Excellent simple little stool, another option would be to make a kneeling pad insert to drop into that void 👍

Great video as usual Tomasz. On another note have you seen the new Evolution table saw? You recently said they were going to send you some stuff and they have just brought out a huge improvement on the Rage5, slightly smaller but with a rack and pinion fence and industry standard mitre slots (finally) so that third party mitre gauges can be used!! It is the R255. Get them to send you one ASAP 😄 There are already a couple of reviews of it on YT. I think you'll replace your Rage5 for sure.

Thanks. Yes seen it. I knew about it for quite some time. They are putting a package for me now with the cordless range. Should have it within 3 weeks I think. But they don't have the new table saw in Poland yet. As soon as it arrives to Poland I think they will send me a sample. But when I don't know.

Thomas I have been subscribed for quite a while and always enjoy your videos. I am worried that your pocket holes attaching the legs to the top have very little wood left around the screws where they go into the top because I'd your 15 degree angle. Hopefully, the apron under the top adds sufficient strength for this not to be a problem.

Had exactly same worries that's why it was a bit of an experiment for me as I mentioned in the video. However I can report its not an issue at all. I wouldn't recommend thinner material than 2cm for this tho. I was using this stool all week in my garden when I was trying to out together my greenhouse. So I was standing on it, jumping on and off. And nothing happened to it. I would say the pocket holes were just to hold everything together as the glue dries. And it's the glue that's mainly holding everything together. If it breaks and falls apart you can be assured I will report on it👍

Some little blocks glued into the inside corners/edges would make it even stronger 👍

@@barry.w.christie so far not had any issues with strength and I'm not the lightest that's for sure 😅

Surely it's good practice with pocket hole joinery to have the screw going from the outside to the inside, not like you did them from the inside to the outside, as the meat of the timber is diminishing, unfortunately doing them the 'right' way makes the pocket holes very visible on the outside and they need chamfered plugs or whatever to fill them in, IMHO the biggest reason why pocket holes are not more widely used, or did I miss something ?

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  5 місяців тому +1

That's correct the orientation is not the best in two ways. First as you mentioned it should be positioned so the screw goes into the thicker part of the board. Secondly it should be placed in a way that's against the forces acting on a piece of wood not along them. And that's why I did say in my video that this is a bit of an experiment. In the end what is holding everything together are not the screws but the wood glue. Screws where just acting as a clamp more that anything else. Hope this makes it clear. And so far there is no issues with it. I was using this stool extensively over the last week and it's perfectly strong.

00:10 Oh.. no.. no.. no.. To give the truth its due: *everybody* needs a step for all kinds of things.
08:51 Hm.. yeah. That stool is strong enough. But it seems to be a little too small in width - on shaky grounds (like in the garden on natural soil) you could get some issues keeping your balance, Thomasz.

It's narrow for a purpose, to fit the space between my raised beds in the garden. However I've been jumping up and down on it all week as I was putting my greenhouse together and it was OK. But wide would be better for that

This is great Tomasz and another very useful item to put together, possibly with some slight width modification to make it comfy for my FA… 😂
Might even have SWMBO make me a multi purpose cushion for it too - a seat pad for a comfy bum doubling as a kneeling pad the other way up… 🤔
Great idea to make handles to and a very simple approach to doing so, nice!
I am trying to get to grips with pocket holes so this could be the ideal first project to give my, so far, redundant PH jig its first proper job (although it is not as fancy as yours!)… 🤪

@@Venomator. exactly, this is a good starting point and you can adjust it to your needs 👍 if you want to make it with pocket holes make sure to use stock that's at least 2cm thick so the screws in the pocket holes in the angled pieces will have something to grab onto.

@@CasualDIY Thanks Tomasz - I think I need a bit of practice with the PH jig first, and may even make a jig housing for it, I’ve seen a few examples… 👍🏻

    • @CasualDIY

In my case its narrow for a purpose, so it fits between my raised beds in the garden. But If someone wanted to build one I would suggest making it wider. However saying that, I was jumping on and off it all week when putting my greenhouse ( or trying too ;) together and it was fine. I'm heavy enough so the legs always dropped an inch into the soil ;D so it was all steady as a rock.
