- The issue of Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio took centre stage at one point during Tuesday’s U.S. vice presidential candidates debate, with the debate becoming so contentious that at one point moderators were forced to turn off the microphones of both Republican JD Vance, and Democrat Tim Walz.
Springfield, Ohio, dealt with bomb threats for two straight days in September after the city was catapulted into the international spotlight when former president Donald Trump pushed a narrative, without evidence, about Haitian migrants during a presidential debate with Vice-President Kamala Harris.
Vance refrained from pushing the pet-eating claim during Tuesday’s debate, but he doubled down on allegations that “illegal immigrants” are overwhelming Springfield’s infrastructure. That prompted a retort from the debate moderator.
“Just to clarify for our viewers, Springfield, Ohio, does have a large number of Haitian migrants who have legal status, temporary protected status,” CBS moderator Margaret Brennan said.
Vance immediately protested the interjection.
“Margaret, the rules were that you weren’t going to fact check,” he said, kicking off a fracas which eventually saw both candidates have their microphones muted by the debate moderators.

You know it's sad that people think Vance won here. The standards have been so low with Trump the past 8+ years that having someone who can actually discuss policy (even if he's lying) is so amazing to them that it outshines anything that is actually being said by either side.

Legally By Law Contracts signed there was to be no live fact✅'ing during the debate. What these women did wasn't just unethical&disingenuous by Law it was technicallyIllegal. I hope they lose their jobs or at the very least get fined into obscurity for being so fast and loose with corporate law. Also, they fact✅'ed him out of context. Something you can hear for yourself as he did just manage to finish his answer before they cut him off.

You can say it was a breach of contract, argue it's illegal, but to say he should have the right by ANY moral standard to espouse baseless accusations that endanger that community the way he has been doing is disgusting.

Walz is being controlled by someone since he miraculously tweeted while on stage.
It's not uncommon for someone else to run a political figure/celebrity's social media accounts. It could likely have been a tweet from whoever was hired to handle their account.

Vance and walz were to fact check each other and the moderators were not supposed to insert their opinion.
So why did the moderators choose to fact check only one side once again, even when it was decided by both parties not to do so beforehand.
