Lyrics below:
Harmful elements in the air
Symbols clashing everywhere
Reaps the fields of rice and reeds
While the population feeds
Junk floats on polluted water
An old custom to sell your daughter
Would you like number twenty three?
Leave your yens on the counter please
Ho-oh, ho-oh-oh-oh
Hong Kong Garden
Ho-oh, ho-oh-oh-oh
Hong Kong Garden
Oh oh, oh oh
Tourists swarm to see your face
Confucius has a puzzling grace
Disoriented you enter in
Unleashing scent of wild jasmine
Slanted eyes meet a new sunrise
A race of bodies small in size
Chicken Chow Mein and Chop Suey
Hong Kong Garden takeaway
La la la, la la la la la
Ho-oh, ho-oh-oh-oh
Hong Kong Garden
Ho-oh, ho-oh-oh-oh

I kissed Siouxsie once in a pub at London Bridge and got her autograph when I was 21. She is still a sort now abs I am 53!
lucky
did you get some of her black lipstick on you
R.I.P Robert my brother, he died Friday, he loved the Banshees, this is the song he used to play in the 80's in his bedroom
Wow,How old are u?
He's in a good place now, and we all will met him and everyone Else :))
This made me sad
Bless his soul
Qu'il repose en paix !
She taught Morrissey to dance!!! Epic👍
She should taught him how to not be NeoNazi lol
Siouxsie was simply the best female rocker of her generation, and this song well deserves its place on the "1001 songs you must hear before you die" list.
I always had a thing for Siouxsie, she's beautiful.
too beautiful - spent 40 years obsessing about her (in the nicest possible way). At 71 probably managed to get over it, now.
Who didn't?
I know what you mean --- I hate her too
sexobscura ???
@@spell.bound.v !!!
Siouxsie British icon and amazing singer. A true British treasure.
64 and still in awe
I used to eat in the 'Hong Kong Garden' chineese take away, in Chislehurst, Kent, UK. Word on the street was , it's what inspired this song.
The Hudsons there is another one in Whitechapel
Dartmoor 100 no way! I live just down the road from there and used to live there. Also had a party in the caves when I was a kid.
What a bloody small world it is eh!
Yeah I think I’ve been there
It probably is based on that because that’s where Siouxsie was born
Dartmoor 100
I used to dine at HKG too and as u said its how the song title came about as our hero lived locally
A friend put a pic up on Facebook standing outside Hong Kong garden yesterday. Looks quite alright.
post punk, goth, punk, hardcore, new wave - whatever it is this song blows my mind!
it's:
Chicken chow mein or chop suey
This song inspired all of these genres
Mix of all and then some more
Im into punk alot now she the queen
Released in 1978.
This is pioneering PUNK Rock.
Ooof, gives me an adrenaline rush when I hear it. It still sounds AMAZING!!!
I was 15 yrs wen I was hit by siouxie,,,,,,l switched in2 A punk overnight,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I'm 54 now and she still makes me feel 15 again,,,,,,can't wait to see her@july 2025🤘
2024@ tynemouth,,mouth of the tyne festival 💋💋
Great song! My older sister played this over and over in 1978 and i still love it!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ This Totally Awesome 💯 Beautiful 😍 and Awesome
The lyrics to this are nothing short of brilliant as is the irresistable bass line
With due respect, why is a stream of abuse of Hong Kong so brilliant? She knows nothing about the place, and even got our currency wrong. The yen is the currency used by China, not Hong Kong.
@@jessicayeung4490in fact Hong Kong Garden isn't about Hong Kong. The title of the song is the name of the chinese takeaway shop...
Saw her in Eric's when i was about 14. Late 70s think they were opening act for the Clash or something. First time you see her and hear that voice you know she's something special. An Icon of that era, shes a one off.
This and spellbound were my favourite punk tracks at the time.
Just the best music , absolutely love Siouxsie and the Banshees, thank God for punk !!
Sat watching this with my 2 year old, she points at the screen and says "mummy." Kid knows how to flatter!
In MARIE ANTOIETTE (film con Kristen Dunst)accompagna delle danze a corte.

My other half introduced me to this song and had it in my head for days hence another Susie fan
Souixsie fan 😊
Oops my bad spelling name wrong 🤭
Siouxsie and the bansheez...exciting then..off the excitement scale now..timeless..the rickity green thing..n i
I was only introduced to punk, rock and metal a few years ago, this is one of the first songs I heard and is hands down still one of the best!!
You can hear elements of Joy Division in this gem 😀 - This song makes me nostalgic as!
this was the music I grew up to... I was 16 when this came out if I was 16 now I wouldn't listen to anything in the charts. that says everything about todays music
How true(its bland bubblegum pop these days)but its what they like.Says it all really.I despair for future generations.
saw them 10 times....in France and England....Incredible music, ah the 80's...my 20....!!!!!
Around 5 years ago, I heard this song for the first time in the Marie Antoinette movie. Thanks to that, I was introduced to punk music and Siouxsie and the banshees is one of my favorites bands. What a coincidence, how some events can lead another

Época mágica, maravilhosa, anos 1980, inesquecível!!
80s in the 70s
@sexobscura to those of us as teenagers in the 70s and, more importantly, fledgling punk rockers know the significance of Siouxsie Sioux. Fantastic time to be hanging around.

Still Beautiful to this day.

Total, absolute classic
2019 is a terrible year for Hong Kong. So I wish and hope for the best to the Hong Kong people and may the protests and riots will be stop sooner . #hongkongprotest
@bofursgun you're right its a music, remember music is a macro therefore lyrics can be use as a message especially most bands under punk genre involves a lot of politics and society, therefore the song is coincidentally called Hong Kong garden at the same time Hong Kong isn't doing well right now. My statement is just to wish HK the best end of story. You have a problem with that?
#FREEHONGKONG
@@RatBoyDunce #FREEHONGKONG #FREETIBET and #FREETURKESTAN
Remember this, I was 12, I was born in Hong Kong, a song with Hong Kong in the title, an absolute gem

I was 17 too. Going to the local "library" and copying vynils on tapes. So much for the sound, so much for music lovers with no money. It was priceless
Brilliant

Fortunate to have this single signed by all 4 original band members.

Classic !
Brilliant ! x :0
Dancing Queen 😍
Beautiful woman and a Chinese meal.....what more could you want? xx
John McKay's guitar on this, Siouxsie's debut single, where to begin? Iconic, hugely influential, a radical departure from the guitar sounds of the early to mid 1970s, or as Jeffrey Lebowski would put it: "I hate The fucking Eagles, man!"
it s quite beauty
love this song xx
bands from the past just seem so much better than the ones now smh
eh, technology has progressed in such a way that musical genres no longer evolve in concentrated areas, but rather globaly, stopping this sort of thing. I have a point but it's not in any way made clear here, sorry.
@Black Sun what an ignorant statement
Chasing the bee
@Megan Shell the clothes now nobody can dress nice today only if spend alot of money and still few people now how to dress today are you joking
Excellent Track!
I am chinese though i love them ang their songs a lot of us werent happy with their insinuating of daughters being sold back then
