    You're not alone; "Batman Forever" has always been one of my personal favorite Batman films, too. In fact, it's the first Bat-flick I saw when I was a kid, it's what introduced me to the Dark Knight, and it's always held a special place in my heart.
    I've been meaning to get a hold of this comic for a while now.

    People have been claiming for years that Schumaher's original cut was actually REALLY good, and had a similar tone to the Burton movies, but the studio edited the movie to make it more family friendly...yes, Warner has been screwing with DC movies for decades.

    • @filmsensuch2188
      @filmsensuch2188 5 років тому +3

      Well that’s bullshit because they say the same about the Snyder films. We have to learn to accept that Snyder’s or Schumacher’s cuts are equally as bad as Steel or Batman & Robin. Warner Bros has no interest in screwing over a cash cow property.... except that when they get money hungry for more Bat-money, they hire the laziest, most awful person for the job. That keeps happening alright.
      But is there a good Batman Forever cut out there?
      Nope! And that’s answered for you when you see the first send and there are neon lights spinning in circles around all the characters. It’s a campy cheesy mess and no editor or producer had as much say in those gaudy lights as the director did in shots of Bat-asscheeks, Bat-crotches or hologram technology in a movie that’s a sequel to Batman Returns

    • @GeekSomePlays
      @GeekSomePlays 5 років тому +5

      Actually the shooting script is different and longer than the actual released movie. Hell, even the preview cut was different. Actors and producers have come out saying that WB messed with the film, to make it more TOY ETIC. The comic is using scenes that were not in the final cut. The needle with the riddler, the opening in the comic is exactly how the preview cut was, starting Arkham, then Wayne enterprises etc.
      You can find the shooting script online and their is also a fan made edit of the preview cut, as the scenes were released as "deleted Scenes".

      I love this film but if you dont like the theatrical release you wont like the other version either, its the same film just slightly added scenes, I always seen it with the great scene of Bruce entering his darkness to confront the bat since thats how it was released on dvd and how most versions now will show, imo thats the best version the other one with extra scenes put in by fans doesnt flow as good. anyway this film isnt that friendly family, it goes into deep themes for a comic boook movie

I think is a reference about how the Nygma Box is making them feel high, how the Box opened those Doors of perception.

    Thank you for being one of the few to discuss Forever positively. The comic restores much of the film's original tone and sequencing which was brutally ruined by the studio at the very last minute. However, the Peter David novelization goes much further than the comic and is arguably the best version of the film's story. I'm glad you mentioned the video game which had much more content buried in it and a game I played to death on the Genesis as a kid. The film was one of my childhood favorites and I still think it has a great rendition of the internal conflict of Batman within it despite the studio meddling. Hopefully one day we will get a proper modern HD scan and restoration of the original edit with the major subplot about Bruce's internal trauma that was the entire main point of the film. The current Blu-ray is subpar and the the 2.0 surround audio mix from the Laserdisc is arguably stronger than the 5.1.

    • @TimBurVlogs

      Oh man! The David novelization was so great! Shame the movie was nothing like it.

    • @DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader
      @DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader 5 років тому +1

      I think the comic reflects what the film would have been had the studio not intervened at the last minute, and the novelization is a far more intricate telling on a higher plane. All of these are more in line with the proceeding Burtonverse which this film was originally written to be a part of.

    You know what brother, I might be getting older, I am 26, but I always just felt the 4 Batman movies had so much more fun practical details than ANY superhero movie released within the past 10 years!
    I look at films like Civil war which seems to me to be a GCI cluster in front of an empty airport, I always just felt even though some of the effects in these movies were pretty cheap they just seemed so much more well done and more realistic.

    • @ScorePN
      @ScorePN  5 років тому +1

      That's the beauty about practical effects, to me I always got a sense of wonder as to what lies ahead in a scene with practical effects and little to no cgi. But with cgi? green screens? You know it's all fake, you can't really wonder what's beyond those locations or creatures (depending on what the movie's about) because you know they're just in a bigass studio with green screen walls and in reality that location is very..empty :/

    The Answer to your Jim Morrison question:
    It's not so much "a joke" as it is a reference.
    Jim Morrison was a drug user, liked to get high, "expand his mind", obsessed with symbolism and duality other psychological issues and psychedelic themes.
    AND he was played by Val Kilmer in the movie "The Doors". And Val Kilmer is also Batman.
    So just sort of a multi level reference about getting high, expanding your mind, and the lead actor.

    I always enjoyed Batman Forever. The comic book, for the most part, features the original running order of events, how the movie was intended to play. Some things, like the villains taking hits on the box, or Two-faced wearing a spotlight helmet, was taken from the script but never filmed to my knowledge. I would love to see a Director's Cut of the film that restores the running order of scenes, as well as adding extra scenes such as the really cool giant bat during the finale. Wishful thinking? Yes, I know.

      P.S. She is my first film actress crush.

    They cut way too much good content from this movie. That said, I appreciate the theatrical cut for what it is. Wish they would have released an extended cut (director’s cut) when the 2005 dvd boxed set came out. That said I’m grateful they at least bothered to include the deleted scenes on the home video rereleases

    I think most comic book adaptations are based off the scripts and stills provided by the movie studios, that’s why there are differences in how some scenes unfold, if not I don’t think they’d make the publication dates.

    Interesting differences. There is an issue with the movie timeline you present though. The bat signal that Bruce sees while meeting Nigma is not a false alarm (that occurs much later in the film). The scene that follows him seeing the bat signal at that point leads him to his office and the tube scene, shooting him to the bat cave. Batman then heads to the bank robbery where he slow-motion floats down to meet Dr. Chase for the first time.

    Batman Forever is about obsession. All the main characters are obsessed with something. Bruce Wayne is obsessed with being Batman, Robin is obsessed with killing Two-Face, Riddler is obsessed with Bruce Wayne and Chase Meridian is obsessed with Batman. Everyone is obsessed with something, and they struggle with it in their own way.

    • @thenoirknight5729

      And I guess the theme is "Letting go of obsession." or "To let go of your obsession."
      • Dick stops his revenge quest on Two-Face and says how he'd rather see him in jail.
      • Bruce has now chosen to be *both* Batman and Bruce Wayne instead of feeling like he has to be. He also has no more guilt for feeling like he's the reason his parents are dead.
      • Chase let go of her obsession with Batman and instead fell in love with Bruce Wayne.

    The scene of Riddler using a syringe really did happen, but I've never found a video of it. I have a batman forever movie magazine from the time that showed a bunch of stills from the movie that never made it to the big screen. There's a picture almost exactly like the comic one with Jim Carrey holding the syringe by Kidman's head. I was really hoping it would be on the batman forever special edition DVD, but it's not there. I was happy to finally see the ark ham prison escape from the beginning though.

    Certainly, the set designs, the dark atmosphere and Elfman were missed in this movie so I was hoping for a true sequel to Batman Returns, Happy Meals be damned. That being said it's interesting to see the plot and each scene hold up so well. I'd even say the plot makes more sense than the Tim Burton movies that can come across like a random sequence of gag reels with the villains.
