I liked the art style - reminds me of a mixture of the old Fleischer cartoons and the SuperFriends art style. The Superman Family Album shorts were great - they really showcased the human side of Superman, which is what he is all about.
Great video! I checked the series out because of you! One note, IMDB has Mary Macdonald Lewis and BJ Ward mixed up. It is in fact BJ Ward that voices Wonder Woman in this episode and Lewis who voices Cyrene. So this show continued the use of BJ Ward in the role. The voice actresses are very distinct, right down to the little voice breaks that are Lewis' signature sound and present in the portrayal of Cyrene. As a Lady Jaye fan and a fan of Lewis, I can say with 100% confidence that there has been a mix up.
That's awesome you watched it and enjoyed it, and that I contributed to that!;) Hmm? Interesting, for it's not only on imdb, but also in Wikipedia and Fandom that states it is Mary Lewis as Wonder Wonder. Oh well....
@@zt1053 that's what the guy is saying though... that Ted Knight died before the show hit the airwaves. So perhaps this was recorded before his death, or was recorded by William Woodson?
Yeah, but really it's based on Neal Adams. In fact it's just based on all the Superman comics after Adams, such as Giordano, George Perez, Jose Lopez, etc etc. John Byrne is just "copying" all of them.
@@paulpolpiboon9535 nope, not Neal Adams, it is based on John Byrne's reboot of Superman after Crisis on Infinite Earths. John Byrne did not copy them he recreated a Superman that was more believable and realistic.
This show was good , superman is very intelligent. And notice that in the Episode The Beast Under these streets, after lossing his powers. He can defeated a two thieves, fighting in human condition. Broke the show in Superman 2 from Richard Lester. And The Hunter was a prototype of Doomsday.
After being assaulted with Superman 4, I was ready to see this cartoon but it came on at like 6 am, the first cartoon on CBS and i could never wake up in time to see it. I was in the 1st grade in 1988 and remember it clearly. I douls only wake up in time to see the credits every single week. It was sooooo annoying and then the show jusy went away.
Dallas is just full of dumb folks. They could arrange the order of those cartoons back then and instead of having a show like that come on later like with Xmen in 1992 (more complex shows come on later , 1988 was still so primitive that the local affiliate decided and they put this show on first. I guwss it all became moot cause they eventually stopped having cartoons on Saturday morning because of the spread of stupidity everywhere when Congress decided to ban cartoons unless they ripped off sesame Street because the dumbness just spread from the $hithole of Texas
The CBS schedule was like this in late 1988-1989 - from WUSA Washington, D.C. Ch. 9 (CBS) [Eastern]: 6:30am Garfield and Friends 7:00am Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures 7:30am CBS Storybreak 8:00am The Adventures of Raggedy Ann and Andy 8:30am Superman 9:00am Jim Henson's Muppet Babies 10:00am Pee-Wee's Playhouse 10:30am In Our Lives (pre-empted for Garfield and Friends) 11:00am Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures (pre-empted for Hey Vern, It's Ernest!) 11:30am Teen Wolf
According to reports he was considered to play Superman but they wanted him to loose weight. Also, he wasn't exactly onboard with playing a cartoon character wearing tights and underwear on the outside 😂
Indeed. What Toei did in Superman and in the Marvel stuff like Spider-Man, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, Dungeons & Dragons, Transformers, and Defenders of The Earth was terrific.
I like the animation for this series so much better than the 96 series and the 90s Batman series. The squared faces on Superman and Batman Annoyed the crap out of me
Of course, TOONY art is NOT comic books. Realistic Art is the dominant signature of comic art style, that's why this series is so amazing! The animated series is funny toons shit
Loved to watch these with my grandfather
...these cartoons can appeal to older and new Superman fans.
CBS. This was the best SUPERMAN cartoon ever.
This animated series is currently available on the HBO MAX streaming service.
must have been removed as I have Max and it is not on there sadly only streaming place I ever saw it on was Tubi but it was also removed from it too
@@davesmith3565Tubi is great but stuff leaves quickly.
It was a great underrated show. I really wish there had been other seasons with more guest stars.
Yep, each Saturday I was waiting for an episode with Batman guest-starring that never came.
I watched this series but somehow, I don’t remember anything from it.

Very nice job. A thorough review.
So glad you liked it! Thank you for watching!🙂👍
This was very well done. A real favorite. 4:39 time code the inker colored the S on the cape the wrong color lol.
@@scottfordbrewer4380 lol! Yep, the occasional goofs.
Man the best version of Superman had so much substance

....I guess it might be one of those cases such as who actually voiced The Joker in the Filmation show and Scooby-Doo; Ted Knight or Larry Storch?
The narrator likely was not actually Ted Knight as he had passed away in 1986. It is strongly believed to be Ted Knight sound alike, William Woodson.
It was the same narrator as the super friends
@@zt1053 that's what the guy is saying though... that Ted Knight died before the show hit the airwaves. So perhaps this was recorded before his death, or was recorded by William Woodson?
based loosely on John Byrne's reboot

I agree completely. Hunter was certainly a better foil than Nuclear Man.

Yeah, it was quite an effort to catch this show at its very start.
I liked Lex Luthor in this cartoon!
I loved this series
I liked it, especially seeing the Toy Biz Lex Luthor in animation, but having Duke do his (LL) voice was a little jarring.
Michael Bell as played young lex in Challenge of the superfriends.
@@TheWg2100s I noticed that the other day and literally did the Leo DiCaprio meme
Had these on DVD and lost it! Now can't find anywhere because sold out! 😢
Just saw them listed on ebay. Somewhat pricey, but they're there.

Wow! Slow down! I'm only catching about every other word of your narration.
15:59 Yet Another Reeves involved with Superman.
How Steve Reeves(Hercules) didn't get to play Superman at some point in his prime is beyond me.

A lost art is the design of this, Spider-Man(1981), Super Powers: Galactic Guardians, and Pryde of The X-Men.
I can handle your handle your opinion if you’re not into the show itself.

This art style was natural and superior to Superman the Animated Series
