It's important that new authors realize that becoming an author is not a good way to make money. You'll make more starting a bad garage band. I write because I love it. My income is negative, no, I'm not joking. I'll spend thousands of dollars editing, creating covers, advertising... and I'll bring in a small fraction of that. From what I've heard, this is pretty typical for new authors. Until (and unless) you get a fan base, you can expect to be broke. Even then, you're not going to make enough money to support yourself without another job.
Unless you get really, REALLY lucky, it's so hard to make it a full time career. There are authors out there that do it, and probably more than we realize, but you also have to factor in your own cost of living and lifestyle, whether you have a partner's insurance to go on, backup funds, and so many other aspects of what it means to be self employed.
Hi just stopping by to say good job and keep going! I love to see people try and I hope you reach all of your goals! Writing and publishing two books is already a huge HUGE achievement! So many people just dream of ever writing one and never do. So well done!
Thanks for being honest with your royalties. Many of us indie authors don't earn large amounts of money. Its hard work promoting your books and costs money.
I didn’t know that about August! Do you happen to know the “good months” for sales? Also I adore your videos and always appreciate the time you put into telling us about sale ♥️🙏🏻
Thanks so much!! January/ February tend to be a good one because people will buy the books they didn't get for christmas or are redeeming gift cards. Last year for me, October was pretty good, and other people seem to back that up because it's starting to get colder and people want to stay inside more.
@@JadeJuniiper of course! Also, as far as days of the week, try to avoid releasing a book on a Tuesday. It's when the big 5 publishers release their books so it's less likely yours would get seen.
It gets better as you keep writing. You'll find success and make lots of money. You'll marry a millionaire or a millonaress and live happily ever after. Wow, this story-writing stuff isn't so difficult after all. Keep writing though, you never know.
I do organic social media marketing. I do have a video on my page about all the marketing I do, but I don't pay for any ads. I know there's a possibility that could help, but there are just months where it's slower.
You wrote the whole trilogy in 4 months!? Congrats, that's hard! When I feel bad about my writing, it usually means I need to take some time away from it or get someone else's perspective.
That's seriously incredible!! If you're looking for feedback, try alpha or beta readers on Facebook/ Reddit or someone who would swap stories and give feedback for free. I also didn't pay for an editor, but any kind of feedback really helped me find the weak spots in my manuscripts.
Good thing I’m just doing it for fun and choosing to share the journey. I did plan on releasing two this year but ya know.. working that full time marketing job kinda gets in the way 🙃
Reading your first book. Enjoying it a lot. Great channel you've got. Subscribed.
Thank you, I'm so glad you're liking it!

So true! And it takes a LOT of time and energy to market if you don't want to spend money.
I have many income streams for exactly this reason!
It's so important to not just rely on one!
@@itslindseeey my latest video is about this exact thing!
I’ll check it out!
Love these transparent videos and look up to you!
Glad you like them! Thanks so much!
your book covers are so nice though

Wow a whole short story in second person, not an easy feat.

Do you do any marketing; any Amazon ads?

I have a trilogy written in 4 months. But now the insecurities come in like a dark cloud.

@@itslindseeey Yeah I tried doing 1 chapter a day. I have no editor nor can I pay one and that’s where I feel too anxious to publish.

@@Salty-French-fry a trilogy in four months is insane! if you love it someone else would surely love it too.
@@Shroudspawn Thank you, I’m having a short break from it and I’ll keep on writing. I get so many ideas daily.
you had two releases last year, and now you have for this year zero books. Thought you were in marketing? You know you can't be doin that.
Good thing I’m just doing it for fun and choosing to share the journey. I did plan on releasing two this year but ya know.. working that full time marketing job kinda gets in the way 🙃
Tip for next time: Don't use real people on covers (It's an imediate no for many people (including me) no matter how good the book is)

@@itslindseeey lmao I guess it's a common complaint 😂
I like people on book covers and hate the cartoon book covers you see all the time these days. I think it depends on the person.
