For like hundreds of videos now we’ve been talking about specific designers and manufacturers. We’ve given you introductions to megastars like Hans Wegner and Finn Juhl, and we’ve visited companies like Swedese and OH Sjögren to show you how high quality furniture are made. But today it’s time to go back to the basics. Our UA-cam channel is called Scandinavian Design 101, but what is Scandinavian design? At first it seems like a quite simple question to answer, but it turns out it’s more complicated than that.

it's popular because IKEA 😂
that's it
For some reason... Because Skånelandene was once Danish and being part of The Scandinavian Peninsula. Now they are swedish. That is why DK is part of Scandinavia 🙄
Great video! What are your thoughts about newer Scandinavian designers like Kasper Salto, Cecile Manz and Thomas Sandell? Are they worthy heirs to Arne Jacobsen, Hans J Wegner and Finn Juhl?
Great video, Quite complete, Some of the background picture gave me a few ideas for shelving. I make them in steel, with wooden accents. But I say...I think many people say it... "If it looks right it must be right.
Yeah, that's true...
it's so interesting how in Scandinavia if you ask designers or people interested in design what Scandinavian design is. they always like you tell about what north Americans refer to as mid-century modern, where as when North Americans tell about Scandinavian design they tend to completely forget that part and talk about 2 different styles mid-century or Scandinavian-for us Scandinavian you can't split the two like that because everything about design in Scandinavia is linked, evolved from and mixed with those early pieces
This is so true! It's impossible to split the two styles, because they're soo dependent on each other.
Really excellent video, good holistic information to better understand Scandinavian design.
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Thank you.
Thank you for all this information - so helpful (btw, it's snowing today in Minnesota, USA)🥰
Finally the snow just melted away and the spring is coming here in Sweden.
