Can we please put to bed that sewage water was leaking. It was dirty rain water. I don't disagree that Northwest/Fed Ex stadium is one of or the worst NFL stadium. But running sewage lines above fans makes no sense and would actually cost more since bathrooms are inside, not where fans sit.

The best-maintained stadium is Dodger Stadium. It has been going through massive renovations and the Dodgers always repaint it every off-season. It sill looks brand new even though it's 62 years old. Every stadium should be treated with such care.

All team owners learned that from the Twins and Vikings. Metropolitan Stadium (although not bad for watching baseball) was a cheap Erector Set thing that was built in bits and pieces, then stopped (never "finished") in 1964. The Twins and Vikings never bothered to maintain it. By the late 1970s, The Met was a filthy, rusty, broken-down dump. The Twins and Vikings used that as an excuse to demand a new dome...which, in some ways was actually worse. That neglect tactic has trended ever since.

Great video and very fair portrayal! I’ve been a Washington fan my whole life and actually got the chance to intern for the team’s marketing department last season, right around the ownership change. Our office was one of the suites on the 3rd floor, and I got to freely walk around the whole stadium so I’ve seen a ton of whats underneath.
Overall, yes, it’s not a great stadium, definitely bottom 5 in the NFL, and we need a new one. And some seats in the back of the ‘cave’ shouldn’t be sold IMO. However I really don’t think it’s *as* bad as people have made it out to be, and as the dude at the end said, a lot of that just has to do with how bad the team has been. While Harris has made some great improvements this year, I’d say the lack of complaints this year vs years prior has way more to do with how much better the team is

The stadium isn't awful. It's just not nice or special. 25 years of terrible football, a dastardly owner, and those viral videos gave it a worse perception than it might warrant. Reality is, it's just a character-less bowl that was built as large as possible (92000 seats before the reduction) to make the Cooke family as much money as possible.
As I said, if this team was winning 11-12 games a year for the last 2 decades and had a SB win also, this would be looked at like Arrowhead: an uninteresting stadium far from the city center where a lot of winning happened.

    • @davidlafleche1142
      @davidlafleche1142 5 днів тому

A football stadium doesn't need to be "interesting." Baseball is the only sport in which architecture actually has a role in the game: the Green Monster (Fenway Park), Death Valley (Yankee Stadium), house rooftop seats (Wrigley Field), etc.

I've been a Redskins fan my entire life. I stopped watching a few years ago though. I've been to several games at FedEx. I never personally experienced any issues there, nothing but a few really great memories, and a few more really, really bad memories. The Monday Night Massacre with Donavan McNabb come to mind. It's funny seeing the Ravens fan in the video. The one problem with Baltimore's stadium is the moment you step outside of it. Remember that show The Wire? I wasted three years of my life running back and forth to Baltimore driving by that stadium everyday. It's unreal how bad it gets within feet of that place.

  • @TdogAlicious

I actually went here two years ago for opening day when they were playing the Jaguars. I was curious to see how bad the stadium was. Their concessions were very bare bones. We were sitting closer to the 50 yard line and the barrier right above our head was blocking the view. The stadium was not as terrible as everyone said, but it was definitely not good. However, I was really surprised how loud it got in that stadium.

I went to 1 NFL game in my life, in 2002 the Radiers/Broncos MNF game in Oakland. It was a blast. We had cheap seats and the upper deck blocks our view, so they have TV's hanging for us to view, but our TV in our section wasn't working. You had to duck to see the scoreboard. Fans were picking on a boy wearing a Broncos jacket. The men's bathroom had long lines. Guys peeing in garbage cans. Everybody was wearing black and silver and surrounded by concrete. Almost felt like I was in a prison or something.

Probably wasn’t sewage. Was likely a fire suppression sprinkler pipe. There was no reason for a sewage pipe to be there. Sprinkler pipe water smells very sewage like due to rust and the lubricating oil used by the installers. I used to install these systems and worked with people who worked at the stadium installing these. This water is even brown due to rust. Imo this is more scary as a fire mixed with a decrepit fire suppression system is a deadly mix. The fact that an alarm didn’t go off when this happened is even more scary as the alarm is connected to the water pressure in the system. Just my thoughts on that broken pipe.

RFK is hopeless. It's 62 years old, rusty, filthy, obsolete and too small. It seated around 56,000 for football: originally 53,000. The Redskins were so desperate to cram in more seats, they put them in one end zone and covered up the scoreboard (which only half the fans could see anyway). The sideline seats were too low. Forget RFK. Build a new stadium that doesn't share with baseball.

I blame the workmanship. Where were the building inspectors? Some people got paid off.

On top of that, most of the games I've been to over the last 10 yrs have been at least half if not more of the opponents fans. Pathetic

Its funny cause the ppl that say NW field sucks can't usually tell you why. In reality Lambeau is worse but no one cares cause of nostalgia. And the railings were temporary for wheelchair access, eagles fans shouldn't of even been in that section. Also sewage doesn't run above the seating areas. Now the infrastructure there has fallen behind. Mostly due to Snyders cheapness. Hope NW can be given some more life and maybe return to RFK. Even though im in Southern Maryland so it'll be further away, still be cool to return to DC.

I’d honestly be way more pissed about the gushing sewage pipe leaking on me then the railing collapsing.

Snyder really fucked me up. I trust this new team owner too damn much and he can pretty much do no wrong in my eyes.

Stadium sucks. I am not local but have been a fan my whole life. It’s a four hour drive for me to get to this dump. If they ever upgrade to a nicer place, I would definitely make the drive once or twice a year. I have driven the hour to see the team in New York or Philly instead because those stadiums are nice.
