Just experienced this to an extent. Tried to plan a guys trip for a weekend just to go fishing or camping. Maybe some boating down a river in the state I live. Everyone started trying to bring all their wives and kids. Made it very clear it was going to be a guys trip only. Nobody was interested. They couldn't make it happen and acted like it would be a logistical nightmare. This was planned for the spring/summer of 2023 btw. Not like a month out. My wife and her friends can plan an all girls weekend in 5 min and make that sh** happen. Mine....not so much.

Sometimes you just have to get in the car, catch the flight, and go where ever you desire on your own. And let me tell you those have been the best trips for me personally. It sorta forces you to meet new people and experience things from their perspective. I don't wait on flaky friends or family.

I would also recommend traveling alone from time to time. Don’t get me wrong traveling with your homies is an experience you’ll never forget, but sometimes being alone in a foreign place is an extremely eye opening experience. Everything around you is more meaningful and personal when your alone. Instead of worrying about impressing or pleasing your friends you focus on enjoying yourself instead

This is exactly what happened to me last year lol. I invited my friends months in advance to go to London and they were all on board I gave them all the info they needed so they would know how much it was going to be and they were still down to go but when the time came one by one they all made lame excuses on why they couldn’t go but I still went ahead and had a great time by myself.
The Lesson: next time I’m planning a trip the only people I’m inviting with me is me, myself, and I at least I know they for sure won’t cancel at the last minute lol.
I travel alone all the time and it’s way better. Go at your own pace, eat what you want, meet more people. Not everyone has that spirit of adventure
So annoying when they flake last minute. Especially when they know the whole time they aren't gonna go. Like at least give a heads up lol

The group I went to France with actually did follow through, like to the point where 4 of us had our lodgings paid for for 2 weeks at only a few hundred bucks each. We each bought our own plane ticket, which I only could do bc tax money had just dropped and I had some money put back anyway, and then it was a matter of saving every penny until the day of. It helps that at least one friend likes to imagine that she's super bougie, even if she's not.

I had the same problem in the Navy. We'd make big plans to do stuff, pull into Malta, everyone ran for the closest bar and that was pretty much it for three straight days. I never saw anything interesting in Europe.

Depends on where you live. If you're close to NYC or Chicago, you can find round-trip flights to Europe for under $500 pretty often. If you're West Coast or not near a big city then yeah it's gonna be hella expensive.
(Or if you live in Europe then you can fly all over the continent for cheap)
Anything overseas and actually cool (Europe, Greece, Tokyo, etc) is $1,000 just for the plane ticket bro. Add housing, food, transportation, leisure/gifts/clothing/souvenirs, events and nightlife = $2k easily. Most of us don't have $2,000+ lying around :/
And if you go as a group, it’s so much cheaper. People will go out every weekend and get a section, bottles, etc. But can’t save $1,000 for an incredible, indescribable experience
