  • Today Monday, September 16 2024 the two heads of state, the President of the Republic of South Sudan, General Salva Kiir Mayadit, and the Chairperson of the Transitional Sovereign Council of Sudan, General Burhan met in Juba. The two heads of state discussed issues of mutual concern of the two countries.
Ramadan Mohammed Abdallah Goc, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said that one of the main issues that was discussed is the resumption of the oil of South Sudan. Everyone knows that South Sudan is a landlocked country and our oil passed through Sudan to the international market. And because of the ongoing war in Sudan, our oil pipeline, the one that passed through the eastern part of the country, was affected.
And then the engineers from the two countries, for the last four months, were working very hard so that the oil resumption could be done. We are very happy that the delegation that came from Sudan, Minister of Petroleum of Sudan, was a member of the delegation. He announced happily that all the team and the technical teams from Sudan reported that all the technical aspects of the resumption were 100% done.
The technical team from South Sudan will go within two weeks to report back to our president all the requirements for the resumption of the oil, the technical part of it, to make sure that they are all in place, then after that, the two countries will announce officially the resumption of the oil. Other issues related to that, the security issues, for what happened not to happen again or to reoccur again, was also discussed and shared, and some agreements were made in that regard so that the oil should continue flowing from South Sudan to the international markets, to Sudan. One of the issues also that we have shared, and our president shared with the chairperson of the Sovereign Council of Sudan, is the role that South Sudan as a country should play or can play in the realization of peace and security in Sudan.
And General Burhan received our efforts and he accepted that South Sudan is more than welcome to play a greater role in the resolution of peace and security in Sudan. We also informed them that the foreign policy of South Sudan allows Sudanese to come to South Sudan without any restriction because we are actually applying an open border policy for the Sudanese to come to South Sudan, those who are fleeing the war from Sudan. Also, according to all the records and the data provided by the United Nations agencies, over 700,000 Sudanese are already within the country here in South Sudan, and other Sudanese also, pass through South Sudan to other neighbouring countries.
