Any tips for moving their arm ? Alot of techniques start with “ grab their wrist and move it here”, when in reality moving someones entire arm with just wrist control feels impossible in live rolling
In this setup, you can power it by stuffing it in to your belly button as you dive in. My boys at Cobra Kai call this a dip set, where you dip in and set them up on your hips. Very effective. I catch it by first catching the under hook on the top, and then diving my bottom arm under their leg when I dive in as you roll under them, even if they try to post, you still can get out from under them and stand up. Either way a win win.
It’s about timing and anticipating you opponents movement. No one technique is fool proof and you should feel good if you are successfully hitting techniques anything over 10% of the time. It’s about having 3-4 techniques learned and drilled for every position that all work different angles. You’ll never remember everything but the more tools you have available to recall in the moment in every situation the more success you will see. Almost every time I hit a technique it’s immediately after failing the previous or in response to my opponent.
@@smokinlion8889the more you tire someone out the more they fall for things like this even one handed. even black belts are still human. when they are tired enough or focused on something else you can catch them slipping. something i do is look them in the eyes or their chest when i catch the wrist
I wish everyone was as considerate as you . The quiet sound effects, your tone of voice ,everybody is literally yelling and adding beeps and koud dumb just stupid noise . Glad i found your vids. Thank you very much.
I get this all the time in gi and nogi. Big detail at least for me is making sure we are knee to knee (aka opponent is at the end of our lever) and stomping down on my own foot as I roll my hips under. Love this sweep!
As a 6 week white belt who is in the ' try not to get tapped as fast', phase, i end up in half guard a lot with higher white belts and some blues. This will be super helpful cos i usially just end up holding on and trying to wait out the timer
Jordan, could you pls, make a live comparison with your style to make the John Wayne Sweep and the style of Adam Wardzinski? Because you 2 are way too good in that, but is very differente way to do it.
Just checked it out. I don't mean this negatively at all, but what he's doing to me is more like a halfguard flower sweep than it is a John Wayne sweep. Both great sweeps and his version is awesome too.
works great as soon as they enter the cross face and underhook, as long as they dont lift their inside knee off the mat. (feet together blocking knee to sweeping side and elbow biting their underhook.)
I typically do a 2 on 1 grip and pull the arm across the body and then shoot the hips in. Probably my most effective sweep. Learned this from your videos. Thank you! I’ve hit multiple black belts with it and they can’t stop it once it’s secured.
There's so many variations of this sweep. The utility behind this move extends far beyond just sweeping. It's also proven in MMA as Yair Rodriguez did it to Max Holloway and Mansour Barnoui does it to everyone. Half guard wouldn't be nearly as effective without it.
Kinda similar but overall not really. A lasso sweep is mostly about off balancing using the outside, lasso leg. While the john wayne sweep primarily uses the inside leg to off balance.
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu thank you for the fast reply. I totally get what you are saying, gotta give it a try tonight as I’m currently heading to my bjj course

You gotta find the right spot in their arm (or any limb) for maximum leverage. Also make sure you use your body/frame against their arm.
I agree…you’d havta go 2 on 1 to make it realistic…unless your opponent is much weaker than you

Thanks its a prodigy thing
We call this one the giggler.
Sean Roberts? Had a seminar by him ages ago.

I call it the D'Arce sweep. Martin D'Arce does this all the time in the training room.

Hmm good idea. I'll check out his version and see how it compares 🙂
Also a follow up move for the cases where they’re able to shift their weight to the left and overcommit

@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu Thank's for your time! I'm studying this sweep, so your opinion will help me a lot.
I was lucky enough to see John Wayne use this on Jimmy Stewart at the 59 oscars
Vous êtes un vrai surdoué du ju-jitsu maître Jordan
I gotta do some weight training to be able to push and pull someone's arm. Most people resist
Why is it called the John Wayne sweep? Is it named after a couple of cowboys rolling across the saloon floor like in an old Western?
Haha I have no idea either
I was going to ask the same question
Did John Wayne have a cross draw? Because if so, then I assume this where if comes from. But I could be wrong😂
In my gym we call it the giggler because that's what you involuntarily do when you feel yourself weightless in this sweep.
Because it’s without explanation cool
Amazing technique
One of my all time favourites!

Let's go
I'm john wayne at the first Thanksgiving pilgrims. Happy Thanksgiving pilgrims
Does it matter where the left foot is placed?
Check out the second sweep in this video for more detail

I'm doing this today lol
Wonder how this one got its name 🤔
Creep vibes
Lol thanks man
This only works if the person has never wrestled.

I find myself in half guard frequently. This could be useful. 👍🏻
Should definitely help!
This looks like bjj aikido….can’t wait to put it to the test. Big fan of your videos and instructional insights.

What's preventing them from getting chest to chest half guard when you are trying to bring the hips under them?
Their arm across their body. Chest to chest is only good for the person who has the better grips.
Never going to work in my gym. People dont leave that much space in half guard
You can do it from a low knee shield as well. It's up to you to manage the space.
Great energy and tech. Love it👍
Can you show half guard defence for opponents we've passing
Is it the same mechanic as a lasso sweep but in no gi ?
Kinda similar but overall not really. A lasso sweep is mostly about off balancing using the outside, lasso leg. While the john wayne sweep primarily uses the inside leg to off balance.

I like playing half guard and I will definitely use this today. Great tool I need to master. Thank you @jordan
Yeah just push his hand down 😂
So dreamy..!
I know there is a stereotype that all bjj guys are gay and thats not true but you look like the reason that stereotype was invented
Haha you think so? I'm curious if you're just trolling, or I actually come off that way 😅
Bizarre comment
😂wtf. My man literally makes vids with his wife??
Gheeeyyyy
