holy shit dude
did you seriously use every vinyl?
thats some fucking talent
Thank you. This has to be one of the best sampling videos I have ever watched.
+A T Ahad You're welcome!
+A T Ahad #INDEED
+A T Ahad check out 'Rhythm Roulette' on UA-cam. Very similar concept. Buy vinyl, make beat. I think you will like that.
Thanks. I love that show
Look up “9th Wonder Rhythm Roulette”... you’re welcome
This Video is awesome, so inspiring and motivating to create new music. The possibilities are endless and the limits are only set by your own creativity. Thank you guys for constantly uploading amazing and inspiring videos. You have no idea how much you help encourage new creations and artists around the world. Thank you PB
At 1:35 he holds a record by Bruno Spoerri. Timbaland produced a track called versus for Jay z and it actually has in it a sample used without without permission from this exact LP shown here. The Jay z track is called "versus" and he used a sample from a Bruno Spoerri track called "On The Way".Jay z agreed to split royalties with Spoerri.
as i recall, spoerri sued jay z and got left with something round 10`000$. wouldnt really call that agreeing on splitting royalities :)
Glad to see this art form is still being taught. You're an amazing instructor dude.
+Ski Oakenfull you need to make a second edition of this. almost two years. would be so great, i learned so much from you doing this!
I used to buy records from Hon before he had the shop it was at the back of a warehouse space round the corner. You'd have to walk through the kitchen whilst the tenants were eating their breakfast :D Top vinyl Pimp!
I've learnt more watching this than half a dozen other attempts at teaching sampling in ableton. Spot on.
Ski - thank you for doing this. You make it look piss easy. The second I remotely think about trying this, my head hurts :( Keep up the good work! If only I could afford an online course - these videos are brilliant...
THIS IS THE BEST SAMPLING TUTORIAL FOR ABLETON THAT I HAVE SEEN IN UA-cam!
thank you very much!
Awesome video! No hidden knowledge, but very straightforward and practical suggestions...30 minutes of actual content, not the usual "blah....*click*...blah....*click*..." that goes on for 30 minutes and that you just wish you hadn't watched.
I really thought Maschine was better at sampling than Ableton, but I dunno now. this was sick, Ski man, you're a pro
azfiu Yea, like you I was thinking the same and about to purchase the Studio 2.0 but after watching this...hmmm....
***** what a great series that is, thanks for tipping me off to that man!
+azfiu if your looking for a good way to sample. Try ableton live paired with an MPD. an mpd 18 is 100$ and it works great. as far as the software goes you can buy it or torrent it ether way happy beat making.
+azfiu ableton is way more flexible than machine i have both machine and ableton so from my experience i say ableton is overall better than machine except machine has a sick library of sounds but if you combine them both its a sick set up and you can do so much more
Great tutorial and great taste in music! The whole process with Live and Push instead of an mpc represents a true innovation of the old school way. Quicker and more effective. Thx alot
Appreciate the in depth scenery. Appreciated here in july 8th 2021
My Push 2 just arrived yesterday, and this was an utter revelation. I guess now I need a record player! Well done.
Great walkthrough, thanks for sharing - very helpful
Thank you this is the inspiration and direction many of us need!
WOW MAN. INCREDIBLE SAMPLING TECHNIQUES. THANK YOU
that was dope one of the best tutorials I've ever seen thanks
Absolutely incredible.
Absolutely amazing genius work! Thank you Ski! I love everything about this video: the beat, the creativity, the technique with Ableton and Push, etc! Wow!
I had no idea John Oliver was so talented.
And funny
Thanks a lot, very inspiring
Can't watch this for like, 1 minute without itching to make beats!
Ya! Ya! Yah...
I watched it at my commute with no gear around!
It was like watching porn without touching yourself !!!!!
me too
One of my favorite tutorials!!!
Thank you for this.
All the pointblank/ski videos are great. thanks
This was awesome! Not only really instructive but thoroughly entertaining at the same time
this looks like so much fun
Ski , your a beast with ableton and push! Learning a lot from these vids. Very informative. Like your work flow.
Man this was DEFINITELY very inspirational. It would be nice to see more videos from either Ski or other producers. Dope!!!
Very inspiring vid. I have been loving this channel since I discovered it six months ago. This particular episode is fantastic. You guys have come onto something here, and I would love to see this challenge put to some more of your instructors to see what they would do as well. Never the less, great job Ski! I believe I just might get myself a turntable tomorrow...Cheers.
this is one of the coolest things I've seen in a while
So glad i just rewatched this. I still have the push 1.
I knew the video was gonna be good when I heard the foxy brown sample, then it turned great when he transposed the other sample. Amazing Video. Been learning how to sample vinyl and this was a great tutorial, Thank You 👍🏾.
That Foxy Brown hooked me and reeled me right in too....
This what DJs should do period!
This was awesome! More videos like this would be great.
this man is so awersome
Great job !
This is absolutely incredible! Thank you!!
Thanks a stack Ski for this great video. It answered so many questions for me. I appreciate your time. You taste is great.
Excellent video
Great stuff
Amazing !!!!
I've said it before....Ski's a genius!
kept watching just because of clutchy's intro song
Awsum video thanks ski great inspiration
You probably already know this but @24:59 - instead of having to put 4 new points in on the envelope and dragging the middle section down, you can just highlight a section and drag the envelope up or down and it will automatically do that for you. It's basically what's happening a little earlier too at 24:56 because you have the whole clip highlighted and so clicking and dragging will move the whole envelope.
Drove me mad for a while trying to figure out why sometimes I was dragging points, and other times the whole thing would move :)
So incredible!
so much fun
Anyone who enjoyed this and is new to sampling should look up the Rhythm Roulette series on UA-cam, some stinkers get made in it when the producers don't put effort in, but lots of inspiration there especially from the oldschool people
Huge inspiration right here.
That last sample was the best. Reminds me Come Clean from Jeru the Damaja.
simply brilliant
Got my Mk3 keyboard and a keypad.... just the beginning of learning Ableton..This is very inspiring. Been dreaming of this for years....I'm not a musician little experience with piano....I'm a choir singer with a gifted ear...more a parot than a music reader. I can't sight read though I've been taught a few times...it never sticks. This should be fun and a challenge.
Thank you for your amazing work.
omg! this guy is a gran master at this!
This was a lot of fun to watch, thanks!
Woa so cool! Love it!
fabolous has a song sampling at 3:55 called let you go i believe soon as i heard that guitar hit me like a rock
Top class, cracking video, long live the vinyl
This was an awesome tutorial man, so straight forward, and simple, ive got a little Numark PT1 scratch i think its called, going to rifle some samples into ableton and maybe use some of the Maschine MK3 capability for playing as i dont have a push. So awesome.
You're my hero Ski, maybe is not as random as it seems,
but you're a genius anyway !!
These Top 4 and 5 year old conversation made me subscribe... lol This was really helpful for an idea I had. and a really funny insight...Thank you.
how the hell did u identify the key using the piano??? that was crazy lol
you should probably learn some theory lol
The classical composer Manuel de Falla has his surname pronounced like 'Fire'. He wrote great pieces. Ski manipulates some awesome tracks - so inspirational! Thank you for showing us the methods. What about the royalties though - don't you have to keep a tally of the artists and apply to their record companies for permission to use them or is that only if you intend to release the tracks commercially..(though this is public broadcasting..)
This is awesome! Very creative use of samples.
Fantastic!
i love it - awesome job Ski! I am a big fan of your tutorials ! learned a lot and always get excited when i see a new video popping up here ! all the best and some more sampling tutorials would be fun ;)
hahaha!! Wow... simply TERRIFIC once again Ski!!
Very inspiring PLEASE DO MORE!
Awesome stuff
Such a nice vinyl selection... In my area, its polka and country. Just TRY remixing that or sampling it good. Doesn't usually happen.. :P
Brilliant video. Thanks for this.
Omg!!!! This was so dope. Cant afford push 2 yet, but i just got the 1, and this was helpful. Cheers!
Very cool ***** - a nice twist on the usual beatmaking vids.
That was fascinating to watch , great job.
GREAT COMBINATION
Now thats a great tutorial right there! Hell yeah
This is dope!!! Luv it and I agree with some of the guys up in here....this is what dj's are supposed to be doing to graduate from blending. Is time to create!!! and sell your shit.
I know this is an older video but thank you Ski!
It looks so easy! Really good tutorial thank you!
Excellent.
un abrazoooooo eres un ser de luzzzzzzzzzzzz thank my lord
thank you immensely for the inspiration... magnificent
Thats really cool. Look forward to trying this out . thank you
This method just gave me so many ideas, I just need a vinyl player to connect to Ableton!
I must have a look through my approximately 10,000 vinyl's in my loft. I'm sure I could find a few gem samples in there.
Great video to inspire my juices mate 👍
That was awesome.
. this is how we all used to do it with ensoniqs and emu's not ableton.. vinyl and even cassettes , VHS videos of movies and anything we could get our hands on for samples
One thing I think should be clarified, is when you go sit down to get all the samples out of the records, do all that work first, well ahead of time, that way when you sit down to actually work on the track you don't lose your creativity, by sitting there for too long, doing the work of getting your samples off the records. It seems like it's just a quick short process, but the fact is is when you sit down to actually make that track and you have the creative spark to do it, you really want to have nothing to do but produce.
Get it SKI!
Too good
wow! just an excellent tut.
Way cool! inspired now to also record various sounds and craft effects
what's that at 3:51 ?
nooo idea but i want to know so bad >_
Not the same as a record shop, but you could also try downloading some DJ remix packs. Where a whole song has been split up into it's individual instruments, vocals, etc.
amazing ski !!
Great tutorial! Please do more like this.
Unless they redid this vid they edited out him farting. In the one I saw before as he stud up he ripped a wet one and he had to hold back laughing.
Loved it, great inspiration!
Ski is the best
love it! thanks for sharing
