E53 X5 Cargo Cover Upgrade! (Facelift Conversion)

- Today, we're installing the facelift (or LCI) cargo cover on my 2003 X5! My car is pre-facelift, so the cover uses some gears that tend to break, whereas the newer models came with a better design. We can retrofit the 2004-2006 cargo cover on earlier models with only slight modification, and the required trim pieces from the facelift X5's.

Philips screws? WTF, BMW, make up yer damn mind. Everything I've seen on my E53 has been torx aside from that one f'ing M5 allen bolt holding the driver door lock cylinder in place. Ugh. I *hate* philips screws.

You did a good job, the new parts that you installed belong to which model and what is the year of manufacture?

Most people do, its insane to me as well haha! He bought that used not that long ago though, that dirt came from the PO!

Hey BB, Hoping you can point me in the right direction. My X5 E53 is completely dead. No power, had to manually unlock door to get in an pop cabin door to access battery. Battery is completely fine, but there is no electricity at all. Any ideas as to where I can start? Thank you!
I personally think pre facelift is way too much better than the second one, the prefacelift is stronger , instead of replacing it you could have repaired or improved the gears rack or used the lci shades if they fit
Cool upgrade!
The lifting strap for the spare wheel locks into the lower tailgate while closed. There should be a plastic locking arm that you use when you open the tailgate with the spare wheel holder attached. Its so cool 🤩
As a detail, the loading sill cover comes better off if you dont remove the turning part, just turn it while you take the screws off, it's easier. And metal brackets on the sides are bit different, you need to saw off like 2cm pieces off them so the plastic vent louver parts fit perfectly, and also drill those 3 holes. But those holes angle up on the same level as original ones if you do the cut because then it does not stay twisting the plastic part on it's place.Easier probably to just get those metal brackets too before starting so you don't need to modify them. With all else this guide matches.
