Once again I want to say one of my encore azaleas was in horrible shape but Jim and Steph inspired me to move it. It hasn’t flowered in two years. Shortly after the move I can no longer see the leaves it has flowered so much. It’s still going. It just blows my mind the resilience of plants. I really thought it was dying. The leaves got so small and it had barely any left. Turns out it wasn’t the right spot for it. Now it’s super happy and looks so amazing.
This is amazing. I’m glad.
that is super awesome!
❤hello 🙏 Mr Jim putnam and Stephany. Hello 👋 gardeners, friends. Of course, I always watch Mr. putnam project. Thank you 🙏
Just ordered the t-shirt "Gardening is not a race its a journey". Can't wait!!
Thank you so much!
Thanks to a daughter-in-law who dug it up along her gravel road I have a red buckeye! It gets prettier every year!
I’m loving these “garden with me / odd jobs” videos. So much to gain as we follow along.
I’m in zone 6b/7a STL MO.
The whole weekend will be in the landscape: bare root plants, some perrenials and annual baskets, weeding, mulch, and and and! So very excited!
Love that y’all’s phrase ‘treating plants as chess pieces.’ I feel the same way. I also believe that being so apprehensive about poisonous plants can be bad. I recently learned that my bougainvillea is edible which is pretty cool.
It makes my day when you post a video, motivation for me to work on my garden!
I need some can't seems to get going
We have Red Buckeye in our woods, love them, they are so beautiful.
Hi Jim. I recently created a new bed in my garden & I discovered Japanese flag grass with Hinoki Cypress Verdon that stays chartreuse. I’m a person that love movement with bright yellow as well in my garden so these pop of colors really shows off. I’ve also invested in some few Japanese maples Acer Palmatum.. Sango Kaku, summer gold, first ghost, dragon tears, Jubilee & geisha gone wild to grow in containers. It makes me so happy to look at them daily!
Anyone else ever crack up when people say fuzzy deutzia. It’s such a funny name lol love it. Really pretty plant.
Love seeing sweet Holly. Old dogs are wonderful companions.
Jim,
Holly's not trying to get on camera. She's just trying to go where she can be near her Daddy. 🐾❤🐾😊
Oops. 2 of those south gate rhododendrons and a Camelia just fell into my shopping cart. Arriving by next weekend...
They can be so aggressive!
Yay, another video ❤.
Thanks, Jim and Stephanie .
Thanks for showing the pruning on the root-bound plant. I've been using a pruning saw when I get one like that, but wasn't sure if I was doing too much or not enough or anything. Looks like I'm doing it just fine. 👍
Today I divided an enormous old clump of hosta that had been planted some time ago by the previous owner of the property. I ended up with 5 large divisions. Two ended up in containers while the other 3 were at the original location with 24” offsets on either side. The hope is to create a mass at the base of our showpiece tree form climbing hydrangea.
LOVE Hostas, they are so pretty and really make a showpiece when done right 😊
One terrestrial Orchid I find surviving is the Crane Fly (Tipularia discolor?). It's an unassuming late summer flower and it's foliage is active during the cool seasons when people aren't spraying herbicide. Gotta admire a native that manages to avoid destruction by being plain! Got a good wind last night north of Atlanta, the catkins have begun to drop. Better to blow those damp, ah-choo 🤧
Ah, spring in the SE 🌺
I've been budgeting for new garden tools, and I'd love to see a video on how to choose good tools, best brands that last, etc. Or even address in a Q&A. Love your channel. Have been a subscriber for a long time. Keep up the great work.
Well, he's definitely got his favorite shovel, lol.
Your garden is always evolving and looks so beautiful 😊😊.. I love your colored lights flashing in your screened in room around the ceiling..Thanks for sharing 😊😊
I've had luck using zip ties to repair a split limb on woody plants and trees. The plant will heal itself along the split and you can eventually cut off the ties so it doesn't girdle.
Hi Jim . Your garden looks so pretty with these amazing trees and shrubs and prennials . Have a great day . 🌻
Jim,
Need a tee that says, "It's not hoarding if it's plants!" 😉😁
I wish you’d come up with a line of TShirts for women. Maybe with a v neck and less boxy.🙏
Yes! V-neck for sure!!
I'll spread the word
A blouce would be even better ❤
I am in Eastern North Carolina. My dwarf Yaupon Holly that I planted a few years ago is flowering so profusely that it looks almost white!
I noticed one like that yesterday! It's been a crazy spring for blooms
Almost ready to move a very slow leather leaf viburnum that did suffer some challenges (lawn guy nearly took it out completely two years ago), but this year it has finally flowered! It gets a reprieve for now. Irises are starting to bloom; the newly planted red twig dogwoods are leafing out as are the Little Lime hydrangeas. Enjoying all the new growth and blooms of spring - looking forward to next year when the new shrub bed has filled in. Zone 7-8, NC
Donna's Rainbow Blue Spruce looks amazing in our garden!
Thanks Jim and Stephany ! Happy Growing ! 🪻🌷💚🙃
My Clematis are blooming the best I have ever seen. 2 Varieties: double white (Belle De Woking), then the pink Dr. Rupple growing side by side with huge blooms right now. Plus another different variety that is blue/green spiky huge blooms on a garden gate. Deep blue clematis on my mailbox are also blooming, probably Jackmani. Miss Bateman has already bloomed in 3 places and resting It is the year of the clematis in my garden right now. Betty Corning, just getting started with her bell shaped blooms. 7b-8 MS
Being only about 45 minutes from Hammond, we hope to get over to the Research Station sometime soon. At 15 and 12, plants are not high on the boys’ list of things to do and see, though.
My ‘Sonic Bloom’ red weigela is about to break into bloom. It’s supposed to bloom intermittently through summer up to autumn. That ‘Southgate Breeze’ rhodie is beautiful!
I'd love to have one of those but, I'm zone 10. I don't think it would do well
The garden looks so beautiful😊it’s going to be a great summer, looking forward to watch it with all your changes👍
Please consider adding some V-neck tees to your offering.
I planted 3 sunshine ligustrums last year to create a little privacy from neighbor. Our german shepherd pup ran over top them visiting the dog next door by the fence. She destroyed all 3 in no time. I bought 3 more full beautiful ones during winter on clearance, dug the others out and replanted the new ones, they looked gorgeous for a few weeks till our shepherd destroyed them too
I feel your pain. I can't have indoor plants because my cat thinks they're her toys. She shreds them
A Tour of plants in pots would be lovely! Thanks
We will when put the fillers and spillers in . Can't wait!
Love these bopping around ‘Garden with me’ type videos… it’s super helpful for me to observe you technique in various tasks… always learn something 😊
Ah man, I wanted a tshirt but I live in Canada. I want to be a Conifer Collector too!!! Love the channel. Thank you for all you do. 😊
Just found out that Soil 3 also delivers to TN and AL. I’m in TN, so pretty excited about that!!!
Wow, thanks so much for sharing your time and talents with us, Jim & Steph. So helpful! Beginner gardener (3rd yr) w/ husband in Tx panhandle. When we’re not dancing, we’re gardening!
🌿🎶🤩
Is the back patio going to include a dance floor to accompany those cool back porch disco lights? The hard work is really paying off in your garden. It looks great.
Wow, it’s fun seeing your 3rd year plants growth! Gardening will definitely teach you patience. I am looking to see how the rhododendron in the backyard area next to the wooded area. I struggle with so much deer pressure, I don’t wish any damage, I am hoping that it will grow and I will try again planting some ❤
Love the new shovel and it is good to see you using it instead of ‘the ancient one’!
I bought this 18 months ago, it really is a work horse!
@@fattyslim96 , same here. Love it!
Your videos are really helpful. Thank you! You are the best !!
I would love a tour of your plants in pots! 🙂
Soon for sure-when we plant then with other plants, too. Thanks!
I love watching 😊
You have a great channel, Jim. Been looking for evergreen colorful non-flowering plants and shrubs for part shade in my front yard. Right outside the house. I realize that I'm asking for a lot here, but if you have some recommendations, I'm all ears. I'm about 40 mins from your spot.
Your garden is looking bountiful
I'm trying to plan my bulbs for next year. Colorblends has a minimum $60 order just to let people know if they don't already. That's a bit much for me in terms of budget and work I can do in the fall. I guess I could start digging bulb holes now.
LOVE watching your garden evolve. Foundation planting is on!!
👋🏻 Stephany ! 🪻🌷💚🙃
Hi!!
21:52 you want to talk evil roots, Mulberry trees are terrible. I dug one root out from a tree I took down, the root was larger than the trunk of the tree. And by dug out I mean killed a few chainsaw blades, strapped, and F150ed.
They NEVER Die!! I battle the roots too and have done everything. They never fail to come back 🙄
At 28:00 you show a group of plants on a cart that includes what I believe is a single spike of a pink salvia in bloom. Could you identify the variety and cultivar? TIA
I live in zone 8b, SW Washington and have an old forsythia that was pruned into a small tree form - many years ago by an unknown. It bloomed beautifully this year. How do I prune it, train it, convince it that it should be a many trunked shrub and not a small tree? Thanks for your videos - you make my day.
Like the odd job videos!
Those big yellow dirt bags are so expensive, however the "blended compost mix" at the bulk Mulch yards can be pretty horrible depending on where you go...I finally found a good blend by the scoop at a farm and feed store.
Where can I get a conifer collector T-shirt I like it 🌲🌲🌲
on the website-not below video. It's so awesome!
😊
Beautiful ❤ I should redo my mailbox bed. My neighbor came over and sprinkled stuff on the fire anthill that keeps coming back.😂 I keep planting things there, but those ants always come back! The bed gets shade all day until the scorching afternoon sun. Any suggestions on what to plant there?
Hi Stephanie...
Hi!!
Root Cake is about the only cake that I can make 😂
Love your garden! Quick question 🙋🏾♀️ why is my sunshine legustrum defoliating ?
Do you own the land behind you? 4:05 I noticed that several times during the video
Jim,
Did you give up on having a fountain in the garden? I haven't seen it lately in your videos.
Where would you recommend getting the bletilla striata from? I’m in NC as well and I’m afraid to take chance on online suppliers I haven’t used yet.
Is that an Encore Azalea Moonstruck right next to the snowbells camelia? I've been dying to get one ever since Jim showed it a year ago!!!
Yes
🌳🪴THE GARDEN IS AWESOME 🪴🌳
I want that shirt..
On the website-not below video. I love it too!
I have a red buckeye that is several years old. It’s not increased much in size. I planted it in the shade of an oak tree. I suppose it’s getting too much shade and possibly root competition. Should I try to move it?
Jim I’m in Zone10a and am just beginning to plant annual flower seed as well as tomato snd herb seed. Will this work for CA and be a summer crop?
I just put 3 sunshine ligustrums in the ground here in seattle(9a) and the small leaves are already browning. What did I do wrong? They are in full sun, ground was really wet though. 😢
Hi Jim. I brought Sunshine Ligustrum last year and it seems to be losing leaves. Balding for some reason. Is that normal?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I wish you’d identify plants around you and in the immediate background even when they’re not the topic at hand. Thanks.
💙👍🏻💙
Where do you get those fences ?
Jim Makes them himself
I just got a new variety of weigela. I was wondering if you are familiar with the midnight sun weigela, and can you give some information about it.
Thanks again.
Are annuals worthwhile if you're on a budget? Or is it better to invest in perennials first? I'm scared of having plants I'd love die away. 😞🥀
You can actually start both annuals and perennials from seed for far less money. Certainly starting native perennials from seed and planting them in the native soil is least expensive option.
Watch those clearance racks at the big box stores. I just found Proven Winner petunias that looked like they just came off the truck as well as purple verbena. Seeds are always going to be your most thrifty way of having annuals. Try zinnias. They are so easy to just sow right out in your garden bed.😊
Shop the clearance racks at Lowe's and Walmart..
I just picked up 2 hydrengea for $9.00 each!
I do all annuals from seed then collect seeds for next season
It's kind of unfortunate that all 3 of those trees bloom at the same time.
Why didnt u just butcher the other sunshine and put it there 😂. Seems like a impulse decision
I need garden motivation today!!!! It’s finally stopped raining I gotta finish weeding plant tone and mulch… my dahlia beds are a foot up already I gotta weed around them too … best suggestions to stake them ???!!! I got a ton of the dinnerplate big tall ones 🤍🤍🤍🤍
مسبرة موفقة🎍🎍🎍🎍💔💔💔👍🏻👍🏻🫱🏻🫲🏾🫱🏻🫲🏾⚘️⚘️
It’s just me but I have a problem with chartreuse plants, they look sickly to me, like they’re lacking iron. 🪻🌷💚🙃
I feel the same! Always wonder if they’re sick 😆
