This is new info for me and I was a teen when the Manson family was tried. Always thought Manson was arrested at Spahn Ranch. Never heard of Barker Ranch until your video. Just subscribed. You do a great job with visuals and narration!
Manson and others were arrested at Spahn Ranch about a week after the murders. The arrests were for car theft and illegal guns, but they were mysteriously released. The Manson clan soon fled to their hideout in Death Valley (Barker Ranch). As this video says, Manson and his group were arrested for vandalism there.
Interestingly enough, we went to Eagle Mountain and were asked not to film the location, and we respected their request. The place still has about 4-6 families that live there and it has been a target of vandalism recently.
The road from Ballarat to the beginning of the canyon is all gravel. From the canyon to Barker Ranch is some gravel, mostly dirt and potentially some mud due to the local springs. If you take the correct route, you wont have too many steep inclines, but do a good route study beforehand as there is no cell service once in the canyon and even gps is spotty. Big tires will definitely be needed, and watch out for the burros.
There are donkeys that survive naturally in the area off scrub brush nearby. There is some water with vegetation hidden in the small canyons too. I'd assume anything else used feed that was brought in until it was no longer tenable.
Back when barker ranch was still a cabin and in good shape I spent several nights there was a really relaxing place to be sorry to see it was destroyed
@@MasonObscura Is Rock still there in Ballarat ? I was there a year ago. Great drone shots of Barker Ranch......I took my Polaris to Barker. The ledge up in the slot canyon can be a problem> good job man.
@@tonybabb2540 No, Rock isnt there anymore. Louie is running the show. I think he may have retired somewhere around Trona, but thats a guess. And thanks, it was an adventure for sure. Glad you enjoyed it!
2009 mysteriously burned down? same year Susan Atkins dies, strange.. I think their Topanga hangout burned down, too and maybe Spahns? what's the odds on that... great video, thanks
It was a family who stole a vehicle that belong to the National Park Service, i believe, road grader. they torched outside the Park. A Park Ranger was sent out from the Park to investigate. The C.H.P. would have also investigate the arson of Federal Property. The C.H.P. knew who was the owner of the heavy equipment, and that is why, a NPS Park Ranger responded. That is when it became a joint investigation. The cabin site was also on Federal Lands, Managed by a sister agency the Bureau Of Land Management, out of Ridgecrest, Ca. This gave the Park Service Park Ranger authority to drive up to the Barker Ranch site. He had been in formed about the Mason Family & members by local law enforcement. When he arrived up at the site, his six sense kicked in. He was able to get backup up to the site, before they took control of some of the family members. As the Ranger invested the inside and when open cabinet that's when Manson surrender to authorities. Note: Never underestimate what a Park Ranger can do and the senses they use to investigate any situation.
The rumored Manson truck at Ballarat is not the right truck. That truck has never been held or owned by the Manson family and never had anything to do with them. BUT... I know where the real one is. I have photographs of it and was shown it's location by one of the men who was there on scene at the raid and arrest at Barkers ranch. He took poloroid photos of the gurls all handcuffed and sitting on the ground outside while they continued to look for Manson. They almost gave up and did one last search of the house. A lock of hair hanging out of the cabinet door of the bathroom vanity is what gave him away. He was hiding in there. He was a little guy.
Good vid! But everyone calls them the Manson family when they only ever called themselves the family. Manson was a leader of sorts but not THE designated leader. Read Lynette Fromme's book to get an insiders perspective.
This man is either a director of photography, a photographer, or should be. Beautiful shots, they just flow
Wow, thank you very much!
Great aerial shot at the end!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed!

beautiful thanks, dream to go there, how far is it from jimmorrisons movie site? thanks
A population density of "approximately" 1 per square mile. That's just too darn crowded for me! 😁
Another great video, my man.
Eagle mountain, un SO CAL, Might be a cool place for you to document .

@@MasonObscura rock on for respecting their request .
How long does it take driving through the hills and canyon to get to the ranch?
It's about 1+15 from Ballarat to the ranch if you don't get lost. From entering the canyons it's probably about 30-45 minutes.
Really nice presentation plus Drone footage.
Thanks!
Nice writing!
Question... I have a gravel bike, drop bar bicycle with big tires. Is the whole road gravel?

i know nothing about deserts , but it looks like there's nothing a farm animal could eat . so what did they raise ?
