Another trivia bit about that LP: "There's a Place" & "Misery" were left off of Capitol's "The Early Beatles" after the VJ album was discontinued. They were eventually released on Capitols "Rarities" LP in 1980.
Great stuff here Joe.....I have only come across 2 copies in my 35+years of collecting....first one in the 80s was a regular Mono press cant remember 1st or 2nd version but by about 1989 had to sell 90% of my Beatles collection...newborn was here and bills diapers and formula add up very fast lol even then.....my 2nd copy was given to me with 2 whole boxes of records from a coworker in the mid90s...she said both boxes were in a closet for 30 years, knew I liked records and outright gave them to me.I know that one is a NM Mono 2nd press...always loved this LP and the look of it.Great video, take care and have a great week
i have just managed to obtain 3 original copies of this album in the uk, can not belive how lucky i was, it is very rare in the uk, i have had a couple of the bootlegs for years, great video
I have a copy that when I put the song, another one comes out, I think it was Love me do or Please Please me...You know what copy it will be, I have that lp more than 40 years
Joe, just caught this one. In 1977 I purchased a copy of this at a now long gone Zayre Depatrment store. Who knew there were so many counterfeit copies floating around even then. Think I'll pull it out and listen to the sound quality just for giggles! Oh yeah I think the price was $1.77........
Really interesting video. It's things like this that make it fun to look out for while record collecting. Been watching your videos for a long time and enjoyed every one. Thanks for keeping us entertained. Best wishes from East Midlands, England.
Hey Joe Your first one you showed is 100% authentic, and looks to be in amazing condition. The Honey test is for Stereo copies, not the mono copies, same with the 1/4 inch cardboard. Now your second lp you showed, that is also 100% authentic. You have 2 very nice lps. There are NO fakes with the name The Beatles above the spindle hole, all of them are below it, Mono or Stereo, so before purchasing that mint one from your record store, you may want to pay close attention to that. Thanks for playing along, and I loved the mop top idea, that was a nice touch that no one else did in the 8 videos I watched. ~Cap
+smfcpthowdy -- You never know for sure if any given disc was actually included with whatever cover you buy. Record stores Frankenstein them all the time, for example, when they have many copies.
The first copy of this album that I bought was from either Tower Records or Licorice Pizza and it is a counterfeit. I have it framed now. I had never seen that album cover before, so I bought it back in the mid-late 70's. I have several genuine copies of different label variations now, with one of them being in a NM condition.
Thanks Joe, I would love to hear more about All the albums, even info of extra and differences of recordings. I dont recall any book that talks about this detail, and other bands.
Bruce Spizer did a book about 10+ years ago about the Beatles on Vee Jay and other odd US labels. It covers this LP in depth. I never got that book and I kick myself now because they are expensive.
Introducing The Beatles is one of my favorite Beatles US albums. My favorite version though is version 2 because it has Ask Me Why and Please Please Me on it which are my two favorite songs on the UK Please Please Me. I love PS I Love You, but Love Me Do is not one of my favorite songs of the Beatles. I like Ask Me Why better as the closing song on side one and Please Please Me opening side 2.
I wondered why ive heard of the album it S Album over here called Please Please mr i think ...your right about the cover pic its from the EP The beatles hits
Hi Joe! Nice response to Balding Boomer's video. Your copies look nice. I just posted my response showing all albums with "Introducing The Beatles". Hope you enjoy it. Take care Joe!
I bought my copy in the 70's from a cut-out bin. Cover say stereophonic across the top front, but the dusc is actually monaural. My copy has Love Me Do and P.S. I Love You, not Ask Me Why and Please Please Me. Record label is all black with silver print -- no color prism at label edge..
Hi Joe I know this is an older video but just to comment I also have a soft spot for the Introducing the Beatles album. I have multiple copies myself counterfeit but as you know these albums are popular in any configuration. The ones with the hype Twist & Shout sticker I like a lot. I do have Vee Jay Songs Pictures & Stories original & counterfeit too. The ones you have look legit but again they are great even if not. Nice tips about checking if album is original, there are a few more tips as you know but another time for that. The guy who wrote the book on Beatles Vee Jay records is Bruce Spizer, he has one on the Capital records 2 volumes - I believe. He’s one of the very few Beatles authors I would trust for accuracy. The first time I ever saw ITB album I was 10 or 11 in a friends basement & saw it in a pile of rubble, I was like what Beatles album is this? ( thought I was going into my third trimester ha ha). Anyway from then on I saw this album in a lot of Dept stores & small record stores usually going for around $1.99 sorry for the ramble on thanks.
+Astrosjer -- When I was at the 2014 Fest he was there, and he had all his books there for big discounts. But I still didn't want to pay what he was asking even though they are excellent (I have seen and read through others' copies).
Nice vid. Love this album. i bet you could guess why? Lol. That's right joe. The Honey test is if there is a a piece of ink missing on the top of the H or E in honey. Ill post a response to this thread also. Thanks
You bet! ;) Along with others I have too. Keep it coming on the finds. Also are you going to keep growing out your hair like the '68 - '69 Beatles? I think that would be awesome!!! Lol. Take care...
Joe at this years FEST do yourself a favor and pick up one of Bruce's books. I have all and in my opinion the most educated author of the Fabs who is also such a huge fan!
I have 3 copies. I think at least one of them is an original because a got a copy for free from my cousin, it was originally his grandma's I think. It has a VJ inner sleeve too. I have another copy where the logo on the record looks like the one on the cover, it has a music note
m s . there are no fakes these are the very first records created by veejay records . you get one guy who produces no company records and all of the sudden he's the only expert on beatles records. I look for facts and the facts according to the story they had 6000 records and covers but 2000 covers are in stereo. then capital records produced these fake color band veejay because they wanted to take over beatle records as corporate bullies do when veejay had a five year contract left on selling introducing the beatles. so the first true edition that were released in 1963 are these black versions with the beatles below the hole not above as these joker know it all are claiming. if somebody was educated in these facts they it would remove these lies about fake beatle records. these black versions were released before the lawsuit before capitol records forced love me do off veejay albums. so if you have a black label with love me do its one of 2000 that are of the stereophonic on the upper cover with Paul's thumb showing at the bottom of the cover. in legal battles all pending and past evidence is brought to light. so since these first copies made it to public stores there worth a fortune maybe six figures today. happy hunting I got mine!!!
I am pretty sure that my copy is "fake", but as I really like the cover and the label, it plays fine and only cost£10 (about $13 ?) I am very happy with it!
On the covers of both your versions here John's watch appears to be on his right arm so that might be an answer as to whether or not the images are reversed. No?
+grievousangel09 -- Except that when observing the EP called THE BEATLES' HITS, John appears to be wearing the watch on his left arm! The eyes look off on John and Paul on the album cover, IMO.
Darn! I have this album but with the Black label on the album and the Beatles name is below the circle but the songs are on this album Love me do & P.S. I love you and the H in Honey is clear. Do I have a fake? Thanks
For some reason I have never owned this album. I remember seeing it always at a discount price, it always seemed to my way of thinking, sort of bogus or something, but you're right, the cover is kind of nice... I see that you have Dylan's "Hard Rain" album - I found it to be a pretty rough album, but it's hard not to stare at that cover and for that reason I wish I still had it..
+Thomas Calden I'm one in particular who LOVES Hard Rain. Think i'm definitely in the minority, though. It's got an intensity that i think is lost on a lot of fans. Maybe it's cuz the song arrangements are somewhat different.
Grievousangel109 ..What stood out to me on that album was the version of "You're A Big Girl Now"...I'll have to give it another chance, it's easy to find a used copy of it, and like I said, I love the front cover..
Do they all have mislabeled record labels my copy says on the record label it has p.s I love you and love me do but when you play them its please please me and ask me why ?
Many would like to see this album released on CD but it will never happen. It is literally an artifact of music history. Bruce SPIZER is an expert in Vee Jay records history.
Your two copies seem to pass the authenticity test. My sister has an obvious counterfeit from the '70s. No shadow on the front cover. "Introducing the Beatles" above the spindle hole; "The Beatles" below. Vee Jay had a LOT of label variations for this one album.
I have a counterfeit with the v1 track list (Love Me Do and P.S. I Love You). It's very obvious. No George shadow, the back is paper rather than gloss, it says STEREOPHONIC on the top, and a myriad of other things. And it sounds quite terrible. Especially on "There's a Place", the pitch is all over the place! What I find strange is that most of the songs are in mono but Love Me Do and P.S. I Love You are in fake stereo, identical to a stereo Early Beatles or Please Please Me.
An episode of Bootleg Detective! I don't know if you can tell because of the dark color, but if the photo is reversed, the boys suits should have the breast pocket on the left not on the normal right. And remember, "America's Greatest Recording Artists are on Vee Jay"!
Hey Joe after seeing Mathew Street recent video on introducing the Beatles , which was quite I thought was quite good , I just happen to find this video you posted back in Feb 23 2016 , yes introducing the Beatles was counterfeits quite a lot , there was probably counterfeits of counterfeits , a great detailed description here , also another tip of another fake label with "THE BEATLES" printed above the spindle hole , what gives it away is the Vee Jay logo , its twice the size it should be , the fake variation is Rare . have you gotten any more introducing the Beatles lps since you did this video , would you do an up date on the video review ? , great video very informative , cool mop top have a good one take care Peace
Another trivia bit about that LP: "There's a Place" & "Misery" were left off of Capitol's "The Early Beatles" after the VJ album was discontinued. They were eventually released on Capitols "Rarities" LP in 1980.

I like your moptop hair style. You look cute. I'm going to see about getting a copy of Introducing the Beatles.
I have a copy that when I put the song, another one comes out, I think it was Love me do or Please Please me...You know what copy it will be, I have that lp more than 40 years

Introducing..THE very first beatles album mom's bought me back in like '74. age 9 or so. God I wish it never disappeared
Hey Joe

Thanks for telling me my all-black label(with Beatles above the labelis legit!)
I never had a desire to get the early albums, but now I think I should have picked them up when they were so cheap in the 80s...
dixielandfarm The photo is Reversed!! I knew that as a kid in 1964! Hp)
Hey Joe. They both look legit to me. Love the Beatle Hairdo. Take care...
The first Beatles album i bought. 1.00 at a Wolco in 1973. Never been the same since..
+James Hyatt -- Sounds like a very smart investment. :)

Yep Joe. He did a whole book on the Vee Jay records and his chats/AV presentations are worth the price of admission alone to the FEST!
+Astrosjer -- When I was at the 2014 Fest he was there, and he had all his books there for big discounts. But I still didn't want to pay what he was asking even though they are excellent (I have seen and read through others' copies).
I bought mine in 64 in mono. My son bought a bootleg stereo for $45 because the the stereo was supposed to be more valuable
are there are numbers in the dead wax area ?
I have two, one with a plain black label.
Nice, informative video, Joe. I have this album but I'm really not concerned if it's a bootleg or not. Take care.
+Beatlecat1 -- No problem, thanks.
When you mop top your hair, could you shake your head like Ringo did?
Nice vid. Love this album. i bet you could guess why? Lol. That's right joe. The Honey test is if there is a a piece of ink missing on the top of the H or E in honey. Ill post a response to this thread also. Thanks

As I get older I'm trying to keep it shorter... but I always hate getting haircuts!!
the ones without the flap were California covers
Joe at this years FEST do yourself a favor and pick up one of Bruce's books. I have all and in my opinion the most educated author of the Fabs who is also such a huge fan!

The H and E Need to be completely printed. The 1/4” fold is visible on the inside of the jacket.
If the labels say "Introducing The Beatles" above the spindle whole, it is authentic. All counterfeits will have "The Beatles" below the spindle hole.
On the covers of both your versions here John's watch appears to be on his right arm so that might be an answer as to whether or not the images are reversed. No?

those albums are legit city!!!
