To clear up some confusion, these ARE NOT C40-8s. Neither Kansas City Southern nor Kansas City Southern de Mexico have ever owned C40-8s, whether new or used. These are in fact C30-S7MPs that were built in 1994 from old Dash-7 or Universal series cores. The late build date is why they look so much like Dash-8s, since they have many similar components, such as cabs, radiators, etc. These are the roster numbers as best as I could tell: KCSM #3498 C30-S7MP KCSM #3488 C30-S7MP KCSM #3491 C30-S7MP KCSM #3487 C30-S7MP KCSM #3493 C30-S7MP KCSM #3494 C30-S7MP KCSM #3495 C30-S7MP
Good, though somewhat sad, video. All of those c-7s going to their end in Lordstown. On the bright side, we get to see your little railfan again (always a treat) and good views of Greenwich & Lodi. Good vids, Scott!
@@ScottTaipaleRail I was unaware that KCS had these until i stumbled across them accidentally which in return led me to your video, lol. Funny how that happens. Better this then never though, right? The paint looked pretty clean on these so either they were barely used after getting repainted or the paint was fairly new. Funny how these railroad companies spend the money to repaint something only to decide that they want to sell/scrap them shortly after. CSX is notorious for doing that, lol.

The question is why?where are they going? They should keep these girls and rebuild them.these are rare locomotives you don't see everyday what a shame to scrap these rare diesels!
@@brakie44820 Hate to break it to you, Larry's Truck & Electric is a major recycler and scrapper of locomotives, which is most likely what is going to happen to these units. CSX has just dumped a ton of locomotives on the market, and railroads aren't going to be interested in leasing Dash-7s when there are hundreds of C40-8Ws, SD60s, SD50s, etc to be leased. Unless by chance some GE orientated shortline wants them or they happen to find a buyer overseas, they will be cannibalized and scrapped. www.trainweb.org/lfnwfan/html/Larry%27s.htm
Larry's still leases out many locomotives but they buy way more than they'll ever have contracts to lease. The future is grim for these but I do hope we'll see a patched KCS running on Pan Am... fingers crossed!
@@brakie44820 Pardon me if I was unclear, Larry's Truck and Electric is still a major player in the lease market. For example, Larry's has been buying a bunch of the locomotives that CSX has been retiring and leasing them back out. I think pretty much all of the SD60s CSX sold off went to Larry's. Here is an example of locomotives that will easily find 2nd lives as leasers or can be resold to shortlines, etc. However, as Scott pointed out, there are many locomotives that go to Larry's that they know full well will never leave the property in one piece. Larry's is the last stop for many locomotives that have reached the end of their useful lives. These GE Super-7s are a perfect example. No class 1 in America is going to have the slightest interest in them, and I suspect that they will have a hard time even reselling them to a shortline. It's always possible that a lover of used GE's like Minnesota Commercial may step up to buy them, but considering the market has just been flooded with a bunch of newer and more powerful Dash-8s, there is really nothing to commend these units to anybody, even a GE friendly railroad.
I wish I had the money!I would buy every last one of these and fix them, and rebuild them and repaint them and sell them to the SHORTLINES who need more power!this is a huge waste of equipment and power!

Unfortunately the only time I ever had the opportunity to catch them was when they were going to the junkyard.

Nice Catch of two trains in Lodi
Ah i know that last shot, now i know that subdivision, always love the content keep it up scott
Thank you! Wanted to get a drone shot there too but not enough time to get it in the air
Great video, es muy triste ver a estas hermosas "Super 7" ser retiradas de México, saludos desde México! 😄👍
Thank you, It is a very long trip just to scrap them.
Con esto me voy a llorar las sd60 también no existen en kcsm 😢
Very Nice catch The Train of KCSM GE Super-7MP
What day did you shoot this video?
Awesome and great video TY for sharing
Thank you!!!
*Nice video. Greetings from Vietnam. Support you!*
Thank you!
Una verdadera lastima ver donde terminaron las super 7 de FNM, incluso algunas de ellas fueron ensambladas aqui en Mexico.
Lots of railroads getting rid of GE standard cabs. I heard it's difficult and expensive to put PTC in them.
Yes they’ve been culled on most railroads
Super 7 mp is no longer operating in January 2019
Must be heading toward Lodi, Ohio in Medina County. I am a bit NE in Medina. Spiffy footage indeed. Thanks.
Thank you, the last sceen was in Lodi. We chased to Akron but the beat us.
Recognized that RR bridge. I wonder if there is still that one- Amtrack -a-day on the CSX through Harrisville and Homer Townships.

They are most definately getting parted out. The frames are nearly 50 years old.
Rest in peace
Sold for parts or scrapped
Neither.. LTEX is a locomotive leaser so, these locomotives will be lettered LTEX and lease out to railroads.

Don't worry too much folks. They are only getting rid of their old locos because they are buying new ones. It's a healthy railroad.
