Kinda disliked it when i first watched it. Watched it again and started slowly liking it.
I remember when episode 1 aired in Japan, it would be 5 or so hours before Crunchyroll released it but I couldn’t contain my excitement and listened to the first 15 seconds of this opening and I loved it IMMEDIATELY.

Same, watched it with my sister and was surprised that she didn't like it when she immediately heard it. I loved it right off the bat and thought most people would feel the same. The animation and feel of the song totally aligns with the show and just sounds awesome (in my mind at least)

I felt discouraged when everyone around me did not like this intro; but after reading the comments, it made me happy knowing people still recognise this masterpiece.

I love how this show starts off as your regular anime with the heroes saving their homes from monsters and then as the seasons progress you realise its a lot closer to reality than you might think, and morphs into this common theme of humanity always resorting to war and its all dumb and stupid after all and everyone is dying pointlessly

In my opinion, I think this should have been the final opening to AoT. Instead of Opening 7. This just gives a complete different vibe compared to the other openings and just amazing. It gives chills.

@@Shanemvm anime are all in 24 fps right? so upscaling it twice makes up for 48 fps, meaning 50 ist a lot closer and nicer to see, rather than the jump to 60, or am i wrong?
I'm not a big fan of anime, so I was not used to the intros of Season 1, 2, and 3. This immediately became my favorite because instead of focusing on the main characters and the titans, it really delves in the brutality of war and the bleak reality of it.
The show mostly focuses on the main characters, and y'know, because they're main characters, they're not dying off the bat. But this intro made me think of the nameless soldiers who walk to the same war as them, but never mentioned, never thought of, and when they die, never even remembered. This intro is fascinating in this aspect to me

no it represented the first world war (1914-1918) as you can tell by the style of uniform and bolt action rifle. AOT's last seasons marleyan military culture is largely based on 1914-1918's events
I was introduced to the anime when this into came out and my first impression was “what does this have to do to titans?” But you have to really see the season

This is the best anime opening I've seen tbh. It's such a jarring tonal shift from the previous openings that finally play the show's real hand. I love how its reminiscent of a WWI march but very very ironic and self aware of what it is.
The soldiers marching is so deep. They are not individuals anymore. Their fredom stolen. They now serve a purpose bigger than then so they dont need to think, just act. And then you see the people that turned into the collossals titans and they are just the same. they cant think anymore, but they serve a purpose

I love the fact that it's an almost universal experience to dislike this song untill you realize how well it fits the theme of the season.
after 3 years i saw that at 0:10 you can see the spine from eren’s founding titan, isayama is a genius
BEST SNK OPENING
I remember seeing this the first time and I was all like "the visuals are awesome! The song however is good but could be better" and then after watching it 2 - more times I just loved it
love this opening, shows how beyond the walls was not black or white but buckets of grey that fucked with everyone's head space. you really got to see the evolution of the characters and how they dealt with the force of what they were seeing and hearing. Its like if we got out of the solar system in space only to discover its a crazy divided inner fraction fighting warzone that we were ignorant of for centuries.

The genius of this opening is that it does not show any titans at all. The titans and the enemy titan shifters were always seen as the main enemy up until this point in the series. Now we know that the titans were only a weapon utilized by humans. The real enemies are and always have been humans as well as their greed and lust for war.
This is one of the best, or best AOT opening cuz like it switches so smoothly into the modern world.
The melody whispers impending doom so loudly. Cutting. This opening has grown on me.

It's because it's not a typical song, it has this gruesome dissonance to it, with high pitched voices accompanied by militaristic drums.
It hits weird the first time, but the context makes you understand what the song is about, and then you realize it's perfect.

the first time I heard this, the song felt so unsettling because of all the dark events that happened in the previous seasons, i had chills all over my body 💀

What I really liked about the Marley arc is that Attack on Titan kind of got grounded in reality for a time and the genre changed. We were all used to the dark fantastical elements and when we realized that humanity existed outside the walls and the world was in a relative sense actually normal but the titans were weaponized for warfare that's when the genre changed to a war drama. The opening fits because now Paradis wants to be left alone but to do that they have to wage war on the rest of the world because they refuse to leave them be and to make it scarier, Paradis has the ultimate nuclear deterrent with the rumbling. It's crazy how AoT managed to do that.
Always loved how fucking well it suits the images and the whole feeling of this part. It's one of the best op of this entire anime imo.

This opening didn't become my favorite right away. After about five episodes of the fourth season, I realized how perfectly it captures the atmosphere of this part of the anime. I now consider it a masterpiece. It completely captures my bewilderment and growing horror as the season progresses.

The theme of the song, the chanting at the end and the title remind me of the book Hitler wrote. Mein Kampf. Kampf means battle, struggle and the like, but the books title is often translated to, my war.

Can we take the time to appreciate something we've never seen before that just noticed tonight. When they go to one of the explosions, which if you look closely at the mushroom cloud, you'll realize it's the colossal titan transforming, but we get a new look into it. Before the colossal titan has just appeared out of nowhere. Now we see that's it forms just like any other titan, just at an accelerated rate.
