    In the thousands of survival/prepping videos I've watched over the past decade, I have never seen anyone actually do a trek home, especially 40 miles! Everyone talks about BoB's and get home bags, etc, but no one ever actually goes out there and gets home. Well done!

      Whole lotta talk and no actual testing or challenges...
      Man could have a channel just doing that!!!🎉
      People are lazy and just like cameras and attention!!😂

    Greetings from Rio Rancho, New Mexico, United States, not quite the end of the world, but we can see it from here. Good on you! Testing the hypothesis. Plenty of 60lb bags that the carrier wouldn't make it 10 miles on UA-cam. Way to put your money where your mouth is. I salute you.

    10 out of 10 for putting your money where your mouth is so to speak. I've done this a couple of times. One improvement I'd suggest is get some of the Philips or AtoZ smaller map books. Haven't been able to find them new recently but you can still get them second hand. You might have to get the odd page printed out online for areas that have changed A lot recently but it's worth it. They have most of the footpaths marked on them. You might be able to cut miles off your journey and dirt/grass paths are easier on the knees and ankles than concrete after a time, not to mention grid down you might have to avoid road blocks and the like.

    Good to see you in Hereford. Your in my home city there. You went from one side above the Wye to the North side and along the Roman road straight passed the regiment. My father was in the regiment for 22 years. I don't blame you for not filming. Good going on the hard surfaces. It takes its toll. Well, looks like you're going to hit your target. Well done. Mark

    Anymore during power outages convenience store's, gas stations, etc. Automatically lock down as their registers and debit machine's won't function with no electricity. Might be a good idea to carry the map and a bottle of water with you in your day pack.

    • @Flash1857
      @Flash1857 Рік тому

      Yea a map, water in the pack is a good idea. Good to see there is water available, need a good water filter. Would also plan a cache near the 1/2 way point. ( probably a few along alternate routes)

    Great upload mate I think this is the first UK upload of such a scenario simulation, there are a few from the USA including even one where the guy survives on just what he has in his pockets, he's based it on him having been dragged out of his truck on the road and left with just the clothes on his back (that's Survival Dispatch btw). Anyway less than 10 minutes in I have subscribed to your channel already! I want to see your other content too. I had been carrying a smaller 24 hr get home bag including poncho, survival bag (to use as groundsheet), mylar bivvy bag with hand warmers, canteen cup, fire dragon gel & twig burner, water filter, food and other bits and bobs but stopped taking it to work every day about a year ago. However I think I need to overhaul it and start carrying it again. It's about half the size of your get home/bug out bag, it's a rocket pocket from a Dutch Army bergen (Lowe Alpine Sting I think).

    Just curious if you would feel safer carrying a walking stick or trekking pole or something to use as an improvised defensive weapon in an actual situation…

    • @TheBugOutShop
      @TheBugOutShop  Рік тому +3

      Trekking poles are a great idea and not only fend off foes but a good walking aid.

      Always get a nice spear when ya get to the woods! I do...
      First thing I do is start looking for a good straight stick, taller than me. Gotta have a knife of course, give the spear a good sharpening and away we go!! Just find one on the way Is acceptable to if ya crunched for time!🎉

      Yes it’s the last thing you want to happen but if you come across a gang of blokes maybe armed and they want what you have what are you going to do. If you are armed like John Rambo you could mow them all down, if you are a chuck norris fan you could drop a few flying elbows and round house kicks to the face and knock them all out in 3 moves. Or if you are as fast as Usain Bolt you could speed away like speedy Gonzales and leave them in a pile of dust. In reality you dont want to get injured or worse and want to avoid confrontation and is your BugOut/ get home bag worth potentially dying for? I don’t think so.

      I'm a bit confused - didn't you put most of your supplies in your pockets before you set out anyway? Just so that if you got into a confrontation it would make sense to give up your bag?? That's what I thought I saw. In which case it makes total sense to give up your bag and bottle of water and get on your way. Your main priority is to get home, not prove you're Mr Universe

    My first time camping at the bugout will a few neighbours and mates all sat around the fire and i jumped on a branch of deadfall and snapped my ankle....
    Leigh still had his medical ankle boot which he kindly fetched and let me take it home...
    Talk about waking a mile in another man's shoes 😆
