i love this video, Romana 2 was my favourite companion, a very moving video, with some of the best clips, destiny of the daleks, city of death, shada, warriors gate, logopolis etc i'd say the song goes well especially with the doctors the death at the end of logopolis, and the rest could act as his memories of him and romana i guess, brilliant video. 5/5
This is one of the best edited music vids for ANY show I've seen on YT. I've watched it dozens of times and get jazzed by it every time. Nice pieces of story in this one! Well done!!!
Oh I had such crush on Lalla Ward. SO smart , strong, and sophisticated. Not like these terrible companions they have nowadays. Rose "remarkable", how? Romana could rewire computer equipment, Rose could maybe cry hysterically on it.
Just occurred to me that Baker's Dr. said he was around six or seven hundred. The doc hasn't seen Romana for 300 years. She's one of the few Time-Lords that cold still be around, cause, like Rose, she was off in an alternate universe. Times like these remind me how much of a nerd I can be... :P
Actually he does, if you look more closely. Waistcoats, shirts and ties(if he wears any, that is) change, also he does switch between a few different frock coats over the series. The scarf is really the only constant through seasons 16 and 17.
Technically, she's on the "assumed dead" list. According to the radio adventures, Romana had returned to this universe and had become Lady President of Gallifrey. Presumably, she still held this position during the Time War, and was killed (along with Leela, and K-9s Mk I and II) when the Doctor sacrificed Gallifrey.
@twitcher01 She was after - and Lalla Ward was the second Romana after Mary Tamm's first version in the "Key to Time Series." I think the order of the companions in T. Baker's era were Sarah Jane and Harry, then just Sarah Jane, Leela and K9, then K9 with Romana I & II, Adric, Nyssa and Tegan joining in the last couple stories of Baker's era.
@jadewarlock, IIRC from obscure interviews, Tamm left because she felt the character had nowhere else to go and the writers were writing her into a damsel in distress when Romana began as a much more independant foil to the Doctor. Fortunately, Ward brought (or was allowed to bring) back much of that and became the greatest companion, the Doctor's near-equal.
Lalla Ward is married to Richard Dawkins and reads parts of his book the God Delusion on CD. Lalla Ward gives an energy that works well with Tom Baker as they are both eccentric academics.
Mmmm, Romana Red-Head. I blame her for having a thing for coppertopped girls. Hope the new series can "bring her back" is some form or fashion, she was a great companion. Well done on the video editing too. Shiny!
In the first animated adventure SHADA. The 8th Doctor returns to Gallifray to see Romana (who is president of Gallifrey at the time) and brings her to Earth were they meet another time lord about the "Book Of Rassilon".
Romana was the second-best companion EVER. (If you have to ask who was the best, I will hit you.) Altough, personaly, I prefered Romana I. But still, ROMANA RULED! I refuse to believe she is dead. ROMANA LIVES, DAMMIT!!!! Anyway, mini rant over. Great video!
@jadewarlock Actually, Mary Tamm left the role because she thought Romana was turning too much into a damsel in distress, the reason she had originally rejected the role of Romana before they had convinced her that Romana would be different.
Thank you!!! They really need to bring her back but as a woman not as a sex change/regeneration thing like what they did with the master (not that I complain about the master it really is a interesting move they made)
Howyaduing Agreed, Romana must remain Romana not Roman, at least for now anyway, it would be too big a change when reintroducing a classic character like that. Regarding the gender switch I actually don't mind, provided that it's something that happens rarely or under specific circumstances like genetic predisposition or choice or external factors.
@XxCarlieCullenxX Nope, never did. I believe that originally Tamm's run as Romana the character was supposed to wear white in every story, and she did in a majority of her costumes. If I recall correctly, Lalla Ward has mentioned that the outfit she wore in "Creature for the Pit," the white one, was designed for Tamm, but Tamm left the show (again I think pregnancy, but may be wrong), and therefore the costume, already made, had to be altered for Lalla. She hated it.
@im903yearsold Oh, of course I LOVE Lalla Ward, she was brilliant as well. The first was just a tiny bit better. They're both BRILLIANT timeladies! (I'd like to think that Susan survived as well. Why would she desert her human family just so she could go and get killed in the time war? She had more sense than that.)
Romana did have a habit of adopting the looks of other people. Not that hard to give the actress the part without it actually being Sally Sparrow when you keep that in mind.
To me it isn't a question of if Romana comes back. Doctor Who is so nostalgic and self-contratulating (& rightly so) its extremely likely she will. What people should is think very carefully about who's going to play her and what role she's going to play on the show. Is she going to be a role model for young kids? How flirty will she be? Will she maybe be played by an actress of non-white origin? And most importantly, if she doesn't ground the show on Earth, will the BBC accept her?
I just learned two weird things about Lalla Ward: 1) She's married to atheist scientist Richard Dawkins, and 2) She's descended from George Plantagenet, the first Duke of Clarence, the one who was drowned in the malmsey butt in "Richard III". Also, could she be any cuter in that Madeline, French girl outfit?
I don't care what they say about Romana dying in the Time War. Bring her back! Bring her back! If they can bring back the Master, surely they can bring back Romana.
Believe me, I would love to be wrong about this - Romana coming back would be great (and so much more believable than the Doctor getting the hots for some chav-accented blonde with delusions of intelligence. But I do remember reading somewhere that the audio adventures are considered canon. Will they ignore that, at least so far as Romana is concerned? I certainly hope so; she and Leela were always my two favorites!
@LaraElSupergirl Lalla Ward aka The Honourable Lady Sarah Ward, daughter of Edward Ward, 7th Viscount Bangor, and his fourth wife Marjorie Alice Banks, is best known as the wife of evolutionary biologist and University of Oxford's Charles Simonyi Professor for Public Understanding of Science Richard Dawkins, and for playing the second Romana in Doctor Who from 1979-1981 - and for being a gorgeous beast of a woman.
Thank you for sharing this. I love Fan Vids. But it makes me wish I could watch the 'Classic Who' shows. Are they available anywhere other than in fan vids?
+Nidra Blades Dottir You can go to your local "Barnes & Noble" and just look in the DVD section where they have T.V. shows. I just bought two of the classic Tom Baker era DVD's myself. Can't wait to get more...especially with Tom and Lalla. Also check out BBC online or Amazon.
The present companions keep the Doctor in line. D'you think he'd've married queen Elizabeth with Rose/ Donna/ Martha hanging around? Anyway, could Jo Grant rewire computers? Um, no!
Looking at her, I kind of get why the Doctor became attracted to Rose; she reminded him of Romana II. I mean except for their noses, they really do resemble each other.
theory i had while watching this video...could it be remotely possible the doctor 9/10 fell for rose because she reminded them so much of romana II? somewhat in looks and slightly by personality?
The novels have no relevance to the show unless the production team references them in the program. We don't know if Romana came back and became pres of Galifrey. I've never read one of those novels that I liked anyway, they made Ace into a brooding wolverine-ish mercenary!
The ohe only one the Doctor ever actually ever had a life with.(not unless he decides to bat for the otherside with and hook up with the now immortal Captain Jack).
PS: before people DO start asking, the answer is, of course, Ace. But I'm sure you knew that anyway. What do you mean, there are better companions? YOU LIE! Erm, sorry 'bout all that. I'll shut up now.
Is there a thing that if you are a girl and you play a companion in Doctor who you will look gorgeous for eternity. Elizebeth Sladen (Sarah Jane), Lalla Ward (Romana II), Nicola Bryant (Peri Brown), Lousie Jameson (Leela).
@im903yearsold I feel uncertain when it comes to how I feel about Susan. She was kind of cool, but when it comes down to it she screamed even more than normal for Classic Who companions, and she was really whiney. But I think I still like her anyway for some reason...But she would have died in the Time War, I think.
i love this video, Romana 2 was my favourite companion, a very moving video, with some of the best clips, destiny of the daleks, city of death, shada, warriors gate, logopolis etc i'd say the song goes well especially with the doctors the death at the end of logopolis, and the rest could act as his memories of him and romana i guess, brilliant video. 5/5
Utterly amazing. The clips fitted together perfectly with the music - it was so bittersweet.
This is really well done! Upbeat, but touching, but just a little melancholy all at the same time. Excellent.
I love this vid, but particularly the first several seconds. :)
Aw, I grew nostalgic of this vid.
Great video great clips great song great job
Wow. Eleven years? And still amazing? Impressive!
15 now
Really enjoyed this. Very well done.
RTD did say that if its not been on screen in the tv series then it is not canon :)
thus romana could easily be brought back from E-space
This is one of the best edited music vids for ANY show I've seen on YT. I've watched it dozens of times and get jazzed by it every time. Nice pieces of story in this one! Well done!!!
Oh I had such crush on Lalla Ward. SO smart , strong, and sophisticated. Not like these terrible companions they have nowadays.
Rose "remarkable", how? Romana could rewire computer equipment, Rose could maybe cry hysterically on it.
Super cute! I loved it. Good song for them.
The fact about Mary Tamm being pregnant is actually not true--it was mainly because of her dissatisfaction with the role.
great video. reminds me why i love her so much!
*is ded*
Wonderful choice of song :D (and the beginning with Nine is brilliant!)
this is one of my all time fav vids!
I love this video, I wish the opening had really happened/would happen. It would be awesome :D
I really hope Romana is still alive, her second incarnation was the best Companion ever.
I would love to see Romana again.
I just found this relic
i have this video on my ipod now. also, it's one of my new favourite songs.
Actually he does, if you look more closely. Waistcoats, shirts and ties(if he wears any, that is) change, also he does switch between a few different frock coats over the series. The scarf is really the only constant through seasons 16 and 17.

hahaha never thought of someone other than myself knowing about both The Ark and Doctor Who :P
Which book, if you don't mind my asking?
In War Games, he was given an option on his appearance, but he was delaying and the Time Lords forced his regeneration.
@twitcher01 She was after - and Lalla Ward was the second Romana after Mary Tamm's first version in the "Key to Time Series."

brilliant. If you go into divx settings you can tun off the watermark in the corner.
Mmmm, Romana Red-Head. I blame her for having a thing for coppertopped girls. Hope the new series can "bring her back" is some form or fashion, she was a great companion.
Well done on the video editing too. Shiny!
I met Lalla Ward the other day. She's very nice and looks great.
I've never thought of that.
In the first animated adventure SHADA.
The 8th Doctor returns to Gallifray to see Romana (who is president of Gallifrey at the time) and brings her to Earth were they meet another time lord about the "Book Of Rassilon".
In a story written by RTD in one of the Doctor Who Annuals Romana is the President of the Time Lords during the Time War

It's been a while since anyone commented on this video, I wonder how people feel now in the light of the events of "The Day of the Doctor".
If they DON'T bring Romana back now, I will just cry. I swear to god, her and the Doctor had one of the best relationships. We NEED her back!
True that mate.
Thank you!!! They really need to bring her back but as a woman not as a sex change/regeneration thing like what they did with the master (not that I complain about the master it really is a interesting move they made)

Happy Birthday Lalla Ward
Romana 2 is my second favourite companion ever, after ace

Because to be seen wearing the same outfit on two different planets would be inexclusable for a Time Lady. :)
at the begining was he talking about Romana? It was great!!!!!!!!!
@im903yearsold Oh, of course I LOVE Lalla Ward, she was brilliant as well. The first was just a tiny bit better. They're both BRILLIANT timeladies! (I'd like to think that Susan survived as well. Lalla Ward was and is flippin ACE!
Well, actually Sophie Aldred was Ace, and Lalla Ward was Romana, but you know what I mean.
I don't care what they say about Romana dying in the Time War. Bring her back! Bring her back! If they can bring back the Master, surely they can bring back Romana.
R.I.P. Mary
@elliotpaige
I agree, i read the adaption something Avalon. Romana and the story totally ignored the DW universe.
Theory is Time Lords can choose their appearences. She was just trying appearences like a typical woman trying clothes or shoes.
This is an awesome compilation to an awesome song. Well done!
so... which one is going to kick the bucket first? Tom or Lalla?
fantastic idea, not sure how they'd justify it tho ;)
NO! She's only 140, she has centuries to live :(
Two timelords are always better than one. Do you remember who she played before she played Romana's regeneration?
Believe me, I would love to be wrong about this - Romana coming back would be great (and so much more believable than the Doctor getting the hots for some chav-accented blonde with delusions of intelligence. No problem.
@nathanielselby
I hear rose had no gag reflex, that's a skill, right?

*sniff* I miss Fred... I...mean... Romana...
Thank you for sharing this. I love Fan Vids. But it makes me wish I could watch the 'Classic Who' shows. Are they available anywhere other than in fan vids?
Some are on Netflix
OK Thanks
+Nidra Blades Dottir You can go to your local "Barnes & Noble" and just look in the DVD section where they have T.V. shows. I just bought two of the classic Tom Baker era DVD's myself. Can't wait to get more...especially with Tom and Lalla. Also check out BBC online or Amazon.
You can rent or buy from Amazon. There's a site called Daily Motion that has episodes from fans.
The present companions keep the Doctor in line. D'you think he'd've married queen Elizabeth with Rose/ Donna/ Martha hanging around?
Anyway, could Jo Grant rewire computers? Um, no!
Probably something more like Romana 3, or 4 :)
Romana is not dead she didnt stay with the time lords she stayed on this planet called Exo-Space. So they can bring her back .
id like to see rose open a chinese puzzle box that fast!
Looking at her, I kind of get why the Doctor became attracted to Rose; she reminded him of Romana II. I mean except for their noses, they really do resemble each other.
i'd be shocked if she stayed there when her people were being wiped out by the daleks, she's just not the sort.
still, i hope your right.
Which episode was the clip with Tom Baker all sweaty-like?
theory i had while watching this video...could it be remotely possible the doctor 9/10 fell for rose because she reminded them so much of romana II? somewhat in looks and slightly by personality?
The novels have no relevance to the show unless the production team references them in the program. We don't know if Romana came back and became pres of Galifrey. I've never read one of those novels that I liked anyway, they made Ace into a brooding wolverine-ish mercenary!
Two words: Juliet Landau.
SueDonym amen 🙏🏼
The ohe only one the Doctor ever actually ever had a life with.(not unless he decides to bat for the otherside with and hook up with the now immortal Captain Jack).
Well........they were wrong, because both of them are still alive! (12/10/11)
Destiny of the Daleks, I really wish they had shown the regeneration. it sort of screwed up connon 'cos Romana changed so many times.
she was in espace without a tardis! unless they came to get her she wouln't have been on galifrey
PS: before people DO start asking, the answer is, of course, Ace. But I'm sure you knew that anyway. What do you mean, there are better companions? YOU LIE! Erm, sorry 'bout all that. I'll shut up now.
dont forget susan (and maybe ace).

I know that this is concerned with Romana II but the song seems quite poignant now that Mary Tamm has died at only 62.
Which clip?
romana is still alive well u neva find out if she was dead and if she came bk it wud have 2 b Romana III cuz Lalla ward wud b 2 old now i think
Not only that but Mary Tamm was dissatisfied with her role on the series so it was a combination of factors really.
eventually marrying
What episode is it with romana in the grey tunic-y thing?
kind of late to tell you by this point but it's Nightmare of Eden
Destiny Of The Daleks she copyied the forth doctors outfit because it was her first time the actress was playing Romana.
She was delightful but I prefered Mary Tamm in the role. They should have introduced Lalla as a new character.
at 2:07 it looks like there gonna get married cos shes wearing white and she got her arm linked
Except for the Doctor, who never really got the hang of regenerating. He sucks at it.
Why does she change clothes every epsiode,b ut the DR never does?
OK, so not exactly a red-head. But a sharp looking lady nontheless.
@LaraElSupergirl Er, actually it was about as funny as an open grave....
