  • Great tune from this legendary jazz group. Written by the pianist, Joe Sample, who also recorded a trio version. I was fortunate enough to have seen them in the late 70's (Wayne Henderson was no longer performing w them). Sadly, Stix Hooper is the only one of the 4 founding members still alive. From the CD "Powerhouse". Recorded in 1969. Reissued here on the Liberty Records label. Personnel:
    Wilton Felder - Tenor Sax
    Wayne Henderson - Trombone
    Joe Sample - Piano
    Buster Williams - Bass
    Nesbert "Stix" Hooper - Drums

This is the speed I heard on the The Golden Years 3CD compilation. For some weird unknown reason, the "official" version is 20-25% faster.

I dont know what you mean by "official" version. This is the speed I've always heard it at. I have the original LP and it's the same speed, AFAICT.

@@jazznik2 Wow. The best of I have was sanctioned by none other than Joe Sample himself (who chose all the selections personally). You don't suppose the same thing happened with this tune that occurred on Billy Joel's debut album (Cold Spring Harbor) when his then record label sped up all his vocal tracks to the point where he sounded like Alvin and The Chipmunks?
