For real when he said that it validated JID's talent and his high status to me personally cause I feel he will blow up soon cause of his drive and talent mixed with Cole's direction he's headed to the top
As a huge Dreamville fan..I still TRY to be objective...and I must say, Cole KILT (killed) this shit lmao. I loved hearing the versatility in that flow. To me, a lot of young ppl are mesmerized by fast rappin & punchlines...but typically they’re both still actually saying something of substance Lol. To me, This was just a fun track....this was light work to them. But i agree with both of your reviews on this! Can y’all review Bas-Purge and/or Bas-Tribe feat. Cole? Please and thank u!
@@jashnasalvi493 haha I'm super keen for the album too but between this, Anderson's album soon and fallout 76 this whole month feels like Christmas (Dec 25)
Ryan's right. Bangers and fun songs are needed. Like we all know people like JID and Joyner can write their ass off. Everyone's gotta be allowed to have fun sometimes.
I definitely had times where I thought conscious rap/any sort of music was all that I could enjoy, so I get it. But man just hearing that something that bangs as hard as this, and has skills that I'm in awe of has become something that is a type of rap I need to have in my life. Like you said, you just gotta let people have fun from time to time. It's hardly gonna stop them coming out with some deeper shit
Y'all should react to The Wiggles - "Big Red Car". They're an Australian band that have been round since the 90s, but they always put out consistently good material. The members have changed a lot (only one original member I think), and while they are good, the original line-up with Greg, Jeff, Murray (best guitarist to come out of Australia) and Anthony is the ultimate line-up. Trailblazers in their genre. "Big Red Car" is a banger, but "Fruit Salad" and "Do The Propeller" (with the new members) are also good choices.
Imma have to agree with Ryan on this one. I feel like JID and Cole goal was to just show skill and entertain the audience who doesn't really care for lyrics. Many rappers have these songs. I don't think "rap heads" would think any less of JID because he still showcased bars. And you gotta appreciate his flow, rhyme scheme, and wordplay no matter what he saying.
I agree. I used to be that elitist dude who thought every single song had to have something of substance but after a while i realized that music doesn't always have to take itself so seriously. Sometimes it's nice to just listen to someone flex their skill on a track, especially if it's a banger that would get me hype or blast in my car.
I think George gets that, he did say that he understands what they were trying to accomplish with this song. I think he meant more that, if this is the song to really shoot JID into stardom, it would be undesirable for him as a listener because this isn't really the type of stuff he wants to hear from him. He appreciates the skill, but songs like these are kind of hollow and the lack of a message isn't really desirable for him as a listener. I also agree with you though, not everything can be a lyrical masterpiece (but George knows this). Back in the 90s, it was also a lot easier to add a message to every song because, simply, not everything had been said yet. But that's what makes modern artists like Kendrick (to continue with the video's example) so special; the ability to write bangers that do contain a message, e.g. DNA, Swimming Pools (even though that ones not about bars), etc.

Music got a lot of purposes I agree. Even in classical music there is music that strictly demonstrates technical ability, this kinda rap is the same thing. But we can also have rap that tells a story, or that empowers people
I love when you guys just start going in after the songs done. So much hip hop knowledge, I learn a lot. You guys have such great personalities, I honestly think you can do a podcast, just talking about hip hip/music, it would be amazing to see something like that. I know I'd listen, and I'm sure many other would too. Keep up the great work homies🙌🏽🙌🏽
George I get what you’re saying man, but I think if you give it 5 more listens and really examine J.I.D’s verse you’ll feel it a lot more. He’s got some great bars but at the same time he’s experimenting with some crazy new flows that nobody has ever gotten into before. I know that y’all can appreciate that and much love to the channel, been a long time subscriber 👌🏻
Trust me, the youth/millennials are not sleeping on these gems in the rap game. We can differentiate between a future goat and decent trendy sounds. JID bringing back the original rap to the new age. We learn songs together (usually on road trips) so we learned “Three Wishes” After that he knew that lyrics and flow were important. He is also one of Cole’s biggest fans now! Lol I mean he still listens to the newer rap style artist, you know, who are really about the beat and not really saying much. It does show how big of a gap there is between those two worlds and this new generation, they don’t appreciate the history and/or artistry of it. So if this song can even begin to wake them up to that....We gone be alright! Lol
This is the most REAL reaction video I have ever watched. George always keeping it 💯 and Ryan's part on playing devils advocate here was perfect. You both made brilliant points.
