I am making my first cello in my workshop and find your video classroom has so much information, thankyou. I am taking many notes. I have a lot to learn..
Thanks for another precise and informative vid. Recently I made a bass viola da gamba (to play it, not to become a “luthier”) and it sounded nice but nasal with a subdued third string. I walked the sound post to ANY position around the normal zone. Subtle frequency changes but same problem. I got sick of it. Then I just had this spontaneous dream idea to move the sound post symmetrically to the other side, in a mirror position but left from the bass bar. Suddenly everything resonated! The the bass strings became deeper, the chanterelle and the thin strings acquired this crystal quality! Everything communicated in an interconnected resonance! I never moved the sound post away from there, a cm out from the bass bar on the other side.
Hello violin Dr. edger First I wanna thank you very much about all this valuable information you gave and hundreds of years experience I saw all your videos I’m proud of you and by the way this is very little from what you deserve My name is Zach I have an old violin I wanted to show it to you if I can talk to you personally because it’s needs repair thank you again
Great! Thank you very much for your sharing! By the way, can you advise how to find a good materials of sound post, any brand name for it? How can we know whether the quality is fit to our violins? Someone say some violins need softer sound post and vice versa. Moreover, I see some brands for violin bridges. But seldom see people talking about the brand of sound post.
Sir. I think i follwed a suggestion of yours i placed a 4/4 bass bridge on a 3/4 bass it changed whole color of sound way deeper thanku. Wider feet made a diff. It just was a good learning experiment
