Dan Buman thanks Dan. I always struggle with what to say in 1 minute or so. I want to keep talking but you can’t. The Persian video was my favorite as far as history goes.
You are a brilliant painter - this is about the 10th army you have painted that I have watched and they are all brilliant looking. What rules system are they based for?
Hi Stephen, i’m very glad that you like them. I always pick one or two armies a month to try to paint and tweak. Right now I’m working on my medievals from the 1200s. I just finished my hundred year war armies. And put them up on UA-cam they are I think probably some of my nicest. I’ll be soon putting up the Hungarians from the 13 1400s. I use hail Caesar rules and Pike and shot. For the most part they might not be 100% perfect in every regard but I like their flexibility. I just bake into what I want that army to do at God-given battle. It really works extremely well that way and most of my mates we have a good time and laugh and I think that’s what it’s all about. Since everything is base the same it really doesn’t matter. My armies are based on 80 mm frontage which is perfect for 15 mm. I have tried other rule sets and frankly they are all really nice. I just got used to the hail Caesar rules and they work for what I want them to do. Which is just give us a good game with lots of fun laughter and Trash Talk😂😂😂
Fabulous video and I will have to borrow some of this for my 28mm. Your 15mm looks better than most 28s. I've seen the colourful sarissa and armour but as a fairly new enthusiast, I've not come across the sources yet that support it. I really want to do the same sort of wild colours though. Can you point me in the right direction or is this just creative license and imagination?
Hi Pete, thank you so very much. Well, The Macedonians that marched out of Macedon heading east towards Persia, were said to have been very colorful, lots of magenta pink blues and yellows. Much more different than what we think they were. I painted the army as historical as I possibly could based on information from multiple sources. If you look at ancient vases and pottery and the colors that they could identify on various statues they could tell that they were quite colorful. Then of course I added my own thought of what they might look like. I think if you Google multiple sources and you draw your own conclusion, you’ll be able to create an army that you were happy with. In reality we really don’t know 100% what they look like, but we are about 80%. I wanted each pike block to be unique, making it a unit and identifiable on the field. I have not had anyone critic my army yet as to its accuracy. Use it as a guideline. I am happy you liked it. Take a look at my Indian army, Macedonians and Pontic. It will give you a good idea of colors.
Another fantastic army and yep, he’s a fascinating character. Apologies if you have said and I missed it, but I was just wondering what rules you tend to play with?
Mary Hinge hail Caesar I like, armati and two the strongest. They all play well. Mortem I’ll try soon. But it doesn’t matter as I’m a solo gamer due to nobody local.
Very nicely painted. I chose to have shielded cavalry with a more Persian look and no elephants in my Mithridatic army - as that is how I read the evidence.
What’s interesting is I have all of those figures to move some in and some out to create just about any battle of the period. I do like however more cavalry. Yes elephants are questionable but just pretty for the video 😂😂
Some top notch painting on display here, and the basing style really makes them pop. Love the look!
