Great job as always Russ. Always appreciate your videos. Any chance you could show us how to get some of Chris Brown's vocal effects on Don't Wake Me Up? especially around the 2:38 mark where it seems to stutter melodically. You general thoughts on the production/mix of either that song or Don't Judge Me would also be quite helpful. Thanks a lot.
How does this compare with the new Arturia Synclavier V? The Arturia version uses the official Synclavier files from Cameron Jones.... The "unofficial" UVI version probably just uses sounds sampled from a Synclavier keyboard. Both are probably incredible though... One being official and the other being unofficial, I suppose. The Arturia version can even legally use the official Synclavier name.... And the orchestral "Hits" came originally from the Fairlight CMI. And sampling came from Peter Vogel from Fairlight CMI.
UVI synths are just samplers, with filter and effect unit added on the signal path. UVI just sampled the sounds from the Synclavier and the Fairlight CMI. The Arturia emulates the original synthesis (with more parameters, like the capability to have a modulator made of an additive wave, while the real Synclavier could only modulate with a pure sine)
Hmm. I don't think the Synclavier sounds anything like the DX. The sound is much richer and far more akin to wavetable sound. Listen to Laurie Anderson's 'Mister Heartbreak' which is ALL Synclavier presets! ... and FAB! The Synclavier was a high-end hybrid of sampling and FM synthesis, mainly used in expensive studios and by superstar performers like Frank Zappa. The DX was aimed squarely at the mass market and its presets swamped pop music for most of the 80's. Scritti Politti had to link 7 DX7's together to get anything like the sound of a Synclavier.

THE ARTURIA VERSION DOESNT HAVE THE SAMPLES ONLY THE SYNTHESIZED SOUNDS OF THE SYNCLAVIER
I wonder if they copied the quantization feel of the real synnclavier.
