The Death card is from the painting "The Death of the Buddha". Death and transformation, Death as acceptance of the end of one life and moving on to the next, is how I'd read it. Thank you for the comparison, I'd prefer the first but it's out of print. What a pity I didn't discover it earlier!
Great walk through thank you!! I see the death card (new deck) as the dark mass, being like a rock or something, that he is lying on, draped over as he passes on. The dark mass looks too big and out of proportion to be his body/legs. I see the yellow running down the right of the rock, as implying his drapey clothing and body are lying there.

I saw that oracle and really contemplated getting it. I knew Melissa wad coming out with an oracle at some point so I passed on that one. I have to say that overall, I think I prefer the original deck. I do prefer the backs on the new edition. I will reserve final judgment when I get my deck! I don’t know when I’ll get mine...we haven’t had any mail for a week because of being in the Texas deep freeze 🥶. Thank you for putting your video up so fast! I’m chomping at the bit!

It really is beautiful! The 2nd edition Death card is very symbolic like how much we don't understand it, but spiritually have this innate feeling that there is something beyond it. This being depicted as the vague figure emanating the starry lights floating to the beyond. I just love this deck! ❤️ Hope you enjoy it!!
I like some of the new cards, but I am pretty happy with my first edition. The extra cards though… especially Ancestors and Spirit. Great comparison 🙏🏻😊
I was very excited to see that there was a second edition of this deck still for sale, but after watching your video I can see why it hasn’t sold out even a year after release. I was eagerly on my way to buy this deck, but some of the card replacements are so inferior that it has stopped me in my tracks. I can handle some of the changes, but the changes to the magician, wheel of fortune, justice, death, and 5 of wands cards are so bad that I’m not longer interested. The most egregious for me is the magician - it looks like a 1st grade finger painting of Jesus and I am so turned off by it - and the Justice card - what was she thinking replacing such a perfect card? It’s such a shame. I can even handle the missing dreamer card, easily the coolest card of the entire deck, as a first edition treat for backers and early customers, but the rest? Yikes. I’m honestly so disappointed and I wish there were a way to buy the old cards as a bundle. Until that day comes, I’ll have to pass on what could have been a favorite deck. Thank you for this video, you saved me $60!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I'm not sure about the reasoning behind the changes other than I thought the creator said she felt that they gave the deck a clearer voice. I also think she mentioned that they were necessary to differentiate this edition from the 1st. I have long since rehomed my 2nd edition and can understand your feelings. I did really like the extra cards though. There are still copies of the 1st edition out there if you keep an eye on selling sites though, for me, I feel that having the 2nd edition is still better than none at all. Based on this walkthrough, I emphatically prefer the 1st edition, even though the unchanged images are slightly lightened and clarified in the 2nd Edition. The only cards that I prefer in the 2nd over the 1st is the color brightening on the Emperor, and the design of the Ace of Pentacles. The new backs are fine, though I like the original backs better. For the rest, I think the changed cards are generally inferior to the originals. IMHO, the single worst substitution is the 8Swords. 1st edition 8Swords is amazingly creepy, very powerful and so much more intriguing than the card it replaced. I see the original 8Swords as a scathingly direct confrontation with the cultural lie that anatomy is destiny [note the baby nursing in her arms, the immense and dark female anatomy arching behind her, the windblown curtains blinding her vision, and the imp on the floor to her right]. The card depicts the exceptional struggle it can take to identify one’s mental entrapment and then take whatever action might be needed to improve matters. Its 2nd edition replacement is softer, fuzzier, less stark, blander. That lady is just hanging out, moping mildly in the park, completely able to see what's around her and not impeded in her movement by anyone or anything except herself. As an aside: I think the 9Wands is a fairly traditional rendering of the martyrdom of St Sebastian. He's not going to walk away from his last stand, he’s already dead on his feet, in hopes of going to heaven. More of an ancient version of the 10Swords, actually, but it can work for the 9 too.

I whole-heartedly agree about the 8 of Swords and the way you put it really intrigued me further into contemplating the difficulty of confronting one's own shadow and self-imposed limitations. I knew that there was something familiar about the 9 of Wands. No arrows though...😉 I deeply love this deck for the rich symbolism and meaning hidden behind the veil of Odilon's surrealist art. ❤️

At first I didn't notice them either, making me go "what...?" but seek and ye shall find... ;)

Thanks for asking! I have to say, if I had to choose, I would stick with the 1st edition. I love both backs, but there's a mystery to that prayer rug in that deep rust color that I enjoy. I also prefer *most* of the original images and color saturation. But, those who didn't get it will NOT be disappointed in the 2nd edition. There is so much to love about it. The 7&8 of pentacles are more traditional while the extra cards feel more usable and there are definitions for them in the new guidebook. I hope you enjoy your deck. ❤️❤️❤️
