I attended the 2013 Indycar race at the speedway, and it was a feast for the eyes to any race fan. The 3-wide racing for the lead, the championship battle that came down to the final 20 laps, and the fact that it was a game of last-man-standing where close to 1/3rd of the original starting field finished the race.
Is it bad that I watch your races in the evening and sometimes feel sleepy? There's something incredibly soothing about a full grid of open wheelers going 220+@WOT for a half an hour. I only get woken up when someone crashes. xD
Honestly I want to get back into iRacing. I'm C oval and D road after 2 years of racing but I've been glued to NR2003 road racing for the last few months. Wat do?
I69Highwayuser I've yet to find a good Indy track that has realistic speeds. It's either too slow and not a lot of grip, or it has too much grip and if you lose and make a sharp turn, you get met with like 200 barrel rolls, especially if you hit the brakes.
Damnit Matt, watching your sim stuff made me go out and buy a G27. Now I'm $200 poorer. Gonna be more once I get some more games to go with it besides just AC.
Sam Stoner I shopped for a used G27, and finally found one for $100, entirely due to Empty Box. He's also costing me a few bucks a month in iRacing... And it's glorious!
Sam Stoner If you find the G27 pedal-feel to be lacking, look into trying some of the GTeye springs. I've got the brake-spring installed and it made huge-difference with heel-toe and braking in general.
MrTURBOJOHN Sometimes drivers will run a wheel offset and part of it is also the asymmetrical tires on the car which cause the car to pull left in a straight line so countersteer to the right is necessary.
Hey, Empty Box. I don't like watching "real-life" racing, I couldn't even give two shits about cars in general, but damn, I watch the whole video every time and I'm entertained. How do you do this? You are basically selling condoms to a nun right now.
Lol, not to sound like the "have you tried" guy, that I have been and I see so many people say... BUT... What are your thoughts on the DW12 Rf2 update?
The result of Indy told me that a NASCAR failure can still win the biggest race in America. Something is wrong with that. These days I don't watch a lot if Indy racing, it just seems to fall short. I wish I was inspired by the open wheel cars like i was as a kid in the 80s. Today I'm interested in Nascar and endurance for the most part. But I'd probably go watch a Porsche Club of America club race before I'd watch most Indy races. I hope they manage to change that somehow though. I miss liking the open wheelers.
InformalGreeting So a guy who came up running open wheel cars, won the CART championship pretty much at it's absolute peak as a rookie, went to F1 and was a proven race winner and could have won the WDC if he had the car to do it, left F1 after a lot of internal politics, went to drive the "entirely different than anything he's ever run" series that is NASCAR, won a few road courses and easily should have won more than a couple oval races - oh, and got Ganassi's Cup operation in the chase is a "failure"? Last I checked, Kyle Larson - you know, one of NASCAR's golden boys - has yet to even win in the 42 JPM was driving. Yet Larson has more experience in those cars than JPM did when he won his first NASCAR race. McMurray may have had more wins, though JPM was often further up the order than his team mate... So yea, not sure how JPM was a NASCAR failure or what that has to do with open wheel racing.
Empty Box I think my comment came out wrong. Montoya is a heck of a racecar driver. But most Americans don't watch open wheel racing at all. They have no knowledge what he did before he showed up in NASCAR and wouldn't be impressed with F1 experience since they know absolutely nothing about the level of drivers in that series. But what they do know is that the guy that showed up with so much hype in NASCAR didn't work out, went back to Indy racing and won the 500. Doesn't do much to impress people. I don't watch enough to know for sure now. But last I paid attention there were a small group of people that had skills and equipment that could win. And that's too bad. But what i think could actually help would be to have a known NASCAR guy make the change, get great equipment, and then be average. You know, a consistent top 10 driver with maybe a win a year or something. That would do more to get interest from average American than anything else.
Good race Matt, I still haven't delved into the Indy car world of iRacing yet!
You should do it. I hear it's a fun car. Then again, you'd likely be the most skilled driver on fixed lobbies.
"I need to get more aggressive."
One lap later: passes three cars in half a lap.
Steven Phillps :)

That driving by #4 at 15:48 Excellent work by him to avoid wrecking! :D

Sai Namuduri Fine by me!
I DO read that line, Matt! ;-)
Loving the iracing videos, keep them coming please
It bothers me that the inside line was the fastest and whenever he had an oppurtunity to go in it he stayed high

Have you tried the DW12 mod for NR2003? Get the tracks at the right grip level and you can have a good time.

Definitely get rfactor2. Its not a very pretty game but the driving itself is the most enjoyable I've experienced

Lol!
As Matt will tell you, GSCE is a great offline game, but nothing compares to the AI from NR2003.

Im still waiting for you to go back racing in Iowa!
I've been to every indy 500 for the past ten years, the past 3 have been the best.
Why is your wheel turned to the right on the straights?
Nice joke)
MrTURBOJOHN Sometimes drivers will run a wheel offset and part of it is also the asymmetrical tires on the car which cause the car to pull left in a straight line so countersteer to the right is necessary.
Михаил Киви You're an idiot...
@GoingLoqo holy shit man what's with the aggressiveness?
MrTURBOJOHN I was on ur side but ok..
Matt is there a good site on the net that explains wheel settings? IE Steering lock, rotation, etc?
still 360p :'(
Why you 360p?

Do you think they will update VIRGINIA international raceway
Buzzing Bark Probably not any time soon sadly.

Which track would you say is your favourite Indycar track? Past or present (eg. Trenton counts).
Iowa, because biased Iowan is biased. :)
Okay... Top five?
Well there's 14 in the carnage report, no surprises there!
2 out of 3 ain't bad. Matt do you listen to Fall Out Boy? Lol.
I am kinda new so what wheel do you use?
Always read the subsciption at the video :)
xXMordokiller98 or Dogchain Logitech Trackball 3000
I wonder if the #1 josh berry is the jr motorsports late model driver
Rory Malloy Probably, like 99% chance.
Pretty cool if it is. BTW I was pulling for Montoya also in the 500
empty box the game is for playstation pc ?
+Javier Cruz PC only.
LoL that Wal-Mart connection that they have
iracing should just disconnect blinkers right away
This was published on my birthday

This feels slow as molasses after the Indy race.
WOOH! 60fps
Please race Detroit next.
need to get a little more agressive: *overtakes 3 cars in a row* *that's how I roll*
