7 Rules of Wearing Sneakers with a Suit: 1. Don't 2. No way 3. Not a chance 4. Don't even think about it 5. Forget about it! 6. Under no circumstances should you contemplate taking this action 7. That's a negative, Houston
The corporate world has become so casual that, for some job interviews, sneakers are the best choice. It's important to research the company culture before picking your outfit.
Fashion is for kids and rookies. Style is for seasoned gentlemen. Sneakers are a fashion statement. Proper dress shoes are an expression of style. Cary Grant, at times, could have used a pair of sneakers. Would he have worn them? Only on the tennis court. Cheers
My personal taste: no white sneakers. Not only are they high-maintenance and low applicability (basically only on beige suits), they are also the most sportiest and attract the most attention, the opposite what you want to achieve. A pair of navy, brown, black or dark grey can blend in with the suit, while not disrupting the overall look.
Even thought I occasionally wear sneakers, I’m not big on them. I do not think a stylish man should ever wear sneakers with a suite. This also applies to dress sneakers, which is an oxymoron.
NEVER wear sneakers with a suit. Unless you are a 16 yr old hipster living with mom. In that case, sneakers match nicely with the $129 suit mom picked up for you at Kohls.
White sneakers are fine if you're a teenager, but other than that, it make makes you look like a relic from the 80's & early 90's. No sneakers with suits....not even for toddlers.
whent to photograph a wedding few years a go , and the groum was wearing a green 3 pice , with oversize white sneekers ,, in throws occasion i wear a pair of oxford or derby and i am the photographer ,
Thanks for Your video (I'm a woman). In my opinion very tasteful recommendations. Personally I don't like this combination sneaker / suit at men because it looks in my eyes everytime if somebody can't decide beeing dressed casual or formal. ( Sorry for the bad english but it's not my mother language)
I cannot see what’s the attractive of pairing sneakers with a suit. It looks just childish and not very appealing because the proportions and silhouette of the suit is broken by a chunky piece of rubber.
An important part of the issue is that shoes are, traditionally, the most expensive items in a gentleman's wardrobe. When a pair of sneakers cost between $50-150 and a pair of real, leather soled quality dress shoes ring up at $300-800, economics are a factor. Let's face it. Most guys are kid raising, blue collar men who can't even afford a suit to begin with.
If you're a blue collar guy who doesn't wear suits very often, you'd be better off just getting some $50 dress shoes from target since you won't be wearing them often.
A hard line must be drawn in the sand and this is it. No, suits with sneakers. You just end up looking like you changed your mind half-way through dressing yourself and are too lazy to start-over.
As a fashion choice? No. A gentleman building a wardrobe from scratch will buy dress shoes before he buys a suit, simply because the dress shoes are more useful. A good pair of dress shoes can be worn with outfits ranging from casual to formal, but the same cannot be said of a suit. Since you already own a pair of dress shoes, why would you not wear them when you buy a suit? It's forgivable if you're a 16 year old teenager whose parents buy all their clothes, but we're all grown men here. There are far more cases where *black* sneakers are acceptable. I sing with a large city symphony choir. Black suits are part of our concert attire, and many of us wear sneakers onstage to avoid back pain and passing out from standing under hot lights. Nobody sees our feet except for when we're coming on or offstage, so stage black sneakers are acceptable. Many of the stage crew also wear stage black sneakers with black suits. But even then, if you have a pair of dress shoes that are as comfortable as a pair of sneakers, those would be far preferable.
Not happening with me. I have sneakers with full wingtip and captoe brougue uppers, and they aren't going with my suits. They are for adding style to my athleisurewear. If there is a white rubber sneaker sole, it's not going to happen. Suit = leather sole, and rarely loafers.
wearing sneakers with a suit is equivalent to wearing a graphic tee with fine wool trousers. gents, _never_ mix dressy with casual. it looks immature and rebellious. if you're going to dress up, go full in and own it.
If you still have an ounce of self-respect, you will never wear sneakers with a suit. Calling sneakers shoes is like calling fast food nutritious food. You have style or you don't. Fashion trends or superior individuality with a mass product like sneakers are far from a gentleman's concern.
I liked the sneaker/suit look when I saw the cover for Suits season 2. It showed Mike wearing a suit and wearing red converse. It was a slim suit and he himself is slim. I knew I couldn’t pull it off but loved the way it looked 12 something years ago. 😅
Please don't wear tennis shoes with a suit. Get a pair of slip ons that look somewhat loafer-like, or lace up sneakers that look like oxfords or brogues.
Suits with sneakers are the future. Dress shoes are not really build for comfort, and even when they are, you can't cover long distances in them. Anyone who disagrees must buy me a car, then I'll wear dress shoes 😂😂
Well, the clothing you wear with dress shoes is not meant to be trekked in either. Situationalism has been shit on too much, not everything has to be utmost versatile. Nobody is covering long distances in dress sneakers either
As a style novice,I appreciate James making his argument, and the community making it clear they see this as controversial.
I am in the right place.
suit and sneaker never goes hand in hand never forget that

Definitely DON’T if it’s an interview or business meeting unless it’s a casual meeting

Absolutely a hard no!
I have seen a man in a SHARK SKIN suit with white CHUCK TAYLORS on. It looked good. The toe box and shoe profile makes a difference.
Rule number one. NO SNEAKERS WITH SUITS. PERIOD. NO EXCEPTIONS.
shut ur mouth Mr. Tryhard. Ofcourse you can go with sneaks with suits e.g. in the summer
If you desire to wear sneakers with a suit, good for you. I hope that your suit cost more than your sneaks.

This actually sounds like a very good rule-of-thumb. 🤔
Try to be with people that knows fashion don't just dress like a cat😅.

There are no rules of wearing sneakers with a suit. You just don't wear them.
So many strong opinions in the comments 😅
Man has a point, it's a situational choice, and can look very nice.

please make a video about fitness for gentlemen!!!
I have a long-term video in the works on this topic. I'm on a fitness journey myself.

I call it Miami Vice memorial style

Cool outfit. Doesn't work for me, but it's cool.

Your English is fine Anette.
It is good to hear what the ladies think.
Thank you.
Rule Zero: No sneakers with suits. Not ever.
Amen!
100% agree
💯 It just looks wrong.
Amen
🎯😂
Sacre bleu ! Never under any circumstances should 'sneakers' be worn with a suit !
Never ever
One of my coworkers' wedding had her groom and groomsmen wearing Chucks. Yikes.

@@danelisslow3269The best alternative is to find some top quality shoes in perfect condition second hand 👌.
Rule #8: Don't forget your propeller beanie!

I am a woman - sneakers with a suit IS DISGUSTING. DO NOT DO IT.

Sneakers can be worn with white flannel slacks or chinos and a navy blazer

These comments give me hope for humanity. 😊
Honestly no, never. I hate sneakers in the first place, every average joe out there has them. Be different !
Sneakers gives a more juvenile look with a suit in my opinion.
I guess you could if you wanted. But if there are so many nuances why not just wear dress shoes?
There are so many rules and people get so wound up about them that sneakers with a suit isn't worth it.
If you still have an ounce of self-respect, you will never wear sneakers with a suit. Calling sneakers shoes is like calling fast food nutritious food. You have style or you don't. Fashion trends or superior individuality with a mass product like sneakers are far from a gentleman's concern.
A teenager going to a school dance can wear sneakers with a suit. After that, lose that fashion option.

I mean…I don’t…might work for some people. I get so much pleasure from the opportunity to dress up why would I dress down my dressing up?
Sneakers for youngsters and/or Summer suits, bearable. More than that, just ugly.
Most important tip:
Don't.

So tacky and definitely a style no-no.
