Than, We use a combo in our quad T5 fixture. Two true actinic, A single 10K and a single Purple plus. With histograms and spectral charts we feel this gives us the best spread of spectrum with a focus on the photo synthetic side!
I just replaced my stock Coralife T5 10,000K bulb with a Fluval 18,000K bulb and it is much brighter. My LPS brain coral looks much happier now. I'm thinking about replacing my Coralife Actinic bulb with an ATI Actinic bulb because it's obvious to me now that the Coralife bulbs that came with my fixture are subpar. When I first got my 24" fixture for my 5 gallon tank, I was very disappointed at the brightness. I'm also supplementing my fixture with two Glo Fish blue LED bars mounted on my T5 fixtures legs. I don't know if the blue LED's do anything other than add a slight tint of blue to my lighting. Thanks for the video! I got the Fluval bulb because it was an impulse purchase at my LFS. I was originally going to get ATI bulbs all around.

Hey Than! Great video. I have been using LED's for the past year and I am about to start up a series of videos that will start with me introducing a HO T5 fixture with ATI bulbs. The fixture will have 1 purple plus, 1 coral plus, and 2 blue plus bulbs. I will be documenting how well my mixed reef tank adjusts and grows after switching to the HO T5 fixture.
@@tomg5405 My comment was 7 years ago. The T5 fixture I was using at the time ended up not functioning when I went to start up and I've really gotten away from making youtube videos ever since UA-cam changed their policy on subscribers and views.
@@tomg5405 For the past 2 years I've been using Reefi Duo Extreme LED's and they have been absolutely fantastic! There are also Reefi Uno's if you prefer the smaller pucks.

Hey Stan great vids, love them all. I really enjoyed this vid because I run 6-48 in t5's in my tank. And I love the way this t5's looked and the different bulb selection.. I use the giesemann bulbs. I have 3- atinic plus, 1- blue lagoon, and 2- midday. Also I have a economic 48 in panorama white and atinic that are controlled to do the sunrise and sunset with moon lights. I have seen great growth with t5's on my sps. But I would like for you to help me with what bulbs are better or what combination should I use. Pls thnx.

What is the best combination bulb color to achieve best growth and shining for all kinds of coral especially SPS ? I have a kessil A350w over my tank and it doesn’t have much of a uv spectrum. I just ordered the t5 retrofit kit. Would I benefit well from using 2 true actinic bulbs and dileing up the whites on the kessil. Or would you recommend another. Sps dominant
If you got the retrofit you have 4 bulbs you can put in. I was told one person went 1 atinic then the rest blue plus. Right now I run 20k Hamilton halides one blue and one atinic t12 but but wiring in 4 t5s next.

This is just what I was looking for. I'm thinking of replacing my Radion with a ATI Powermodule LED. I'm not familiar with T5, so this helps a lot!
