Also didn't love "You Are Having A Good Time." Not sure if it went over my head or what but it was also a 23 for 23 for me. Loved Trevor Noah's memoir, listened to it years ago on audiobook. Great video!
I read Anna Karenina also in December, & was underwhelmed by it & didn't think much of Levin. I was so angry by the ending. Just skim over a tragic event to go to Levin's existential crisis.
your love for the Lord of the Rings trilogy is infectious! And the same with Curtis Sittenfeld. I love it when we fall in love with a specific author’s writing. I feel the same about Anita Brookner. People Collide was that under the radar nuanced gem. I found myself enjoying the story and the writing although I wouldn’t ordinarily read a body swapping premise!
Definitely do read lotr! It’s not one to be missed. Do try sittenfeld when you’re feeling like a silly little romantic romp. I’ve never read brookner before! With what should I start?? I absolutely wouldn’t have ever heard of/picked up people collide if not for booktube and for that im so grateful for this little community!! 🤗
I read Romantic Comedy and loved it. As far as Brookner, they’re interesting ones. It’s a mood…you enter into where not much happens. It’s the interior experience & the stifling of it. I can hardly tell one from the other, but my favorite I think so far is …oh I’ve gotta look it up
I did read Romantic Comedy and really enjoyed it. And a short story collection awhile ago. Brookner…most people would say Hotel du Lac. It’s a good start. I really like Look At Me a lot. It’s all about the interior experience with Brookner and the stifling of it.
I personally enjoy Alan Bennett’s stories but they are probably the weakest of his writing. He’s known as a playwright first and foremost and I think that’s his strong suit. His writing for the stage and television is the best of his writing and make the stories feel very insignificant to me. I’ve never understood why The Uncommon Reader has become so popular when he has so much more to offer. That my two cents on him (hoping you might give him another try?🤞)

Thanks Anna! Sometimes books are just neither here nor there not good not bad and that’s when it’s probably a “not for me” 🤷🏻♀️

omg Naked was my gateway into Sedaris and totes agree i think both this and Me Talk Pretty One Day are perfect ways to get into Sedaris.
I read "Holidays on Ice" and hated it. Ranks as my worst book of 2023. I am concerned that all of Sedaris is like that.
@@kurtfox4944yes all of sedaris is like that and holidays on ice i read last yr as well and loved it found it v funny and satirical

I remember watching “the history boys” (film) back in the 00s and really liking it! If I find the play at a used bookstore I’ll give that a go.
