I have 2 nieces. Considering our cultural background (Portuguese-Canadian), I would be very surprised if either of them ever did this. Note to the younger generations, if no one is gifting you for a house warming, first apartment, graduation, etc, then you need better friends and/or better family. The fact that you get a job is not a reason to celebrate considering it is your personal obligation to feed, clothe, and house yourself.
No. This is absurd.
I'm glad I'm not the only one in comments that thinks this is dumb.
Also..."ROI???" Really? They're called GIFTS...
To each their own. I chose to not get married or have kids and I don't regret it, but I think I'd feel mildly insulted if someone threw me a party for it lol
Moe's right 😅
What's a wedding shower? And baby shower? Serious question I'm from the UK
It is very common in Canada and the US. To celebrate the upcoming event (wedding or first baby), there is a party to gift the bride or first time mom with all of the essentials for starting their new role. So a bride would probably get housewares, linens, etc. A first time mom would probably get baby clothes, toiletries and diapers, etc. In fact, very often, attendees might participate in a group gift if the item is expensive or buy from a registry (store or online). I am pretty sure that I have seen this played out in movies.
Silly
This is the dumbest thing ever. It just screams I need attention
