Loved that you guys enjoyed it. Will definitely be watching your channel! (This is my first video I’ve found of you guys btw)
As a Trinidadian who is obsessed with Korean culture, this brings joy to my eyes. Lil heads up, the dish with the oxtail is known as pelau pronounced peh+lau (au as in luau)
I am a Trinidadian, the rice dish looks like what we call "pelau" as to your curiosity it is indeed made like a stew with soy sauce or browning (burnt sugar sauce) and the roti is made of dahl (split peas) grains it's called dahlpouri, the 2 fry bread dishes (doubles) are usually served with alot more sauce and is usually served with channa, sweet sauce, shadonbenny, cucumber, chutney and pepper. Alot of topping to choose from 😁
Pelau isn't made with soy sauce that. In all my life never heard of anyone using soy sauce to make pelau. But yea everything else you said is right 👍. But the rice dish doesn't look like typical trini food to me. Gives me more Jamaican rice and peas and ox tail.
the type of roti you guys ate is called a dhalpuri, the grainy texture is the dhal(split peas) that is cooked inside the roti, the roti is then stuff with any kind of meat that is curry or even stew.
There are a lot of Trinidadians who have South East Asian (Chinese) and South Asian (Indian) ethnicity and many who are a combination. The curry Trinidadians use is a blend unique to Trinidad. It’s not like Thai, Jamaican, Guyanese, Korean, or Chinese curry. The roti is dhalpuri which has ground seasoned split peas which it put into the dough and before it is rolled out and roasted. I am glad you enjoyed Trinidadian foods. The choices you got were also good to be introduced to the meal. FYI, carrots in curry chicken is a new one for me.
Trinis are so lucky since we grew up eating those amazing foods...and one of the girls commented the curry is different which is true- it is in fact the best type of curry in the world because of the unique blend of Caribbean herbs and spices...those doubles are severely lacking per Trini island standards yet their substandardness is still awesome...
