I appreciate a lot of the things you guys do, but this is so wrong… first thing, as a service company owner my self giving quotes over the phone is completely off the table. My csr working in the office have no ability to give quotes over the phone because they are NOT PLUMBERS but even if they could you CANNOT give an accurate
estimate over the phone or by looking at pictures… sure you might be able give ball parks but at this point you’re just be misleading your customers and aggravating them even more for “not honouring your price” when it turns out that this “simple toilet install” ended up having to replace a cracked toilet flange and rebuild the sub floor around it because you never got eyes on it in the first place. Customers get a lot more value out of a service company coming to their homes for a line of site inspection anywhere between $50-$99 not $200...Give them a list of options for what’s best for them and their home and let them decide! There’s no obligation to do any work… This is spreading misinformation, every reputable service companies charge a call out fee to come out to customers home, even consumers would agree with this

I see where you are coming from. But I still think it’s easy enough to give them the ball park to complete the job with letting them know that things can happen. If you give them full transparency and let them know ahead of time that there could be extra stuff involved. They will respect it a lot more when it happens. We generally give people the worst case scenario and when it works out to be better we look like heroes. I have quoted hundreds of jobs from pictures and videos. Never had an issue. I’ve quoted full renovations from pictures. Do it all the time, I just know what the worst case scenarios will be . And I put in the quote that anything unknown will be extra. I haven’t gone to look at a job in years.
