Tholu bommallata - Elephant motif

The age old art of leather puppetry called “Tholu Bommalata”, whose literal translation is Art of Leather Shadows. This art has existed since 200BC and it derives its motifs from Hindu mythology. It was only under the royal patronage of Satavahanas, Pallavas, Challukyas & Kakatiyas that this art was revived.
These Leather Lamps and clocks are inspired by the artform of Tholu Bommalata and are handcrafted by artisans from Andhra Pradesh. Each art piece is individually hand-painted by ethnic indian art forms - the designs are inspired by traditional Leather Puppetry.
