    Just because you walk in a circle doesn't make what you do bagua. You are missing some fairly major points of the practice. You stepping lacks consistency, you are very stiff in your upper body and tend to finish you body movement before you arms. This has you losing the hollow chest position and losing connection often.
    I advise you spend a lot more time in standing practice and the basic movements before you give yourself the title Master

      @@Χριζαϊων_Ζηνόβῐος This is in no way remotely able to qualify as a beginner. It isn't good enough to be basic. In Bagua, there are 24 key points of motion and 12 key points of structure that must be adhered to according to Bagua classics. This shows none of them. It doesn't even hint at them. This is two untrained individuals pretending at Bagua. Circle walking alone is supposed to train 3 types of Jin at least in a fundemental setting. Like any craftsman, you can easily tell when it is right or wrong while an untrained observer is clueless what to look for. No student with any practical experience in Bagua would believe this is correct.

They and him will come out of this illusion when they get confronted in a real fight. Bottom line, Jake and company need REAL training ( Kua remained open, back misaligned, walk is wrong etc,etc.). I wonder how many of his (gullible) students applied these techniques in a real situation with positive results? Any comments?

    It's embarrassing to watch this - I was unable to finish it. I'm trying to think of something useful to write here. Perhaps it must be to caution those who are truly interested in learning the internal martial arts against working with charlatans, even well-intentioned ones. But how is one to discriminate? When working in person, real teachers can demonstrate applications against your will - that is to say that they don't need your cooperation to function. In this case, these guys are "allowing" the move to be applied against them, which would never happen in a real fight. There is plenty more to say on the subject, and perhaps others will reply to this thread with other suggestions on how to discriminate between the real and the unreal...

      Nofarewell “tensed up nonsense”
      I’m glad you said that,so I’ll know you’ll know what I mean:
      Im no fighter,no martial arts at all.
      But I have always been an avid fan of watching Chinese katas of most sorts...
      I learned long ago...some people can do a “kata” and it looks like flowing water,effortless and “gorgeous” for lack of a better word..
      Others look wooden and tried.
      “Almost always Caucasians”
      My 2 questions:
      I’ve never bothered to learn a martial art because I’ve essentially been convinced that the Caucasian race is incapable of hitting that “non-tensed up” level
      Are Asians born with body’s that permit something the Caucasian race can’t achieve ?
      Or is it just that more often than not hacks like the guy above happen to be Caucasian?
      If you think that Caucasians can hit that level...do you think that 36 years old is too late to start?

    • @Nofarewell
      @Nofarewell 5 років тому +2

      @@andrewgarratt5191 , hi Andrew, thanks for your answer (and question!) I try to answer to it thoruoghly. Your insight is quite prompt especially considering you are not into martial arts yourself so far (in terms of direct experience). Apart from forms (or Katas), you should study real sparring too as forms, katas can be deceiving. What I mean is a form is just a form. Let me demonstrate this with a traditional example: there is a really good martial art, XingYi Quan (loosely translated: the fist of the form and the intent/mind) where Xing is form, Yi is intent/mind, Quan is fist, and/or fight, the way of fighting. If you study Xing, that can be beautiful, but without the Yi, which is mostly hidden, the internal martial aspect simply cannot be done - it's not a fluke that after many years, XingYi Quan was simplified by a master named Wang Xiangzhai back to YiQuan (left the form, Xing, it became the mind, intent fist; although it didn't change XingYi itself, it became (or returned?) another martial art). See what I mean? Form can be executed in a really appealing, eyecandy manner, but it doesn't mean it has any substance (yi, mind, intent) in it, which is mostly hidden (it is the beauty of it). After a while, if you experience real internal martial power, fa jin, you can distinguish more by watching it. "Tensed up nonsense", although in this video is very much evident, however not always can be seen, so hurrah for you again for spotting it! :) - it's always a fighting situation or real sparring when the internal aspect can really be seen - not just on the practitioner, but on the other person, who provides power in the first place, to which power the master responds; the effect of the force, the execution, the effect on the other guy gives you the answer. To the experienced eye, it can be spotted, even on the form. I advise you to look for the channel "The Martial Man" and look for masters like Adam Mizner, Sifu Sergio. These masters are really good and authentic (and caucasians too :) - which brings us to the second part. I don't think there is a universal answer to it (but yet there is) , but here's my 2 cents: Internal martial arts are one of the most fantastic gift to mankind. All of mankind. But it was given to a culture which has the most profound, complete, whole tradition: Taoism, the Ji King. The difference is not between us anthropologically as we are all equal children under the sun; it is between us traditionally, philosophically. So if you start to walk the way of oriental martial arts in their extended form, like you start to study the Ji King, you realize that Europe/USA has more Yang than Yin and traditionally China is more balanced. I think this last sentence gives you the answer of the "caucasian" question. I know, it's too long, I'd write much more though. I personally practice Tai Chi, 37 WU form and some Yang style and I know something about Xing Yi, Yiquan, Bagua too as I've been given the opportunity to learn from/practice with outstanding, fantastic people I proudly call Friends/Teachers. 36 years young? Try to find a nice place to train and start when ready. You'll have at least another 36 (I hope more) to perfect it. it's a life long journey. Write me if you need further info.

    This does not carry any essence of the fighting techniques of bagua zhang. First of all the real application of these "techniques" should automatically off balance any one from the initial contact utlizing the concepts of big circle and small circle. They also have incorrect spinal alignment, the body is stiff as a rock. There is no change going on pretty much just a performance. You can't fight anyone being that stiff. much less continue practicing the right way being that stiff.

  • @ShifuCareaga
    @ShifuCareaga 9 років тому +4

    I believe I can shed some light on this topic.
    I came from the same system as Jake, but a different lineage entirely. Unfortunately Jake is too far into training to start from ground 0, and yet the forms are not right, not quite right. For myself I long ago began supplementing my SD with experts like Jerry Alan Johnson or John Painter, Rudy Cury, etc... and learned how it really moves. I moved away from SD naturally while Jake only split because of politics and money, etc.. so essentially still SD. That's why it comes off "wooden" or "not quite right". It isn't that he's a bad teacher, he's actually damn good compared to his teachers. Frankly, he's become master-like in his pursuit. However, to call it a Master Combat is not correct, and obviously going to lead to criticisms. My recommendation is to spend less time making the body look perfect and make the form look perfect. It's worth the exercise in breaking the external mold. I can see the fluid movement beneath, and the intense concentration. With some real mud stepping and genuine fluidity this could be better. And don't call yourself a Master, that's the inheritance of the old Shaolin Do title grabbing. You're above that now if you can step out of the mould.
    I hope that provides some clarity. People should be nicer to Jake, he wanted to get out of a bad situation and got sued and won and he's got a great looking school and good vibes. Unfortunately that isn't the Tao itself. I hope he finds the secret of how the Chinese moved - and Sin The is a bad example, bro.

    • @shawn6669
      @shawn6669 9 років тому

      +Shifu Careaga Sifu Rudy is fine but Painter and JAJ aren't much better than SD. Better to just drop all that stuff altogether and put your energy into searching out someone who really knows what they're doing like the Luo De Xiu lineage or the He Jin Bao lineage or the Wang Peisheng YCGF lineage or the Gao Ji Wu stuff that Tom Bisio teaches. It's really not that hard to search out nowadays and the skills of just some dude as opposed to someone who's both talented and knows what they're doing are not even the same thing. I mean if you want to waste your time it's your time but you'd serve yourself much better with the real deal. FWIW.

NOthing about this guy is master, There is no master , there is no best , only better. So money, money, money, poor little fake mace, money, money, money. Where is the Ba Gua? People should be whoevet they want to be, not who you want them to be, stop this poser, do what is right, he wastes time and detracts from real practitioners. Are you getting kick backs from face lace? He made his bed, let him sleep in it.Mudstepping does not make you doing bagauzhang.

    On the surface, it looks good. The moves resemble Bagua, but are wrong in all the details. The shoulders are stiff, and not sunk properly. The chest and back are not rounded, the back is not rounded and the buttocks protrude out, the legs are too open and the groin is exposed.
    This is Bagua done for performance, not for actual fighting. Very beautiful, not realistic at all.

I read critical comments It is none of your business what other people call you. You become what you practice. The circle is unending as is your internal and external transformation. Practice for an hour and you have walked 10560 feet or more. You practice slowly because the body can move faster than the mind. Just because you are skilled does not mean an unskilled person is going to do what you expect. Have you seen someone who has practiced for 50 years being old and tired? One lady veteran practiced Tai Chi with an artificial heart strapped to her back in her practice uniform. Another teacher had pancreatic cancer and taught until he couldn't. It's not always what you practice it's how you practice.
