Poppa Lion Meeting his Cubs for the first time - MTKS
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 лют 2015
- This is Leo a large male African Lion, today he is meeting his cubs for the first time now that they are a couple months old and established. He doesn’t know that they are his cubs and with the high infanticide among male lions we were all curious to see how he would be with them as their mother has fully rejected them. The Mothers milk has dried up and to prevent the cubs from starving they had to be bottle fed until able to eat on their own. Once removed the mother became incredibly hostile towards them as you can see at the end of the video.

Hey everyone just wanted to answer a few questions all in one shot. The video explains a few of these things but not sure if everyone watched till the end or just missed it but here it is.
1. The area they are housed in is not their full-time area or "cage" they have a large outdoor pen accessible via a "doggy door type setup" which they use freely, this is just their fully heated "den".
2. The mothers milk dried up and she was no longer able to care for the cubs early on so they had to be removed in order to bottle feed them to survive, once they were removed she became aggressive which is common and that is why she acts as such.
3. The "leash" as its been refereed to is actually a "leader" this by no means is meant to control the lion its simply a way of letting them know that you are there and help guild them where you wish them to follow, a lion is a powerful animal and if provoked would have no issues overpowering a person. We are able to interact this way with them because of trust and bonds formed over years.
Thank you
MTKS Adventures thank you so much for inserting that information glad to know that they have more leg room to be free... Thanks for sharing video and I'm subscribing now
MTKS Adventures - Will the cubs mum ever accept them back later on? Shame her milk dried up, what happened for her milk to dry up, a complexity or condition she has?
Fascinating. Thanks.
Men I love lions they are the best animal's in the whole world
Perhaps enabling the subtitles option will help? It's kinda hard to hear what the guy says, especially at the end where the lioness roars. Thank for the info though!
The first sign that an adult male lion realises the cubs are not his own, he will kill them, thus ensuring his gene pool is not contaminated.
This lion knows instantly these are his cubs.
Peter Lewis that's not always true
Im not disagreeing with u I actually wanted to know how they would know its their own cubs if they were either apart in the beginning or whatever and had to be bottle fed. I'm just starting to really get into lions and how they live so I didn't know if they would smell like human or something n reject. UGH SORRY basically wondering how they'd know instantly the cubs R theirs. Lol
Peter Lewis He has never seen these cubs, he had no idea they were his. He is also a captive raised lion, his wild instincts are near non-existent.
I agree. The lion was very docile probably due to all of its human handling. He might not have smelled his smell on the cubs, but he probably smelled his human's smell on them and that was enough for him. Plus, the humans were there with the cubs and he wasn't left alone with them. I still think he's probably gentler than he would have been if he didn't have all the human interaction. He's not quite wild.
@@gardyngurl32 the smell of his own will last 2 years
This may be the most majestic and beautiful male lion I've ever seen
Sam Gusman He is isn't he 😍
You've never seen Vayetse!! HUGE paws!!!
I don't know... seems to be wondering... child support? alimony? :(
You are not wrong there Sam
666 likes I made that happen
damn he is a beautiful lion, very very handsome.
I noticed that the eyes and the fur of the lions are very beautiful, but their faces are ugly.
panos kevre Their faces are majestic dude
panos kevre his Face Is what a lion looks like
Bestiality!
Definitely , a beautiful creature!!❤
Papa lion: why are you so tiny
Cub:I'm a cubby
brandon petronelli cubby is the name of my tabby lmao.
not funny
Cub No. 2.: "We're YOUR CUBBIES!"
The Social Worker: "It's true Mr. Leo, your estranged wife suffered a mental breakdown & was sent to an insane asylum. There are no other relatives except yourself, it's either you take them or it's the system for them".
Dad Lion: "Of course i'll damn take 'em in! I was a foster kid myself, it was HELL till the Cops took me out of that! I won't have my babies go through what I went through!"
LaBelleDame DuManor
Lion child support is a real bitch!
He was being super patient and gentle with them playing rough and hitting his nose and all. He must have recognized that they were his offspring.
NothingMaster he 💯 recognizes it or they would be killed
@ComaBerenices this has nothing to to with hand raised or not its an instinct that male lions have. They kill others cubs
these are simply tame lions, they enjoy each others' company. Lions and tigers in these places often live happily in the same enclosure and get separation anxiety if separated
so everyone here is an expert? crazy
he's beautiful, they treat him like a king 👑
Daisia Cordoba a king without a throne
Daisia Cordoba he is a king....!!!!!!
You people are absolutely insane , theres a reason y hes not in the wild and its probably very important, also i was saying hes living like a king because of how nice hes treated and has servants
Daisia Cordoba he's on a leash!! Don't u mean prisoner😨
Because he is, the king of the jungle!!❤✌
that mother lion reminded me of my mother in law....exactly how she reacts when she sees me....
chubby371 shit..
😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😋🙌🙌🙌🙌
Hahahah yea me too. For over 11 yrs she still hates me hahahha!
Lol
That male lion is absolutely beautiful. I'm glad he didn't try to kill the Cubs because mom sure sounded like she would tear them apart if she could get her claws on them
Lion don't need claws to kill, his paw swipe is also deadly.
Melissa Kessler Kevin Richardson works with (I hate to say has) a male lion called bobcat whos also amazing looking.
they ruined her figure shes pissed
Maybe the mom was just nervous?
Male lion dont kill their own cubs.
He's a good lion. He's got a great mane!
I see you on every lion video😂
Same lol i always expect to see a comment from her lol
Katherine Uribe you love lions
SUPA THICC ikr
SUPA THICC lol true she likes big male lions with thick manes
I would love to have the pleasure of walking with that lion around my neighborhood. Just to scare the hell of some chihuahuas that think they are badass...
Belmont79 😂 😂
Belmont79 - ROFLMAO😂
I had a friend who kept an African lion in her backyard in Brentwood, CA years ago. She got it from the defunct Animaland in Ventura, CA
It would be nice but you wouldn't live long enough cuz he would just bite your 💀 off
its great plan unless its wild intincts kicks in and it kills the lion
The daddy is sooo handsome and regal. Just gorgeous! Love the natural highlights in his fur lol.
I know women who pay a lot of money for that look. Leo wears it best :)
We'll just leave the kids at Daddy's house for a while.
Mamma is just a little too aggressive.
Maybe they should file for a divorce 😑
Maybe dad needs a restraining order against mom because she's too dangerous for the kids to be around.
@@thedarkangel156 . Also apply for full custody of the children. Mum is fit for the Loony Bin in this case.
@@maxshelltrack9720 or file for full custody and she pays child support!
Freak Zilla thank god mama finally has her own house!
Of course he knows these are his cubs. He knows by their smells.
Smell*
+bache15 I agree
he knows their his. I dont know if he knows what he looks like but if their like humans he can tell if they look like him and by their scent.
agree
@bache15 - An animal only recognizes something as his/her offspring if they already know their smell (and often even the voice) starting from a young age (nearly newborn cub/pup). And smell as well as voices are not hereditary/inheritable.
Since each animal has a unique smell and recognizes that of others it knows, it will not recognize young it has never seen before as its own. That counts for male and female animals alike. So this male lion could have very well thought "Offspring of another male, I need to get rid of it!" since he was not around when they were born and they are already a few months old when he first met them.
Animals don't think and act like humans. And even a human would not have recognized a child he/she had never seen before if you suddenly put a 2 year old baby in front of them.
In these lions eyes you see all the richness and the richness of its great creator.
Hoda M,A
Yep, very true!
God is Good!
Natural selection?
Yahweh
Amen to that
Billions of years of evolution? I love that guy.
What beautiful and majestic creatures. It's really cute how the cubs are like "play with us, Dad!"
I can’t believe some people are bitching about the lion being on a “leash.” They act like a leash can really hold the lion back LOL Newsflash dumbasses, if that lion really wanted to, he could drag the hell out of that man to his death. Trust and believe that the lion was 100% in charge of that situation. That lion has the strength to overpower every last one of those people who were surrounding him all at once. Stop acting like the leash is gonna hurt the lions feeling or his body. And these people don’t keep the lion on a leash, that was only for the purpose of getting a task done in a timely fashion and not have the lion wander all over the place and take forever for the interaction with the cubs and to try to keep a handle on things, as much as the lion allowed them to. Stop trippin’ as if the leash were somehow hindering the lion lol If you’re so against it, why don’t YOU try to go there and do what they do? It’s always the people who’ve never even been to the zoo who try to criticize people who risk their lives daily to care for these animals. How incredibly pretentious of some of you. Being an animal lover and owning pets doesn’t qualify you as the voice of reason on how to handle lions lol
First of all calling someone names just because they see things differently from you does not make you right.
What I said about leases was OMG lions on leashes because that was my first reaction. I guess you have never watched Kevin Richardson with his lions he is able to control them by just predicting what they are going to do before they do it.
He never puts other people in danger by letting people in there enclosures with them. Those leases give the other people around him a false sense of security. There are a lot of safer ways of transporting these animals from one place to another like you said the lions were not hindered in any way.
What I saw and I stand by it is that they were being treated more like pets then the magnificent unpredictable animals that they are.
Honesty4yoass Relax
All facts my luv
its another way of domesticating an animal. i guess. or person. whatever. you dont see the harm unless youre them.
Honesty4yoass preach
Leo, setting an example for all lion dads everywhere.
Holding him on a leash like hes really gunna be able to do something if he takes off......
Maybe the leash is to handle the man, not the other way around 😂
@David Radziwon - you got that right dude. I had a Labrador mix dog, she was like a medium size dog, when I walked her on a leash she pulled with power she was so strong, and I’m 6’1”
Now can you imagine the power any lion has, even a female lion will drag you with so much ease!
It’s not a leash lol
Yeah he will. He could kill them all duh
It's to guide the lion, not to keep it "hostage".
that is one beautiful male lion
Sekekama yes he is very handsome
That man's got balls of steel considering that lions can be unpredictable any moment!
actually the lion looks sweet with him
probably raised it from when he was very young
Shibon Skaria balls of carbon fibre
If you want to see something remarkable about lions and other big cats, go check out youtuber The Lion Whisperer. He plays with them and they come running to pounce him happily.
that's true. our lioness killed her mate after 8 years. some sources said she attacked him. other sources said there was a big fight. I don't know if it was homicide or "catslaughter", I'm hoping for the latter, though all the articles are making her look like she's pure evil, but the point is things had gone smoothly for 8 years and suddenly daddy lion is dead. His 3 year old male cubs were being separated from him because they were worried about the boys fighting their dad for dominance, now the boys are being separated from mom....I'm guessing for the boys safety. It's sad they aren't getting to play with their sister anymore. She's remaining paired with their mom.
Papa lion said, " what have i gotten into today" ? And mama lion said, " you can have em' , I'm done".
wow the mom and dad are complete opposites
Makes sense why though
janki bane of course dads are better than mom's 😆😉
She says you can't tame me like those fools, lol!
Mother is agressive coz her milk dried up and she could not care for her cubbies anymore
their like couples in the restaurant !!
*wife* my food cold u suck everything wrong
*dad* damn girl chill u embarrassing me
The cubs are just like ‘dad dad dad dad”.
And the dad is just like “calm it” then he says “ya wanna play fine”
7:27 i think she understood when he said "these cubs aren't going anywhere near her" lol
Brush I think is too. Like "what you say. You gonna take my babies away, who you think you are let me out of here and we'll see if you can keep them away from me"
And she didn't get to raise them so she would kill them
Nobody:
Literally nobody:
Cubs: *face smack*
Pause at 2:21 the pappa is smiling 😊
ROSITA Herrera aww the proud father😸
It's so cute seeing them
His first instinct is to lick them. And their first instinct is to claw the his face lol. Play but still..
hes taking in the smell of the cubs but it cute timing
@ROSITA Herrera yes
What a magnificent lion. It's incredible how a powerful animal capable to take down a 2,000 pound bull is acting so calm and nice like a little dogy.
Jose Campos dont compare lions to dogs pls
Jose Campos more like a little kitty
*yes*
Woooow Mamma is scary😨😨!!!! Reminds me of my mother when she's mad loool
2:20
Papa Lion: Look at my chILDRen!!!
Enjoyed the clip but that drum soundtrack was really annoying.
Truthia7 hahaha
The lioness is growling like a powerful Engine 😍😍😍😍
cause she wanted to kill her babies
This is soooooooo cool! The way he put his head up as if saying, "These are my sons." Pride of lions is the proper phrase. Excellent!!
This lion came straight outta a Disney movie.
He is a beauty
I was so happy when he said to loosen the leash Coz I find it so sad when he's not letting the cub really get to play with it's dad😢
while it is sad it was done to keep them safe as they were not sure how he'd react to his own cubs as sometimes cubs are killed by their own father's and mother's
Dude just starts grooming him like he is a house cat
Mom was pissed tf off. I felt bad for her. 😞😢🤧
don't instead feel bad for the cubs the mom was ticked off because she wanted to kill her cubs not because the "bad humies" or whatever others may think are keeping her cubs from her. Nature is not all rainbows and cupcakes mothers will and can kill their own offspring sometimes and hence why they separated the cubs from her before she did kill them
I loved how he looked at the camera and smiled, it was like he was saying “ look at my beautiful children”
The mom be like you were mistakes especially you little Tim
Lmfao 😂 wth
Olivia Pig Jesus H Christ ! “ I should have aborted y’all
Both” lol 😂
I think that Lions going to be a good dad
Single father, respect this man! Lion. Whatever.
Lol the cubs want a badass mane as well
that lioness roar though.
I couldn't even hear what he said
That’s the coolest looking male lion I’ve ever seen!!! I love his face and mane!!
Maybe u took the cubs away too early that's probably why she's aggressive because once u separate the mom from her cubs she'll be angry
The guy said it was because her milk dried up
SFAAPK7 that’s when she start hunting to feed them I guess. Being caged up prevents her from doing that.
Why don't you read their comment?
@Rashida D Zoos are required to have that area for them. Would you rather them be out in the snow?
Just read the channel's comment. It will clear all your doubts.
Lions can tolerate snow?
Yeah, in fact some lions like the asiatic lions and the extinct (but live on in zoos) live in snowy environments
Lions used to roam in Europe in ancient times. They were hunted off there and lion populations moved to Africa eventually.
Lions used to roam in Europe in ancient times. They were hunted off there and lion populations moved to Africa eventually.
Yes like white lions and black lions witch live in snowy environments
Barbary lions wich were the biggest specie of lions lived on the morocco moutains. Huge lions around 300kg
It wasn't even 5 minutes and that cub was already pestering dad and playing. Yep they are his cubs. 😂
Male lions are like male housecats. Sometimes they are good parents and sometimes not.
Most male cats living in a catfamily/community take care of the kittens :-)
And female cats are not neccesarily submissive toward the males, not even the alpha male, like lioness do... mess with the wrong female and they have no problem to beat the offending male trough sun and moon ;-)
I love how the lion used a tree as a nail scratcher
sorry, why the music. Not necessary.
It’s supposed to be “African”
The obviously African drums are remind you where lions come from and where they belong. Why should the drums bother you? Just enjoy the lions for Pete's sake!
Manny Bruce the music is distracting dumbass
Totally annoying
quetzal 13 uh why are concerned about the music u should focus on the lions
Cubs are always fascinated with their dads and uncles. Maybe It's how big they are or maybe It's their manes. Whatever the reason, they just can't get enough of dad.
2:21 beautiful, happy lion smile
not a smile he is smelling the phermones and scents in the air, it's how he knows their his cubs and not a rivals hence why he isn't trying to kill them
He is such a well behaved big beautiful boy
2:22 wasn’t a big ole smile, lol. He was taking in the cubs’ scent.
Yes, the Flehmen Grimace... he's taking a deep, long sniff to see who they are. He probably realized right then (by their scent) that they were his offspring.
Wow, that male lion is beautiful. So majestic. He looks just like Aslan from the Chronicles of Narnia.
Seeing lions in the snow, all they need is sabre teeth
What a beautiful male lion and his kids/Cubs are so cute ! Wow! Thank you for showing him off.
I like how they have them leashes like they’re gonna be able to stop the lions if they start running like that
Read the explanation above
dude do your research before you go making comments like that
The lion dad is a beauty!🦁💜
The lion must know these are his cubs by their scent.
The dad is so beautiful ! And seems to be patient with his cubs
OMG!! He’s probably one of the most, if not, the most beautiful lion I’ve ever seen!!! Wow!!! Leo gang, where you at?!
Would the father protect his cubs from the mother in the wild if this happened?
MancunianRedcoat If the mother attacks the cubs, the male lion would protect them just for keep the pride...
sadly the cubs would have died younger when the milk dried unless they were eating meat at the time.
If I remember right I think they might be 'adopted' by one of the aunties that still have milk. Not completely sure but I believe they actually will share the nursing of young cubs in a pard. After the first couple of months anyway.
Don't take my word though for that. I've just watched a lot of documentaries that I've probably mixed up. If they were even right in the first place.
Nirrrina your right females in the Pride share nursing duty often
Not sure she would've rejected her Cubs in the wild. Mothers go all out to protect their young. It seems that some animals in captivity tend to reject their offspring and humans have to intervene.
The lion looks magnificent in the snow! Especially his eyes and his mane!
Cats and dogs can smell dna. Seriously. So sweet when they first meet, I think they know they are related. What a majestic dadcat. Patient, gentle daddy. It's cute how he plays with his babies.
The male is so calm and just admiring his kids while the female is so aggressive 😂😂😂
Lioness didn't give birth to no fools.....xD
That female lion is crazy as fuck
That momma was angry but the father was amazing lol
He’s handsome and the cubs will be too. I think they know that is poppa.
Apparently people don't seem to be reading the pinned comment or I need to elaborate. Firstly THESE AREN'T MY ANIMALS, I was at a wildlife center filming a special event. When animals are rescued from a bad zoo or personal homes (Yes the laws on that are stupid) they cant be released into the wild and end up in rescue centers and sanctuaries, these places are key because if a home cant be found the animals often face euthanasia (being put down). A single lion can eat about 40-50lbs of meat a day and cost 50-75K a year just to feed let alone housing costs so these rescues and proper zoos are paramount.
The "Leash" is just whats called a lead, and it does just that, helps lead the animal somewhere. There is almost zero any human can do physically if a lion wants to run/etc the lead serves to just help guide the animal where we are hoping to end up location wise. If the animal bond and relationships where not setup with these animals make no mistake there is very little we could do to stop it, its because of trust that has been earned that this is all possible.
The "Small enclosures" are their dens, its a heated pen, they have access to a very large outdoor area where they can socialize (how cubs ended up happening) and run, because of the winters they require a heated pen for sleeping and security as people are crazy. Part of the reason for this slow introduction was to see how the male lion would react because if over the course of meetings it seems to go well as the cubs grow they may be able to be kept together or may require relocation.
Keep the questions and comments coming i will try and address what I can as these animals are not within my care personally. Thanks Everyone
Sad how people don't read these things before commenting
this was sooo cool to watch!!!! thank you!!
These folks are just chilling, petting and walking a grown king lion like if it were their pet dog. That is mind blowing and scary all at the same time. They truly have faith! Wow!
it's not really faith more so respect and trust
He's such a patient dad 😩♥️
4:30 DONT TOUCH MY BAALLZZZZ
Dads sometimes get a bad rap, but, in this case, dad has a big heart whereas mom wants nothing to do with her young ones.
I love the fact that they’re using a leash on him as if anyone could hold him back if he started running
Amy D Read the above explanation. It’s a LEAD to only guide the animal. Not a leash to walk the lion! Get it?
What a handsome and gentle big daddy 😍😍😍 It's amazing that he was that kind. It's known that male lions often don't have much patience but he is adorable and the cubs sure too 💖💖💖
He’s the most calming male lion I’ve seen around cubs
00:35 just out in the neighborhood walking my cat
The lioness is my mom when i dont study😂
.....this has got to be one of the most freaking beautiful & majestic looking lions have EVER seen in my life!!!!!
Best looking lion I've ever seen he's gorgeous
I like how they use a leash lmao, like they could stop it if he wanted to run
Man thinks he's stronger than a lion
@@candicealexander7910 you are stupid af seriously lol, its just to guide, he obviously doesnt think he is stronger than him

Cubs: PoPPA...PoPPA...PoPPA.PoPPAPoPPA
Poppa: The hell did I create!
What a beautiful lion 🦁! He seems to be a very nice guy. He is being super tolerant of his boisterous offspring. I like how he got on the rock. He is trying to get away from the kids.
Wish those handlers and lions the best. Very inspiring seeing them do what they do.
He has to be one of the most beautiful lions i have ever seen, such a beautiful temperament for now😘
THE DAD LIKE...."NOT THR HAIR"...."NOT THE HAIR"😂😂😂(PRICELESS)
Damn he’s a beastly looking cat, offcourse beautiful as always.
damn he is so relaxed! I feel like i could ride him and he would be totally cool with it. Also very weird to see lions with snow on the ground.
There are lions who live in snow, Barbary Lions, Moroccan Lions, White Lions...
Beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing!
0:17 got me thinking about what the lion movements was saying like... “Don’t be comin in here waking me up wit your hot breath and all that touching”😂
Kinda sad that this lion on a leash is more we’ll behaved than my own dog 😔
Time to work on retraining your dog, or put him in obedience training classes! You'll both be happier when he's calm and listens!
He’s gorgeous! 🥰 all of these lions are!
No matter the size or breed, all cats act exactly alike.
That male lion knows their his cubs and is fascinated by it.
Such beautiful, majestic animals...and to let you guys near them...WOW!
That's a beautiful male lion
