Since 2014 a replacement for the MiG-31 has been considered by Russia, but even today, little is known about the interceptor
On January 22, Rostec, a Russian state-owned technology company, published an article in which it praised the MiG-31 fighter, one of the few fighter planes capable of flying close to Mach 3. Veteran, the aircraft is undergoing a modernization that will keep it in service in the air force until 2030.

The Mig-31 Foxhound is a beautiful aircraft, I want it to remain operational for many more decades, and never need to be replaced from the mig-41.
Sadly, everything needs to be upgraded, replaced, modernized sooner or later due to technology advancements. Nothing last forever, including us humans…

@Zebedeu The Su-57 program cost about 10-11 billion dollars. The Russians are working slowly and smartly without haste. No one saw or heard of the Su-75 while the Russians suddenly showed it, it seems that little information is leaking from Russia. The MiG 41 will be a big aircraft, maybe even bigger than the MiG-31. The speed of Mach 4 is not so terrible because it will fly in the stratosphere (MiG-31 regularly flew at 25,000 m). Even the current MiG-31BM could fly 3.2-3.5 Mach with new engines. The old Soloviev D-30F6 has 152 kN of thrust while the newer engines can easily develop 170 kN even more. So the MiG 31 is a great platform for the MiG 41. Everything can be tested on the MiG-31, from engines, electronics, weapons, radar, automation and everything else.

that image at 0:48 leaves only one detail left to imagination: below the front of the single-seat cockpit, and the IR camera atop the nose, is a pouch, that's hanging there...could be another camera, for sensing ground targets, missiles etc. could be a laser, to jam incoming missiles, or aircraft. could just be a random pouch. in this day-and-age, nothing is random. it could be a 10kW laser.

I have to say. Vladimir Putin is a heck of a guy. He runs strong this massive Country and despite all the political or economical treats against Russia, he still manages to continue building a strong and technological advanced Army. I don't know who else could do this kind of work there and also be the Chairman of Russia Mafia around the globe. KGB did good for him.

It's going to have to be big if it's to carry long range air to air missiles like the R-37 internally. About the same size as the MiG-31, which is much larger than most of the aircraft concept art shown here. Basically, it needs to be stealthy, carry internal weapons, have supercruise ability, a somewhat higher top speed, and the latest electronics. It's not going to be some Mach 4 monster, just a spec bump on the current platform's range and speed, with stealth and modern sensors.

I believe, the Russians can make a long-range, exceptionally fast and maybe even stealthy aircraft. But the space-flying part is still a pipe dream. You need a non air breathing engine for that, and that means carrying an "oxidizer", additional to fuel. which, if even possible, reduces weapon bay size to nearly zero. And thrusters everywhere, to maneuver in space (which reduces stealth). So yeah, i say, High altitude, high supersonic. About range, or payload? one can only guess. But i am very curious about it.

They will have to build it anyway if they are planning to compete with west. It will have to be fast and fly in space, a long range heavily armed interceptor to stop American spacecrafts (i.e Aurora, SR-72 & ...) They also need a heavily armed and long range bomber which will let them to counter attack in case of a massive night stealth strike that will serious damage their strategic infrastructures. If they are not planning to negotiate, they will need strong numbers of aircrafts and not some experimental prototypes.

Malfunctions more than manned aircraft, more expensive to create and more expensive to buy and it won't be any threat for aviators.
Global Hawk is an example, an SURVEILLANCE DRONE only costing over 200 million dollars.
It's expenses and maintenance grows through the time as it needs to be serviced and updated.
Not just military but civilian robotics and machines.

Im gonna disagree with you there, more expansive to create sure, developing such a system is expansive but once its made its cheaper then needing to train new and maintain pilots while you can just copy the code.
And its not really more expansive to buy either, modern fighters already have plenty of sensors for the pilot, these same sensors can be used for an ai.
And an unmanned jet can manouver far better and longer since it doesn't have a squishy human inside with G-force limits.
It all comes down to creating a ai that is more skilled then regular pilots, wich showing what ai already can do i have no doubts that such a system can be created in the near future.

Money is the reason it hasn’t shown up yet. The Su-57 is being produced in small numbers, because Russia doesn’t have a lot of capital due to ever increasing sanctions. Even with burgeoning exports of older aircraft to India and others, they don’t have the gdp to produce them.

Russia has enough problems without devaluing its currency further than it has.

I was thinking of a combination turbo-jet/ram jet before they mentioned it. Final design of long range missiles and an advanced radar definitely sounds more feasible. It also sounds more like a typical boring plane.
