much!❤❤ Prayers for Vin!🙏
