He teased her about not having talent but always wanting to be “ on the show.” They didn’t do standup, no, but they DID do a vaudeville show together to see how audiences responded to them as a team. It was sort of like an audition process for I Love Lucy. If it turned out that audiences liked them on vaudeville, then they’d be given the go ahead by tv execs ( who didn’t think the real life couple would be accepted as a fictional tv husband and wife team). Their act was turned into the pilot episode for the series ( with some changes made later).
My kids and I watched that clip today. They’re learning to read and write and didn’t find it as funny as I did. English is definitely one of the hardest languages, especially if you’re an adult when you start learning it. This clip is a perfect example of the maddening inconsistencies and contradictions of our language.
If Ricky just used the context of the sentence leading up to the word in question, he would have been fine…😂😂😂😂😂 instead he ‘toooed’ his way ‘thruff’ making himself look like a fool!!!
I loved when she would poke fun at him. “What is that thin(g)? What thin? Now, don’t go making fun at my English. That’s English? 🤠
I love this show, and enjoy seeing your son discover this awesome comedy.
The Lucy and Desi scenes were always the best.
Thanks again, guys.
