    Great shot of the pole being pulled into the hole. Pretty amusing. Had more going on than you could handle. The fish were definitely winning the early rounds.

    Great video mate, watching the clip here in Australia now its summer and 39°c (102°f) helps cool things cool down!

    Dude, you were getting destroyed there for a while. My favorite was the loose pole you left sitting there, and down she went, lol Looks like it paid off big time in the end though. I wish we had fish like that ice fishing where I live.

    that rod going down the hole reminded me of the time when I was little and we had a tip up set only 15 feet from where we were jigging and when the tip up flag went up we raced over to it. then when we started pulling in the "fish" we thought it was a small one and was foul hooked cause it wasn't fighting back but we felt resistance. we get it it pulled in and we find my dads rod on the other end!

    That set up with the little poles seems like a bad system to me, I use small 28" ice fishing rods with reels, a lot easier to real in your catch with the drag set just right.Just my opinion!

      @alexisespino8951 10 років тому +6

      Brian thibodeau you're an idiot, I meant the way you have to catch fish while you're ice fishing, I live in texas, and I use a bigger rod, plus I'm not limited to just a small hole in the ground/ice, I should've been more specific, I always forget there's bitches like you on youtube.

    • @ChadJAndersonFish
      @ChadJAndersonFish 10 років тому +2

      that is NOT the way to catch fish through the ice, many wrong things done in this video, but its having fun that counts, this guys is way under-equipped though. Pike are mostly ice fished with tip-ups or rod & reel combos made for the ice, shorter/smaller than a summer rod, I live and fish in Minnesota, don't think I have ever see someone pike fish with 2 jiggle sticks lol, he would NEVER land a very large fish on that gear.

    @sppoC 10 років тому +8

    I'm not trying to be a jerk but if you allow a fish to take the rod in the water you probably should consider only using one rod. I hate to know that a fish is dragging around a rod until it probably dies because of it.

    • @JoeandZachSurvival
      @JoeandZachSurvival  10 років тому +1

      Daniel Copps its part of the game, plenty of people have lost fishing poles this same way. you are legally allowed 2 rods per person and that is exactly how we fish, if you ice fish enough you may lose a rod as well.

      That fish is crippled by having to drag a rod behind it for a very long time (the rest of it's life if you used stainless hooks). Any fisherman worth his own will hold the health of the fish in highest regard.

    Fun videos, classic old school jig stick action. Love the double bobber set up. The rod going down one hole while trying to catch one in the other hole is priceless footage. I have been to "the lake" several times, fun panfish lake. I never really gave much attention to the pike, but maybe I will next time I'm out there. Good video for the non-ice fisherman to just see what it's all about.

    Ice fishing, to me is more fun than summer time fishing. Waiting for those flags and making a dash for the hole watching that spindle with the line flying off, then set the hook and feel the tension as you pull your catch through the ice. That is something the summer just doesn't have. Then I like to go outside and cook my fish and potatoes , a nice cool one, good as it gets.

  • @misesmedicine

    Dude....wtf. Seriously, invest in some tipups with 40lb bankline and a 20lb leader. Forget the bobbers. Pike are not genius fish, they'll bite a bait tied to 550 paracord if it looks tasty.

The next weekend some people we knew were fishing in a fish house maybe 50 feet away from where mine was (it was not a portable at that time) they caught a fish and attached to it was Sara's pole she lost. She is 26 now and that pole sits on my fireplace mantel. Thank you for the nice comment. Joe

    Thanks for the great video! Those were some beautiful fish and even more beautiful after being fired!! Sorry abut the pole, but when you get a fish biting, the blood starts to flow and things get excited. One good point, you knew the fish was biting in both holes!! Take care friend and may GOD bless you and your family always. Hope you make some more f these videos!!

    I am an avid hard water angler. Really enjoyed your video. Hilarious when your rod flew down the hole. Not that you lost the gear, only that things were going crazy on you and it was basically a no brainer that was inevitable. Lol. Love all your videos. True outdoorsman. Keep up the good work.

      +Marcy Mawn To be fair, ice fishing is normally done in cold remote areas. Fishing for his dinner is justified.

      +Jaki あほ no I thought it was in the mid summer. could atleast club them over the head instead of letting them sit to there deaths. I beat the fuck out a lot of anglers for that bullshit. there scum.

      Marcy Mawn don't they survive out of water for hours?

      +Jaki あほ no brother there a very fragile fish along with muskie. have to be delicate especially with the larger ones.

      Marcy Mawn ah fair enough then. I'm used to more common warmer water fish which are a lot tougher by the sounds of it.

    This is the slickest fishing video share, the editing and camera work keeps it moving through all the fun and frustration. Other fisherman agree. Of course we're all from the Pacific Northwest, not much ice fishin, but fish on ! Is the same all over the world

    Hi love ur ice vids 1 tip if u don't want the minnow to take a bobber down just take a sharp knife and trim the tail to where there is just a little bit of tail left so the minnow can swim around

    Set up a reel that is suspended above the hole from overhead with fly casting line that is tangle free, with a leader of monofilament 3 feet long at the bottom. Use a large, single bobber that clips onto the fly casting line. You get a better hand hold on the fly casting line than the monofilament so you can set your hook better. Consider using a lure with treble hooks for northerns as well. Swedish Pimple lures work well for this. The benefit of having the lines suspended over the holes is if you get two fish on at the same time, you can just let the other line wait while you reel in the first one. Back when I lived in MN, I lost a pole like that to a large sunfish when they were really biting and since the lake ice was clear with no snow on it I was able to spot the pole, and drill a hole to retrieve the pole. The fish was still on!
